Tips for using the rattler: 1) leave it in the woods. 2) use a sharpshot bow.

I don't switch modifications, I just carry two bows. One full tear and one full damage. It's so sweet!

One thing about the Ropecaster to note is that Tear does NOT affect the tiedown time or efficiency. It simply affects how much Tear damage it does to the part that you attach the rope to when the rope breaks. Thus it might actually be more efficient to focus on Handling, so if you want to do more tear to a specific part, just pump a 2nd rope on to that part. This will also of course be more effective at immobilizing the enemy vs one rope with Tear mods.

War bow: All freeze. Sharpshoot: Handling. Normal bow: Two tear, and a split handling and damage. Rope cast thing: Handling.

Sharpshot Bow is already so powerful that I focus on handling so I can get my shots off faster.

The Tripcaster is amazing and it applies whatever effects (shock, freeze, etc.) faster than the Sling. You can easily drop the trap directly on the enemy if you are fast enough, which is where handling would come in handy.

I'm 20 hours into this game and I wish I'd really taken more notice of this modifying system rather than just throw any mod on any weapon as quick as possible. Next 20 hours should be great

I bought two Shadow Hunter Bows like you did with the Sharpshooter Bow. One with damage mods and the second with fire mods.

shadow Sharpshot focus on tear then handling, shadow hunter focus on damage then handling. The default handling on the hunter bow outweighs the sharp-shot making it the preferred choice for damage, also the cost of resources and the frequency of interrupts add to it being the choice of damage bows.

for that shadow hunter bow: full fire is insane vs highHP enemys, cuz the dot-ticks stack and you can spam shots on closer range without fully chargin each shot. I reccomend sporting a second one late,r full dmg mods, for all those humans and other grps of lowHP foes. imho the sharpshooter on damage just excells as opener or maybe stealth sniping highHP humans. normal humans die 1-2 bodyshots with hunters bow , with way more forgiving time per shot. I went with my first sharpshooters full tear+, and bought a second later on, modded with spare blue/purple damage+ (too lazy switching mods constantly) For the wire traps.. i got it equipped like 95% of time, alongside with the hunters bow. The exploding wires have the highest base damage of all weapons, which nets even crazier damage+ per mod. atm my expl.wires deal 763 dmg. sure, you need 2 shots per wire, but you can prepare the area and/or use them midfight while dodging around. tried to substitute them with that explosive sling.. noticable lower damage even on stickybombs (around 450-500 dmg with the same mods), and it burned through my ammo/mats isanely quick. Did anyone got some experience with the warbow's corruption arrows? tested them a bit myself, but im still unsure how they work in detail and vs which foes they may shine...

I modded my Shadow Hunter Bow with max Handling, it's over 200 and basically draws in .1 seconds. It's not very powerful, but it lets me rain arrows, which is pretty important when I'm running and ducking between enemies. A single broadhead to the face will usually kill someone, but a trio will almost always kill them, I just have to remember to use slowtime to aim (which I keep forgetting to do) I have two Shadow Sharpshot bows, one with three +43% damage and one with three +40-43% tear. I can oneshot most humans without a headshot, or just load up two arrows and it'll kill anyone not a named boss. Yea it takes a while to draw back, but I use the Heavy Stealth armor with two +20% stealth mods, and they pretty much can't see me without literally tripping over me. The Tear mod one I use to open the fight against Thunderjaws, ripping the radar and weapons off the back, the tail, and maybe the jaw cannons too, though the Tearblaster is better for the jaw cannons. I loaded my Tripcaster with my 2nd highest damage mods and it's over 500 per triwpire, then just put it across robot's path or lure them into the trap and BOOM. I took out the Behemoth convoy with three or four tripwires per behemoth. I maxed the Tear on my Ropecaster to speed up tiedown, I can get a Glinthawk in two shots, I might swap one for a Handling though. For Rattler I just maxed Handling, but 90% of the time I just leave it in my inventory as it's pretty useless for the sniper playstyle.

U can definitely use tripcaster in middle of the fight, keep some machines distant and u can shoot them, until, they get angry and go right to the trap. Run a little, put some wires, and shoot, works greatly for me in ultrahard. Even in middle of the fight . Of course all other weapons are good

the tripcaster is an amazing weapon, get the fully upgraded version with explosives but in a load of damage modifiers and its great with luring enemies in and causing them to explode. does a ton of damage.

I honestly prefer to prioritize Handling on the Hunter Bow since it's ammo is so cheap anyway, thus you simply want to be able to fire as many shots off as fast as possible with it. A damage mod as a secondary focus certainly doesn't hurt though.

I am now finishing all collectibles, all campfires etc :) completed main story and all allies last weekend

I personally have and still am using my tripcaster as a aggressive Attacking weapon rather than a Trap placing device

Here's a crazy idea, Shadow/Adept Hunter Bow, Combine damage with fire. Two fire mods to max out fire burning status increase rate. takes less shots to burn the machines. Here's the catch, Damage ALSO applies to burning ticks BUT there's some sort of synergy because balanced between fire and damage does slightly more damage than either for the same amount.

on rattler I use 2 damage mods and one ice mod. I tie down large monsters with the ropecaster and then pull out the rattler and freeze them. then switch to the regular ammo and finish them.

Complete the dlc then use 51% damage coil which include tear, shock or fire also.

Believe it or not, the Shadow Rattler decked out with Damage and Handling mods is the best damage dealer in the entire game, not to mention has super cheap ammo. Freeze an enemy and you will absolutely decimate them with the Shadow Rattler! It's even more effective than a Damage modded Blast Sling.

The Rattler is the best choice for starting the Glinthawk Tie Down Hunter trial. Start trial, take far left rope slide, then jump up a couple levels of the hill there (not too high since you'll be very near the edge of the Trial area). This'll put you out of the reach/notice of the Tramplers. Equip the rattler with the damage only ammo (no shock or freeze ammo), then target and shoot at the one Glinthawk who is flying around (avoid hitting any Tramplers) until his awareness icon goes red. Switch to your Ropecaster and start tieing them down, wait a couple seconds after it takes effect to critical strike them (R1). The flying one you can get twice, and luckily all the other nearby Glinthawks will come join the party for your last critical hit needed for the trial. EDIT: Be sure to equip your Banuk anti-Freeze outfit with best Freeze protection mods, and activate the freeze protection potion too. Tear mods on best Ropecaster (Heavy Rope w/ Shadow Ropecaster) you have so you can get down to needing only two ropes to tie them down, maybe 3 or 4 with Carja Medium Ropecaster.

In rattler u wanna freeze ur enemies then use it while it has the crit effect. Especially usefull for fighting fireclaws

I would honestly recommend doing Tear mods on the Sharpshoot bow, that way your Tearblaster arrows are actually super effective. In fact, it might be worth buying two top tier Sharpshoot bows, loading one with Tear mods and one with Damage mods. Same with the top tier Hunter bow, buy two of them and load one with Damage and Handling mods and another with all Fire mods. That way each one ends up being maximized for a specific task. I think a Hunter Bow works a whole lot better for damage than the Sharpshot bow since it shoots MUCH faster and the hardpoints are very powerful anyway and a lot cheaper to make than Precision arrows.

Wish you could still get stealth weave in the 20s, but it's already broken with current caps. With 2 15% stealth weaves in the stealth armour you get 60% stealth. Last night I was able to killed a thunderjaw and the whole time, he couldn't find me lol. I would light him on fire while crouched, then go around the building and he would lose me almost immediately. He hit me I think once the whole fight. So I can see that having 80% stealth would be basically invisible the whole time. With the silent perks, you are basically undetectable.

Hey JorRaptor have you noticed in ultra hard mode I think they have made it harder to aim and shoot arrows? I was killing a scrapper the other day and I was going for it's components on its back and as I fire the arrow it almost curves out of way?!?!? Or is this just me let me know bro!!!

I ran out of Blaze and can't use the Freeze/Sticky bomb combo so I ended up modding my Rattler with full damage mods and used that instead. Tear blaster + Freeze + Go HAM with Rattler, I was getting around 80+ish damage per arrow. Pretty good imo. I feel like I'm playing the game properly against machines that way. Also, I believe that the rattler fires 5x5 bullets in a fast manner and then reloads for another 5x5 round of damage.

My rattler is all purple handling mods. Shoots super fast. Pretty much my main weapon

I personally love making well rounded builds on weapons since I like to mix it up without swapping mods all the time, wish you showed in video for others

There was a time, where I hit a thunderjaw in the heart for 19 990😂😂😂 I use two sharpshots, One for damage. One for tear, And the champion bow for freeze. And the Sriker bow for my main. A.K.A The bow I run around and kill small to medium enemies and Animals

Tinker perk is fun for experimentation with mods. I often find myself using a full stacked handling bow rather the straight damage. That coupe with triple shot is pretty lethal.

My first play through I didn't use any modifications or ancient armor and the game was 100x more fun

I build 2 tear and 1 fire on my hunter-bow and just spam hard-point arrows for super quick and cheap shredding of enemies; bec you can just spam it and effortlessly take off all their armor, while getting in great damage from the removed components and a decent bit from the arrows themselves. I build my sharpshooter bow with as high damage as I can get, and then build my elemental sling thingy with high fire and freeze, and my trip caster with high shock and damage. I'm still experimenting but I really find the high tear hunter bow with hard point arrows to be super fun to use especially when combined with pure damage-built triple shot sharpshooter bow. (I know you can build tear on sharpshooter for tearblast arrows but I only use tear blast for a easy removal when I don't have the time or ability to aim carefully, and tearblast already does what I want good enough without upgrades imo, and I prefer to have my hunter bow have a more obvious impact and I find the tear to really make each shot satisfying.)

At the beginning of the video you said it doesn't make sense to put a tear mod because it doesn't make sense. Do you mind clarifying why? Is it because the blast sling provides no tear, so you should put it on a weapon that does have tear? Thanks!

With so many weapon slots I just buy 2-3 copy of the same weapon. So instead of switching mods mid fight, I just switch to the same weapon with mods specific to one ammo type.

I roll a shadow and lodge bow side by side. I jack the lodge with damage. Then I have 200 tear on the shadow. Triple notched the shadow loads faster and reveals a thunderjaw heart in one shot.

What I do: HunterBow @ 180handling and I shoot the crap out of that stormbird. No chance they can do anything. I spam 60 arrows at that sucker and it always has to reset its attacks. Maybe it lands 1 or 2 hits, if I'm not careful. Of course I use the elements too, but if push comes to shove I hedgehog those suckers with hardpoint arrows like there's no tomorrow. 180handling is like no reload time at all - just plain R2 spam.

What I do is... Hunter bow: all damage Sharp shoot bow: all tear War bow: one ice, one shock, one corruption Rope caster: all handling Trip caster: one damage, one shock, one fire Sling: all ice Blast sling: all damage Rattler (never used it) Hope this helps!

Rattler is one of my main weapons for single target damage/handle mods great combo with the warbow or elemental bomb sling it does 100 to 300 damage per shot add in the burst thats close to 1000 or more per burst down side is the ammos not cheap it eats ammo fast so upgraded ammo bag for its needed or you will have to craft ammo mid fight its low range meaning close up combat so dont get hit

Tripcaster, kills all in 1 shot(well, u have to plan 15 traps xD, but u blow whatever)

I somehow got a 47% damage mod so I put that on my hunter bow since it fires fast and it has those hard point arrows ( only in the shadow) that do a decent amount of damage...I don't really like the sharp shot bow since it's slow to draw but it does a lot of damage so I use that for sniping...and then I just put 1 45% damage mod on my shadow rattler and 2 44% handling mods....some pretty lucky mods if you ask me

Tripple shot fire arrows on both if facing 2 dinos, shot corruption tripple arrows on one of them and enjoy the rest watching them tear each others.

in my experience, tear arrow will guarantee breaking the part already, so no need for tear mod for the shadow hunter bow

my question is is there a point in increasing the tear stats on the tearblast arrow? because even without any modification the tearblast arrow seems powerful enough to remove most components or armor plates with one shot.

My Adept Powershot bow does 1000 damage with 1 arrow not even stacking or hitting crits. If i stack 3 i can do at least 5000 if i hit a crit

I think you're wrong with the rattler I put ice on my rattler along with a little bit of damage and after I freeze something which usually only takes two bursts I switched the damage and do 100 or 50 damage with each bullet in each burst so personally I find it better to put ice on there so you can get the highest damage faster but that's just because I don't have the war Bow in my roster I prefer not to use it unless I'm messing around with corruption cuz hey watch a bunch of horses fight each other is kind of funny

The S. Sling (not S. Blast Sling) is amazing for applying status effects. I prefer it to freeze enemies versus the L. War Bow in most situations and keep my L. War Bow modded with corruption most of the time. Surprised you didn't include it in this video. Also, the S. Hunter Bow, while great as fire, is pretty damn awesome with Damage+Handling mods, especially against humans and faster machines (which is why I keep two). The S. Rattler's freezing ammo is great against humans, but with full damage mods can melt down frozen machines.

Ok, sorry, gonna stop you RIGHT there. The best mods depend on individual play style. So, there is no "Best Mods" build. No, I don't care what argument you make about it. If I want to make all my shock weapons stronger, I use shock mods, if I want their other attributes to be stronger, I use those. Sometimes you want more damage AND better handling. As i said, it is up to individual playstyle. We, as gamers, need to start rejecting this idea that any one build is "The Best", period. Especially when the actual evidence exists that no such creature exists
