Today I'm 1 month out from left knee replacement. The pain is much less and it isn't waking me up at night. Outpatient physical therapy is great. The first week after surgery I was so angry at the unrelenting pain. I called my surgeon and he increased my oxycodone temporarily from 10 to 15 mg every 4 hours. That carried me through the worst of it. Be sure you have a surgeon who will be available to your calls. I didn't know that his practice would not refill meds on weekends (!). Also make sure you have an elevated toilet seat. Didn't realize I would need one since I am fairly short, 5'3". Husband went and got me one with side bars and it made life so much easier.

@@dolokigaming3719 Yes, the post operative pain is gone. I can walk well--I'm up to walking a mile a day with no pain. However, if I don't exercise enough the knee gets stiff. A little activity works it right out.

I found the information in this video very helpful. I am into my 3rd week POS operation of a complete right knee replacement. I am on a lot of medication to reduce pain and blood thinner for blood clot. Staying positive, being patient ,safety conscious at all times to prevent falls ,twisting or jerking the injuried leg is of utmost importance.Doing the exercises each day is a must to ensure a good outcome for a good range of motion ,strength and stability. Once again Thank you for providing such an informative video.

The second one has been amazing, same surgeon as last one, but the advancement of knee replacements, I had the new Columbus implant.. 2 weeks on, I'm already bending 120 degrees, and almost at full straightness, just waiting for my staples out.. All this was done with Epidural.. If it needs doing, get it done x

They had to put two six inch rods on either side of the knee parts, it is different and still working on the bending but I am up to 126 degrees of bending and am working on the cane and walking a lone sometimes. I use the walker still too. It has been a long road but am walking. Thank you Docs for all your information and encouragement.

I've heard that's a good description of how it feels right after this OP. And that one SHOULD NOT STOP TRYING to do every exercise. it's the only way to make it back to normal -- or close to it. I can confirm that from previous knee surgeries to repair tears, etc. Recovery takes Patience and HARD WORK. And patience has never been my strong suit -- but I've had to learn it after multiple surgeries. It is the only way.

@Anita TKR surgery is the last surgery of knee so pl be careful as health will not come back. Are you a RA patient? As a thumb rule if you are recommended TKR surgery pl consult at least five Ortho Spl’s and there is real problem in movement only then go for surgery one at a time.Take some good glucosamine combination for six weeks, use sports shoes,do cycling by ex cycle at home;use double hinged knee support with patella open. On both knees , alternatively you can take inj with consultation of good Ortho spl, increase protein intake eggs or fish.ask good Physio therapist for mobilisation of knees excercise.pl take a very considered decision on joint replacement as it last option.regards

@Anita Don't go by one person's unfortunate experience when the majority have good and even terrific outcomes. Do you know & trust your surgeon? Have you asked him/her about their experience in performing this OP, what their previous patients' outcomes were? Do your own due diligence and then do what is right for YOU. Is it still a scary prospect, even when everyone you know is delighted they had it done and wished they'd done it sooner? YEP! K-TEP is not to be taken lightly. That's why my excellent docs here in Austria have told me over the years to wait, wait, wait to get it done. But now? It's my only option. Am I looking forward to it? O Hell No. But do I want my work life to end prematurely? No. And my retirement will be hell if I DON't have functioning knees. So ...... ! GOOD LUCK!

Don’t put off the surgery just because you think people will need to take care of you. I live alone so I spent the night in the hospital after surgery and when I came home, I came home by myself, it is doable. No need to be in pain. If I can do it, you can do it.

Don’t do the total knee replacement just have the nerve cut and u will not have anymore pain I wish I would have been told this ahead of time.

That does not help every patient, like those of us who have zero cartilage left. And I'd bet cutting nerves leads to other serious problems, like imbalance, stumbling, falls ... Not feeling the natural, warning pains of arthritis & injuries like torn meniscii only means the joint damage wrought by grinding bone on bone will increase faster, ultimately making replacement even more urgent....

@@BJones-yw4dd Nine months ago I had the two medial nerves cut - it has helped quite a bit. I certainly do not have what you describe. My knee still feels somewhat achy, I have no problem with balance or falls - its not like that. I still am aware of my knee joint and that it isnt good - but the pain is duller than it used to be. I have good days and not so good days. I only did the medial side, the surgeon recommended doing the lateral nerve too but I thought I would do that later if I needed it. I do have some aches on that side, but they have never been very bad. My meniscus is torn medially and in shreds laterally, per my MRI. This nerve surgery isnt covered by insurance and is very expensive and one day if I live long enough will probably need a TKR. Its basically a delaying tactic since the two nerves I had cut would both be cut in a TKR anyway. The area of numbness btw is about the side of my palm, and I still feel pressure.

Is drainage from the surgery area is normal after 9th day of surgery. I consulted my surgeon and he said it's the waste blood that should go out. Is anyone faced the same post surgery?

The way this man crossed his leg has me thinking he’s an actor…I can’t cross my legs like that or walk without cane. I’m waiting to be scheduled for tkr and thanks to OHIP ridiculous cutbacks, I think this will be another day surgery. No one looks forward to hospital stays but, being discharged on the same day is scary. After two arthroscopic shoulder repairs, I stayed overnight only because of sleep apnea. Ridiculous cutbacks…

Yeah, they would hardly follow a real patient around! It's also obvious that this is just for show, since he has no incision, AND at one point they explain that the bandages are just to show which leg was "operated".
