Hey Dan, Great tips and information on the proper way to horizontal weld. Good job of explaining technique, looks alot easier then it is in real life to do, I know Practice, Practice Practice, that's what I tell the grand kids, but now granddad needs to practice what he preaches! So I'm new to welding, just started a week ago! But you mentioned not to take the slag off when it's hot. What does it mean when my slag like peels up on its own?

That means youre doing a good job at keeping a good pace without going faster or slower and your doing good job at not spacing it out too much if you really have to hit it alot to take it off thats bad if it just starts peeling on its own when its starts cooling down thats a good sign

It's ridiculous how the Lincoln Electric fume extractor arm costs $1000... BY ITSELF.

+n3rdbear Agreed, but I got mine for a fraction of the price when a local shop went out of business. Right place at the right time!
