In the mind of a child, Gordon is as important and relevant as any other model. Bringing younger generations into the hobby is essential, especially as the era of everyday steam power passes beyond the memory of the older generations. In many ways, Gordon and his imaginary colleagues are more relevant to the continuation of this esteemed pastime than they have ever been. I applaud OOBill for his choice of projects. Whoever gets the benefit of this model will know, simply by being amongst the many other subjects on the OOBill channel, that their chosen interest is important to many people and that they need not feel isolated in any way. Gordon is Important to all of us! Thank you OOBill!

I appreciate your tenacity when finding the optimum solution to a problem with a total disregard to the time needed. I hope the viewers understand how much time it takes to both do the repair and produce the video. The, now established, style of video that you have decided on is very pleasant and enjoyable so I wouldn't change a single thing. Great couple of videos and looking forward to the next. Bill Hughes

Another excellent service, Bill! These Hornby Thomas & Friends range models are an absolute treasure, especially now that they're no longer being produced! Guarantee that these will last for far longer than the equivalent Bachmann Thomas models, these are just severely robust and reliable! I'm sure Gordon here will provide plenty of enjoyment for Margaret and her family for years to come!

My guy. You are boss at this. I know where I'm sending my locos if they pack up working.

That engine definitely needs tiny red LEDs in the eyes...! These two videos have been very entertaining and informative.

Great 2 videos, those parallel pliers seem to be the tool to sort out mangled value gear . I'll need to get a set of those.
@stuartburton11672 ай бұрын
They are called Maun pliers not something you use very often but a life saver when you need them.

Great repair job Bill the works is churning them out. Could you please do a little review of your endoscope I am thinking of buying something similar but not sure which of the hundreds on sale to get.

As the little, landscape -aspect Thomas books got me interested in both reading and trains when I was a boy, I always have a soft spot for a "Thomas" repair. Another one saved from the scrapheap. Great stuff! PS: who are those two dodgy looking characters skulking by the green car??

Hi there Bill 2 quick questions plewse and thankyou. Q.1. Do you use a cleaning solution in your sonic cleaner or just plain water as there are soo many different oppinons out the in KZfaq land of what one works best but I thought you would know as your bits come out all nice clean and and shiny. Q.2. Is it ok to put plsstic bits in there as well , ie , sleeved wheels and axles off an old triang open axle bogies or even the whole entire X.03 motor in the sonic cleaner. PS i bought a smaller usb rechargeable type of one and it seems to work ok but seemed to leave a bit of a milky type of residue on the steel bits but i did only use a bit of dishwashing liquid in it. Cheers from John in Australia

I use Priory Polishes clock cleaning fluid diluted approximately 7 parts water to 1 part solution. It will clean on it's own but can take hours. The sonic cleaner speeds things up nicely to about half an hour. Water on it's own or even water with detergent won't do much in a sonic cleaner if you are looking to clean very dirty items although larger more industrial capacity sonic cleaners maybe work better with just water. There are dedicated sonic cleaner solutions which are probably more available and suitable. I don't put plastics in mine but depending on what sort of solution you are using in a sonic cleaner plastics are fine. I wouldn't go as far as putting an entire motor in one though.

Is it possible that the bearings have become welded to the chassis due to the start of Mazac rot?
@oobill2 ай бұрын
Not so much welded but trapped as the chassis swells around the bearings.
@thelostdrumstickrailway2 ай бұрын
@@oobill Yes, trapped is probably more accurate. I had a similar era Thomas with the same issue. The chassis crumbled to pieces and broke into two parts as I tried to release the bearings. Mazac rot is still a curse for that generation of Hornby locos. Keep up the good work!

Would the 5 pole commutator and mag ring fit the 3 pole housing ?
@DavidStocker-pm4dy2 ай бұрын
No, I found out on the internet, that apparently the spindle of the 5 pole is a smaller diameter than the 3 pole.
@03rrrider642 ай бұрын
Thanks for heads up won’t try that then 👍
@DavidStocker-pm4dy2 ай бұрын
Pleased to help. It is a shame though, because they say that the 5 pole can run on lower power even on DC.
