Hi there Bill ,, I have a 25 class br diesel here that i bought of fb market place and was told it was a good runner ,, haha ,, Sooo not the case in this purchase hey ,, some people tell lies just to move there junked up trains on but what gets me is they are soo deceptive to there buyers its gives marketplace a bad name realy. I got it home put it on my test track and it didnt even spark in either direction. So i pulled it apart to find it had a ringfield in it almost identical but with only 2 axles an 4 wheels and it was jammed solid. So pulled it apart to find the commutator jammed up on the rubber ring type magnet like yours has. I pulled it out and replaced it with a round metal magnet out of a little 040 steam train that had in my parts. I had no idea they made a rubber magnet for these ringfield as this supposed magnet do stuffall. So you have taught me something new tonight ,, thankyou. Cheers from John in Australia

The black five running with a rake of blood and custard coaches round your scenic layout put me in mind of old Hornby catalogues. Very photogenic.

Love to watch you repair the old boys,they still look great running around a layout…..the new ones do entice you all the same with the smooth quiet running….they all have their place…just a shame they aren’t “fixer”friendly.

What a lovely smooth runner that Black 5 is after her tune up. I see you are enjoying the J27 too. I love my J27. I think her the best quality to value for money loco I've ever bought. I bought an as new Castle with tender drive and she too was a reluctant starter but once going you could then turn the power down, but the more I have run her the less of a sluggish starter she has become, so I think you are right about this black 5. It will inprove over time.

Bill, an easy one for a change. Didn't see you do it, I always clean the loco / tender contact pin and tabs and make sure they are a tight fit to ensure good supply.

Another interesting video, thanks Bill. One tender drive version of the Black Five I would like to see you work on is the very old Graham Farish OO scale one. Has the motor in the tender driving the loco wheels by way of a shaft to the loco. All the best.

45021 was the rarer of the models released and is/was sought after. It wasn’t a special edition i don’t think it was just limited run.

Hi Bill I've got one of these in a limited edition lms it seems to have an issue with the loco jamming up when one side of the wheels are it the 6oclock position and more in reverse than forwards. I've stripped it right down, quatering looks to be OK (how much would make a difference?) do you have any ideas as to what it could be please I'm at a loss. Thanks ian
