My parents used to put pepper on my tongue whenever they caught me lying. What they were meaning to teach me was to not tell lies. What they actually taught me was how to lie more effectively.
@emmasilver2332
@emmasilver2332 2 жыл бұрын
@Pond3r Thiz not really. I was afraid of my parents. They yelled at me a lot. Sometimes they spanked me. I only lied in order to protect myself. If they had been more understanding about my mistakes, I would not have been so afraid to tell them the truth. Looking back, I realize that a lot of instances I didn't need to lie, but their actions had conditioned my very young brain to be afraid of them. I grew to hide anything that didn't suggest that everything was okay. I bottled in a lot of my insecurities and stresses because I thought they'd be mad at me. When I said something hurts, my dad would tell me it doesn't. When I said it was cold, my dad would tell me it wasn't. So I stopped complaining. I stopped asking for help. I bottled in my anger and fear and anxiety and pretty much every negative feeling that plagued me. And if I needed something, I either did it myself without telling them, or I suffered in silence, depending on how badly I needed it. If I needed a mental health break from homework, I would stay in my room, pretending to do my homework but actually just listening to music. When I felt like I had too much on my plate, I would just lie about how much I had really done. Because I was afraid they wouldn't take the time to understand how much I was hurting. I was afraid they'd either dismiss my feelings or yell at me for not meeting their impossible expectations. I never lied out of moral depravity. I was a good kid, all things considered. The only reason why I lied was because they expected too much of me, and they had a habit of losing their temper when I didn't measure up.

Parents need to understand that they are not in control. I have a 15 yo daughter...and she is completely free to make her own choices without any punishment or consequences from me. I have never told her to do anything, she does it if she wants to. Like...she hates cleaning...so I don't make her....I clean everything! If we have a disagreement about something...we both sit down and talk about it. I never get angry or annoyed, I want to know what she has to say. And MOST times I side with her. Whatever her choice is, IF I can fulfill that choice for her, I give it to her....its not my place to make choices for her!

I'm 26, I have never been hit in my life. My mom was abused as a child and she swore she would never do that to her kids. She was maybe 6 or 7, she was playing outside with older siblings and kids, they were jumping through the fence, she didn't quite make it and she stabbed herself on it, was bleeding quite badly. She went to her mother for help and got a beating for it first. Her older sister fell on her bike and hurt herself badly, snuck back home hoping parents wouldn't notice her, they did and she got the beating from her dad. She and her siblings resent their father to this day, even as adults, long after he has passed away. Beating and disrespecting children like that only breaks relationships. I'm a firm believer in discipline, just not by physical means. My 53 year old mother still tears up and breaks down thinking back and talking about her parents.... It's heartbreaking and she is the most incredible person I know.

I actually discussed the religious text being referenced with my local rabbi. He explained that the line does not mean literally beating your child. To sum it up, it’s like a farmer punishing his child by making the child move hay bales or till soil. The beating is through hard work or labor, a test of endurance and resolve rather than a test of pain or durability.

Fun Fact: The Bible Verse “Spare the rod, spoil the child” doesn’t mean what the preponderance of people think it does. Amazingly, it means quite the contrary of abuse. The Bible is very cryptic and some segments are easily misunderstood without consulting an expert on Biblical vernacular. It actually means to be there to guide and protect your children like a shepherd does his sheep. The rods shepherds use to help guide their sheep is the type of rod He is referring to. In other words, the true meaning behind the verse is that your child needs your guidance, love and support to keep them on the right path. Of course, I don’t mean to critique this great channel. The Infographics Show has taught me so much and I love educating myself with the myriad of videos they have to offer. I only wish to share the truth behind this age old misinterpretation.

Then again I ran away and stumbled into America and I was yet again adopted by another family, but this family loved me. I was different my family said, and said I was scared around kids, shy, and have scares around my body. Now I still have these systems and people are trying to help. Do you have that life I haved?

People on here making light of child abuse ought to be ashamed. People bragging that they themselves were abused and turned out "just fine" need to take a look in the mirror, because if you think there's nothing wrong with abusing a child, you're anything but fine, sorry to say. A parent has no more right to put their hands on a child than they do onto another adult. In fact, it's even worse to do it to a child because it's more frightening for them and they cannot defend themselves against an adult. As a survivor of child abuse myself, I find myself sickened by too many of the comments on here. My own mother once injured me so badly that I should've gone to a hospital, but she got her paramedic boyfriend to help her administer aid so that she wouldn't get in trouble. She, like all other abusers of children, thought it was her right to do what she wanted to me because she "created" me and her treatment of me transcended the law, and when consequences for her actions were possibly on the table, she chose instead to cover it up because she knew that she wouldn't be facing a child in a court of law, but an adult who could actually fight back.

I think corporal punishment is fine as a last means of punishing a child. Sometimes kids don’t take the parents seriously until they mean business. I’d rather have a kid with a couple bad childhood memories than become a middle-aged Karen that throws a tantrum when they don’t get their way.

This reminds me of something. After becoming the dictator of the USSR, Joseph Stalin went to visit his mother, "Keke". At one point this happened: Stalin: Why did you beat me so hard? Keke: Look at what you have become.
