@@Northpole47 In Europe, no such thing is done for the commercial sector. It is prohibited by law and there is prison. Ethically it is a very bad thing. If one is in need of money he goes to work in a call center or does another job, he does not slaughter nature by feeling like a great fisherman.

In the United States, you’d be surprised how strict commercial fishing regulations are, and just how few people are skilled enough, brave enough, smart enough, and wealthy enough to do what Dan is doing here. I’ve been commercial spearing on bottles for a long time. I’m good at it and this looks easy. Rest assured that you could not do what is being done here without lots and lots of experience. I know it looks easy. It’s not easy. It’s a really good way to get your self killed if you don’t understand what’s going on and even if you do. You simply have no idea what you’re talking about. I freedive and spearfish all the time and I do not agree with you. He’s in 100+ feet of water most likely commercially spearfishing because of the set up he’s got. You tell me, would you rather this guy be fishing/using nets and catch shit he didn’t intend or would you rather him be down on the sea floor shooting exactly with he’s intending. Spearfishing on scuba is a different sport than spearfishing while freediving. Doesn’t put shame to it lmao Judging by the depth I doubt this area sees a lot of freedivers, and not to mention the loads of fish I see here. Even if a freediver were to come here they still have plenty of options to chose from.

To solidify my point I doubt you’ll find this guy on scuba and spearing in 30ft of water. The water here is just too deep to do what he is doing efficiently without scuba

I'm not talking about whether or not he should be on a boat fishing or scuba diving, I'm talking about the amount of training and free diving it takes to be a solid spearfisherman, and yes of course it's my opinion as yours is to defend this shame. @@dans2376 I think it’s forbidden in most parts of the world because people take advantage of being on scuba and overkill. But there’s nothing wrong with doing it responsibly.

Spearfishing is definitely a quantity over quality thing, only so much you can shoot before everything gets spooked. Commercial spearfishing especially, every pound more a fish weighs the bigger the pay. Certain fish will be worth more per pound as well.
