Lovely. This felt so real. When you have anxiety small tasks like cooking, getting ready can be painful. And yes, you get angry and fight the monster, sometimes. The actress was very able to mimic the mixed emotions, and she even managed to make "that voice": the one you use to tell everyone that this is OK, this is fine, but you're the one who needs to hear this 😭

I think the films purpose is to portray anxiety and/or depression. Her scratching her arm + her grabbing the strawberries while her hand was bloodied might be representative of how everything feels like it is falling apart and going wrong. Her still striving to make the cake even though she is in so much pain is showing how it feels like to not want to disappoint a friend, pushing her own issues (anxiety) aside.

I really liked the metaphor of the giant worm being her anxiety. The way it coiled and tightened around her stomach reminds me of how it feels to have severe anxiety. Your stomach just feels tight and it's hard to breathe. I also really enjoyed when the worm laid down on top of the woman and she started to pet it. In a way it felt like she was coming to terms with her anxiety and almost learning how to coexist with it. What a great film !!

@@vaevobis3589 I understand your point of view, but do not agree. At the atomic level there is no direct copy, even if a hydrogen atom has exactly the same properties as another and can therefore be classified, it still has a different position in space. Even if photons have the same wavelength and represent a color in the electromagnetic spectrum, or radio or X-Ray only the property is the same, but there are two different locations. In this sense there is no copy but the behavior is prescribed in the matter and photons itself.

The worm isn't even the weird part. So she wears a white shirt when she cooks and cuts strawberries, and you know the shirt's gonna be ruined forever in a few minutes. She cuts her hand, never washes up the blood or tries to put pressure in the wound and just covers it with gauze. Then she picks up the strawberries with this hand, never tries to keep it clean or wear a glove over the gauze, so it's all berry now, and she washes them. Because she hasn't washed them before cutting I guess? And now the gauze is filthy and wet? So much weirdness

I can't explain, but somehow this reminds me of "Trilogy of Terror" , with Karen Black fighting that Zuni doll. It's more what you DON'T see here that creates the terror . More psychological than physical, like the '70s style of horror. Victoria Dunsmore really makes all this work. She is a major talent in the making, another Jamie Lee Curtis.

She didn't overcome her anxiety. Maybe for the moment. But the worm went into her again. I've been having severe anxiety for 17 years now. It's chronic and I had to learn how to coexist with it. Just like when she petted the worm. Sometimes it's really bad sometimes with agoraphobia, sometimes with panic attacks all the time, sometimes it's better. They show it really well. But it's not about depression. I'm bipolar. When I'm depressed I can't even clean my flat. And meeting friends is absurd.

Anxiety is a monstrous thing.
@ilovecats4208
@ilovecats4208 3 жыл бұрын
I loved this! I have horrible PTSD induced anxiety, and since I'm imaginative, I came up with a way to get "rid" of the bad, intrusive thoughts. I came up with a huge, black, gluttonous monster with a huge mouth, many rows of teeth, a fat belly and claws. He just sits there, in complete blackness, in his own filth in wait. When an anxious/intrusive thought happens, I feed it to the monster and throw it in it's mouth. It's never satiated so it's capacity is unlimited. It digests it and when it comes out, the power of those thoughts is so much more diminished, and it helps that it sits in that filth and flattens it, not thinking of it. It never helped me to "throw the thought out into the sky/universe/ether" because it would still be out there with the ability to affect anything. Anyhow, this film reminded me of my anxiety and what I do to cope with it. She seemed to "love" the monster she birthed, because it helped her like mine does. My take is that she was so afraid at first (anxiety!) when she first saw the baby worms because she didn't know how to handle it when directly confronted by something that made her anxious (going out to a party). But then she realised worm/coil was there to help, like my monster. Sorry for the long story but this film was so well made and relatable for me! The actress was great. I loved the old style phone and cassette player because I grew up with those things! The only thing that left me confused and wondering was did she bake some of the worms into the dessert on purpose? Maybe to help others with their anxiety? Bravo xx

Thanks for sharing your experiences and I really liked your take on the film! Everyone copes and deals with anxiety in different ways. It took me a long time to find a way(s) to deal with my more intrusive thoughts and anxiety, but even now, I sometimes have to change up my approach. Re: the worms, the original ending was a little more worm-y than in the final product, but I'll let you determine if she was successful in getting them all out or if she left one or two in. 😊

@ilovecats4208 3 жыл бұрын
@@SpencerRyerson wow, thank you for replying! Your film was fantastic. After reading what you wrote, I had another thought: Maybe your film was a metaphor played out depicting how anxiety works in the mind and the stages leading up to a full blown panic attack. Beginning with the itchy rash, then some small worms, then finally the "mother" worm (things getting bigger=more worries; then eventually a panic attack). They seem to correlate with each other. At first she was ok; listening to music, trying on clothes, doing her nails. The rash began after the first phone call from her girlfriend confirming they were going to the party. As more time went by her anxiety ramped up because it was getting closer to the time of leaving, hence the small worms. Then finally the panic attack part when she "birthed" the biggest worm. Her anxiety was gone. By petting it she was thanking it. In the last scene when she showed up at the door she looked confident, put together and pretty. Sorry for the long post again and I hope this makes sense; I didn't get much sleep last night. I hope to see more films from you in the future! Xx (And I do think she left some worms in the dessert 🤫)

First time she scratched her arm I thought: _Nevous about meeting new people._ 🤔 The second time, when we saw the raw lacerations, I had two thoughts: _Ugggh, did she just scratch her scabby arm, then carry on cutting without washing her hands?_ The third thought, in under a millisecond was: _Monster_ ... *RUN!* 😜 The hell with eating _anything_ that girl has been near! 😂😂😂 The ending was a little predictable, the acting superb, but overall a good job by everyone!

Great metaphor with the giant worm, since anxiety does feel like that. Very well done. Also, I want a pet giant earthworm.

@@brentage5000 You're certainly right, even for the sake of travel I wouldn't have one of those things in my own body...maybe if they are dead, cooked, salted and peppered, then I'll give a look to them but that's it xd.

We are not all , the same ! And this is good! What I find most terrifing, regarding anxiety , is the pressure of people around . I can not be myself in the middle of many people . And " miself " is a really beautiful person. So, let me be who I am . Don't try to change me ! 🙂

This hit a hell of a lot closer to home, a hell of a lot more consistently, than I was prepared for. It was also a lot grosser than I was prepared for, and both of those aspects were handled awesomely! It reminded me a bit of this short called Flick, which I’m pretty sure is from the same year nonetheless.
