Hi lovely folks, I’m Ciara writer and director of Dead Skin. This was a labour of a lot of love, a lot of sweat, tears, bacon fat, scratchy school uniforms and latex. On behalf of me and the team, thank you for taking the time to watch, like, share and comment on the film. It means a lot and we can’t thank you enough. As someone who inherited sensitive skin and painful acne from my dad, I’ve constantly tried to find ways to cover up. A wise friend on an excruciatingly hot school trip to Berlin had to talk some sense into me because I kept wearing jumpers in a heat wave. I never knew she had the same acne problems until that trip. So this is definitely for all the acne skin sensitive dearies that just need a hug and a GP referral. Thanks once again and so excited to see what you all think. Any questions I’ll do my best to answer✨

I have lupus and my body doesn't regulate my temperature properly so so summers are a nightmare for me. I love this because even though I don't normally have rashes I'm usually miserable everywhere I Go. I have to avoid sunlight because of the lupus and I have to avoid heat because my body goes to whatever temperature is around me. During high school I had acne on top of it so that just made everything even more horrible especially during school

As a girl in her 20s, I’m loving all the makeup and skincare horror shorts these days. In a dark way, women’s constant need to be perfect every single day really shows in these shorts. It’s an obsessive desire to chase perfection that doesn’t exist.

Oh, this is so relatable. I have sensitive skin that if i don't pay attention to the products I use, i either get severe acne or severe dermatitis. And when i was a teenager, i was repeatedly forced to endure painful superficial skin treatments. It started simple enough with a Salicylic acid face wash, but went on to stupid mud masks and straight up cinnamon and honey on the skin that burned like hell. Those were the most torturous times of my life. It's only when i let it be, changed all my products to simpler ones and focused on things other than my skin that i recovered. My skin still reacts badly from time to time, but it is never as severe as back then. My family's ill-advised pursuit of beauty and perfection hurt me a lot. Can't beleieve how much money was spent on bogus products by big brands...

Lots of coming-of-age horror (especially female centred) is body horror. Symbolism of not feeling comfortable in our skin and/or our bodies changing. Just an observation! Great movie but I’d love to see a different take on it (maybe just a genre outside of body horror) but great movie! ❤️

I have super sensitive skin and regularly wake up with huge patches of bleeding, red raw rashes where I've scratched in my sleep. I also have the condition where it feels like insects are crawling on your skin. The need to itch is unreal. I think this short has a double meaning though, at least for me, being a girl who never fit in and would have given anything to be in someone elses skin, just for one day.
@jhoannaacasio175024 күн бұрын
This short hits way close to home for my family and I. My sister and I used to get severe flare ups from ecszema when we were teens. It starts as a small itchy patch of skin on the inner elbow and before you know it your scratching your whole upper arm. What started out the size of a quarter that morning has now become a whole dollar bill at the end of the day. Sometimes you dont even realize your scratching your arm throughout the day. Trying hard to not scratch and applying cortizone and benedryl is all done in vain. So its time to pull out the big guns and get a prescription for Triamcinolone ointment or cream. A topical steroid that when applied a couple times a day for a few days it successfuly stops the flareups. However your skin acclimates and when another flareup occurs it becomes worse than before. Its a vicious cycle. In worse case scenarios for my sister and i the ecszema would spread in huge patches throughout our arms, legs, stomach and neck. As a teen this caused being alot more self conscious with our body. My sis and i are now in our thirtys. We still get flareups from time to time but no where near as severe as we used to.

I recognize that this film was meant to exaggerate the horrors of skin issues, but for me (before I read the creator’s comment) I saw this as a film about when mental illness become too much, but you don’t know how to properly communicate it to the people who truly care about you (in this case, Jesse’s mum.) because you know they won’t really understand. In this case, Jess found a solution to her problem, even though the solution was shocking and unhealthy (representing addiction/unhealthy coping mechanisms). She found relief after giving in to the very urge she was omitted from by her mother. Idk I’m probably definitely looking way too far into it. Either way, this was a great film.

That was excellent! Really intense, yet relatable. I’ve had skin flare ups before, and sometimes I just wanted to take it off like a wet suit, soak it in skincare products and put it back on again. Luckily, it’s not as bad anymore 😊 P.S. I’ll not be eating bacon again for a while! 😂😂
