Thank you so much for watching our film "Dysmorphia". It was inspired by my own 20 year struggle with an eating disorder. In the film we explore the horrors women put themselves through in search of acceptance. I believe in the power of the horror genre to spark vital conversations about difficult topics while enjoying scares along the way!

This hit home hard. BDD and self harm for over 30 yrs, still fighting my demons in a world more and more obsessed with an impossible beauty "standard". One thing someone once told me helps me fight off the urge to have plastic surgery. My mother passed away some years ago and people always used to say how much we looked alike. Now that she's gone, the features that I always hate(d) about myself, like my nose and face shape, are the things I want to keep as they are because it reminds me of her and she created me. If I would change them then I would no longer see her when I look in the mirror, discard what she created and not love her face. Thank you mom, miss you so much 💖🙏 Staying away from Instagram helps too 😅

The quality of this production was honestly more than I anticipated. I have never been a fan of horror just for a fright. But, your use of horror scenes were so brilliantly connected to the emotional aspects of the story that it pulled me in and I could not pull away. The underlined feeling from the horror really freaked me out and was reminiscent of how I felt when watching Hitchcock movies when I was young. The subject made me sad, yet angry that pressures are put on people to be physically perfect. After viewing, I wanted to cry, for those who feel this type of emotional distress. In my humble opinion, you successfully and artistically brought the horrors of something real into the light. Congratulations, RLW

@leow3696Ай бұрын
I think it's partly because they *are* so short-it's remarkably difficult to keep the tension up for two hours, while it's easier in a short format, which ends up making it punchier. In my opinion, anyway.

They’re not objectively “better.” They just work better for people who have shorter attention spans! I prefer the fleshed out nature of a full-length film. Most shorts leave me disappointed, especially the good ones, because I want more! So, you *like* shorts more. It’s up to preference. Neither is better or worse than the other 😋

We all need to remind our children, as often as we can, that it’s our differences that make us unique and interesting and beautiful, and it’s our similarities that are invisible. People carve up their face to look like whomevers on either side and expect to be held above for it. It’s a fine line between flawless and bland. Children need to be comfortable with stepping out of line.

@@KittyCat22976I can answer with my own experience. I sometimes waste 1 to 2 hours of my day tearing my closet apart in search of an outfit that doesn’t look bad on me. I am constantly adjusting myself, brushing my hair, checking every reflective surface. I began wearing makeup to express myself, but now I struggle deeply to go out in public without loads of eyeliner. I am frustrated with my inability to shed weight due to multiple factors, and I’ll claw at areas I am most ashamed of, appearance-wise. Anytime I do something “gross” “stupid” or “bitchy” I see myself in the third person, thinking “That’s exactly how a fat person WOULD act.” I hate nearly every photo or video taken of me. I, sometimes unintentionally, spout “ew” when someone shows me a photo that I appear in. Tried to count my calories for a while once, and the first time I exceeded my daily limit, I cried myself to sleep. I have to try to avoid scales, mirrors, and areas with conventionally beautiful people, such as Hollywood. When I am unable to avoid these things, I can randomly get triggered and act mopey the rest of the day, and I will sometimes change my entire look in the middle of the day. When I am on facetime I usually focus on my own video. I don’t want even the people I am closest to to have to see me in an ugly way. I genuinely do not believe my family or partner when they tell me I’m pretty. I don’t know what the fuck they see in me but I don’t see it. If I wake up with hair that looks too much like a bob or too smooth, my entire day is set to be less than ideal. I see my double chin, my fat rolls, my crooked teeth, my wide body type, my posture, my hair with the slightest dampness of sweat It’s a living hell. I’m exhausted. But I’m just really thankful that my depression isn’t at the level where I am unable to take care of myself and exercise.

I just came home from treatment for stage 4 colon cancer. First thing I pick to watch is a chick lying about having cancer + scamming people lol By 1:29 in, had to stop to comment because her laughing about it makes me enraged! Pretty sure the faking cancer is a small part in the film so I'm still watching. Just had to vent about scumbags who actually do this. I wouldn't wish what I've been thru + am still going thru on anyone. It's beyond words how awful, how painful + how effected everything in your life becomes. Faking a devasting illness for anything, sympathy or money is a mental issue. Someone with that ability...to lie + scam their family, friends, community + strangers with empathy need mental health help. Going to go back to watching. Sorry for the rant. I'm sure the movie is great! Anyone who stopped to read this novel, thank you. Wishing you love, light + many blessings ✌️💙 EDIT: Good film. Sad. I think this movie is art. Even tho it's inspired about eating disorder, I wasn't thinking about that watching it. I read that at the end to not get spoilert. No, I think it also fits the genderdysphoria. Would be an amazing anecdote. There are people suffering from it and some of them are regretting it after the surgery. While genderdysphoria is peer-reviewed and really happens in nature, our diagnose methods are not 100% accurate. Since the psyche is very complexe, it makes everything more difficult. And the patient needs to prove the doctors it's real. Unfortunately, that's not easy. I thought the medicines in the bathroom were an indicator for that. And I thought the monster was her conscience, that haunted her and finally got her. But she didn't learn from the mistakes, even tho she changed her beautiful and perfect body (her moms words), and kept going while accepting the monster. Better check twice or ask different opinions to do a peer-review on yourself. It's an important decision folks, you never know. Also: If it's "just" the wrong gender you're in, you have nothing to fear, nor to lose. Embrace your new self and enjoy life, you deserve it ❤ It may be a very hard way but if you are willing to walk it, there is also so much to gain. Stay strong and brave 💪🏻 And stay healthy everyone!
@Da_bear-ij9gmАй бұрын
I wouldn’t say gender dysphoria happens “in nature.” That would be true for something like homosexuality which does occur throughout many animal species. Gender issues, however, can only happen in humans bc it is a result of a human social construct
