I've been trying to teach my boys that they will actually live if they don't eat for the 2 minutes I'm leading them to their fields, so this will definitely help! They finally got to meet each other for the first time yesterday :)

Glad I am not alone. I felt that way today as I was super frustrated with my horse trying to eat after every other step it seemed like.

I learned recently that you can actually train a horse to graze on command! When you take them out to hand graze, repeat a certain word like graze or eat, then let them drop their head. It takes a while but will eventually stop them from trying to snatch bites while being led or ridden. Going to work on it when I don't have a foot of snow on the ground!

This was my boy today...super frustrating!!! Also, he wanted to try to snag grass while going faster than a walk and that nearly sends me over his head! Scary. I am going to try these tips. Thanks so much.

I FELL OF A HORSE FOR THE 1ST TIME! I was having my 3rd lesson and was learning how to post. so i was trotting on a lunge line and i had grabbed a chunk of mane. but my hand sliped from the mane, and with me i probably couldn't stay on with out grabbing mane. Because as you know the trot is BUMPY, REALLY BUMPY. So i fell of, on my back and now i have a really sore back. But it's fine! It will get better! But I got back in the saddle and did some exercises!

Posting isn’t the easiest to master, I still have trouble getting on the correct diagonal most days haha. You’ll get better with time, just keep practicing! One tip for the future I can give to help develop your seat is to sit two beats, then rise. It helps!

@@Rem.Esm1, sorry i haven't seen your comment! Thanks so much for the tip, i had my 5th lesson resently and my instructor had me do a bare back lesson. We'll i had a bare back pad on him, but i loved it so much! I think i liked it more then riding with a saddle! Lol, idk why!?!

@@Rem.Esm1, yeah i also was building up leg muscle. I was mainly trotting and practicing posting, we'll trying to. It's really hard, with out stirrups! But i love it! I think i like it more because i can feel the horse's movements better?! It's also really comfy for me, haha😂 But I'm having my next lesson tommorrow and i really hope i ride with the bare back pad, lol! I've heard alot, that when riding with no stirrups your legs and calf, hurt alot. But mine didn't at all, which i was expecting to happen, but it didn't? I'm not complaining though😂

@@lissawilliams8877 Yes, bareback is really nice for that reason! It’s a great way to not only help your seat, but build muscle as well. (And you’ll get better at it with time) I’m hoping for my next lesson I can canter bareback for the first time, so that’s exciting! ☺️

An anti-grazing muzzle would also work too but I recommend bringing a water bottle with you to give the horse water every time it's hungry (every 30 or 60 minutes removing the muzzle and putting it back on after water) to prevent gastritis. (Note me if I wrote anything that's wrong here, I'm learning about horses)

Allowing the retired horse I care for, to munch on the way to their pasture, was the way I taught them to be comfortable allowing me (the scary new human) to put a harness on them - without any of the stalling attitude they regularly gave another caretaker. 2 weeks, I had them consistently welcoming the harness from me. Easy for me to say - I don't have a job with a punch clock to get to right after morning horse care. So I was able to speed up the harness process. And never have them throw an attitude and end up staying in their stall on a day with good weather. But it comes at the cost of having to stand around with a lead rope for... up to 28 minutes (I let them munch on the lead as long as they wanted a couple times in truly beautiful weather when there was no excuse for me to hurry. 25-28 minutes they will decide they're done, and head for the pasture of their own volition). Or, after 5-10 min of munching, when I'm thoroughly bored, and need to get on with my day, it becomes a game of "hope they pick their head up and don't let them put it back down". I think pulling out one of the long abandoned lunge ropes to tap the ground might be a reasonable way of requesting their compliance. Thanks.

This is so helpful! Love the video and amazing jumping!!! 🐎💖 I'm actually really struggling with leading my horse at the moment - he rears up and tries to climb on me - like a foal would to his mum or colts in a feild - he's caught me off guard a few times and tried to lean on me with his front leg (gave me a bit of a bloody nose! 🙄) It now makes me really nervous to stand in front of him or lead him around the field. Any advice on what I could do? 💕😅 (He's 11.3 hhs so he's only little but it's still pretty dangerous when you're caught off guard!)

I think that you should grab the rope first and make as if you were gonna leave if he dosent leave then you get the stick, but this way if he wants to eat he could until you make him leave it, cause maybe they feel like they cant eat when you are with them

When my I'm riding my pony on grass and he puts his head down, I usually just give him a bit of kick and he moves on. He is quite good with not tying to eat the grass. One problem I have riding him in open field is that he will buck and not listen to what I'm trying to tell him to do, have you any tips on how I could stop this or would it just be practise?

Even with a large amount of pressure from the lunge whip and eventually trying to pull his head up, he still won’t listen. Sometimes he’ll get up and trot for a few seconds then immediately dive his head down despite my pressuring him to keep him going :/

my horse doesn't respond to pressure that well either when it comes to this problem, But I find this really helps If you do a couple of ground work things like backing up, disengaging there hind end a couple times around the yard where there is no grass, it makes her listen to me more and she seems to be more responsive and more alert and she's been getting better each day! she seems to respond a lot better after i do those things with her, and she has been a lot better with not eating the grass while being led :) hope this works for you also! (sorry if it makes no sence its hard to explain lol)
