It’s so wonderful (especially in these times where the future of the world is being threatened by psychopaths), to see men and animals doing honest work. Thank you Robert for this dose of sanity and reality!

Bless their hearts, these horses are so willing to please. They are beautiful and gentle souls. I hate that while the gentlemen working with them don't appear to be super harsh in working them, they do treat them like they are just a machine. The way the driver directs the black horse over the logs each time, you know that horse has bruised pasterns. They are living creatures. Treat them as such.

Aren't thes horses fantastic? Who else but they who enjoy working and getting a project done well. So effective and reliable.

Such beautiful horses. Although I would not call this a difficult forest. In North america we call this a nicely manicured park.

The collars are so different than the collars that are used in the US. When I'm looking at old pictures of working horses, I know immediately when I'm looking at horses from the UK. because of the collars. In Australia, a lot less leather is used in the harness. It woud be interesting for a Belgian horseman to discuss the attributes of the collars. Then, I guess it would be interesting for horsemen from all over the world to share their viewpoints on traditional harness.

Great horses and very willing. In the future I hope to see that their replacements will be allowed to have long tails. The handlers are good, too.
@horatiohornblower8683 жыл бұрын
Klaus Karbaumer Cutting tails is forbidden in Belgium since 2001, but because horse growers massively got around that rule, the Constitutional Court reaffirmed the law in 2018. As a result horses with a so called "block" tail may not be inspected and cannot participate in competitions and exhibitions.

@@horatiohornblower868 Thank you for this information. I live in Missouri, USA, and unfortunately here in the States many draft horses are docked, too, albeit not quite so short. I have had horses for 57 seven years, in Germany and here, but never found it necessary to have them docked. But it is not easy to find drafts with long tails here.
@horatiohornblower8683 жыл бұрын
Klaus Karbaumer Most Belgium draft horses live in the USA. In fact the breed would have long been extinct if it was not bred massively by American farmers.

Handlers are really dumb! Anyone knows you get on and ride back up for the next load! Those great tough horses would hardly notice the weight.

Is the black horse a Belgian, too? they are both stunning, and such well trained logging horses.

Yes, it is a Belgian horse. 30 years ago, yje black coat color was rare in the Belgian breed, but now it is common. Look at my horse Gloria on KZfaq. She is also black.

Not very smart or thoughtful of the horse to have them trying to pull up onto a pile of logs like that way. Good way to injure the horse

No it’s getting rid of exotic tree species from a nature reserve. English is not the makers native language but if you feel you have to be a dick because he used the wrong word then so be it.

This really angers me , some geek cut the tail off the brown & white horse , now in the summer it has nothing to swat the flies with ! In fact all the horses have their tail hair cut clear off ! The hair of the tail should only be cut short enough to keep it out of the snow ! I know these things cause l logged with horses, in the 1950s in Canada summer & winter
