Great info. I am dealing with a spooky 6yr old gelding. He was from the city and never saw deer in the country or birds bursting from bushes. Your videos have helped me settle him down but still needs work.

So true. You have to allow the horse to make the mistake and then correct it. The horse has to choose. People often try to prevent the mistake, but then you're always in a fight with him. People also often don't fully "release". You have to give the horse freedom with a loose rein after the correction, and allow him to make a decision. Release means release, no contact, no pressure

I ride a well broke but spicy qh mare, she's big and powerful. I've had 3 scary wrecks in the distant past with other horses and I am trying to get past that fear with this mare. She is pretty spooky but so far we're managing ok. I love her so I've got to get better with my confidence and physical ability. Thank you for this video.

If you can't take your horse's head away at any time, you'll always be vulnerable to having a wreck. Get "control" of your horse.

I have a 6 yr old who in general is an easy ride and agreeable but he has a violent spook that can come out of the blue even at the end of a great ride. It's always a 180 spin and scoot so it's dangerous. Any times it happens at nothing. But sometimes I can see either a shadow or cat or something that causes the spook. Happens in the saddle and on the lunge the exact same way. He's a big warmblood. After he spooks he is lit like a lightbulb but before that a totally relaxed guy. I can lunge the energy out sometimes after he's set off but sometimes he never comes back down. I've been despooking him. He loves tarps and plastic bags on a stick, likes eating treats off the "spooky door.". Been at this for 6 months and each time I think he's gotten over it, bam! He pulls another dangerous spook. Currently happening in indoor arena. I work him at the safe end hard the let him rest at the spooky end. Thoughts?

Yes, I do have some thoughts on your problem. #1. Your horse isn't trained well enough to respond unquestioning to your hands. #2. You are not motivating your horse to not spook violently. He's not experiencing an consequences for his dangerous behavior. I recommend you get this training course: online.horsetrainingvideos.com/fix-bad-behavior/

Hi, did you manage to sort this? I have a 7 year old mare that is the same. They are so sharp and it's started making me ride cautiously because I'm just waiting for it to happen😢
@hallhv01
@hallhv01 Жыл бұрын
@@Christina-vp3nc the spook has really come down, yes. Here's what I found. First, he had gut issues going on. Once I had him at the same stable 2 years in a row I saw that in the spring he became difficult on the ground. Rearing, kicking when tacking or standing in the crossties. I figured out he needs a grazing muzzle. His gut could not tolerate the big sugar content of early spring lush grass. I did that this year and BAM a better horse like immediately. Another thing was I moved to a different stable for the winter and that meant I rode with multiple horses. That really helped his spook. At that stable there was no grass and he came down like 2 levels just by moving. Yes he still spooks but it's a lot less. For the most part I can see the mood upfront now and just avoid it.

Good but I would like some help with my horse she is good when your not riding,but when you are weather there are horses or not she is still trying to kick and trying to bit your shoes and try to take off. I'm only 10 so I can't do much with her but I need help with training but the price for someone to train one horse in a month or two it's ridiculous 😞😞😞

What if you have one who spooks at the entire perimeter of the arena no matter where you are? I’m working with a mustang mare who does this. I use the right thing easy/wrong thing hard method to solve one area in the arena but before I know it she’s looking for another place to spook at. We’ve had weeks where it seems like the problems have solved, and nothing will change outside of the arena, but the next week she’ll return to trying to spook at everything. I can’t wrap my head around why.

You mentioned that filly only had a couple rides, however, it appeared you had quite a handle on her. So was the couple of rides being broke for the first time, or being in your training program?

No, I said she has been ridden for a couple weeks... and she has the training of a horse with a couple weeks of riding. Not sure what you are trying to express.
