Hi Rick & Stacy. Always enjoy your show. If I told you how many times I moved my landscape shrubs & plants you’d be in shock. I’ve rearranged my entire garden this way. Not one has died. Also, I moved my rose bush to a more sunnier location. I did this in early Spring right after pruning. Was super easy. It bounced back beautifully. Now it’s fall, I’ve moved 7 shrubs in one day. I’ll be mindful with my lavenders in pots to keep them drier. TY❤

Yellowstone is amazing, don't let the fools fool you. Rick, Stacy, if you have not visited, it is the experience of a lifetime! You can leave the park with a better understanding of the beautiful American bison, even from a safe distance. And Rick, if you visit, you may come away with a pun poem in the key of cowboy poetry.

Since you're talking about "moving". . .it time for YOU to get "moving" too! First of all, I LOVE your show!! Informative and fun - I never miss an episode!! Now, as for "moving." I purchase sooo many Proven Winner plants from local growers and pick-up at Great Garden Plants that you can afford 1) A new table. Something round or with an angle so that conversations between the two of you look more comfortable/ relaxed. 2) A new backdrop that looks less stiff (why not showcase PW's household plants on racks? I'm sure you could find some live plants somewhere😅) 3) Higher chairs (aka news-anchor heighth). Not to worry: I'll remain a judge fan, and spread you names around the lands, EVEN if you don't embrace my sage advice.

Stacy, I would love to know what you find is the best for amending your sandy soil before planting.
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice 8 ай бұрын
It's okay to amend sandy soil, the amendment just needs to be thoroughly mixed with the natural soil. ☺

I am in zone 5b and when is the latest time to plant shrubs to have it safely survive the winter? Trying to take advantage of these plant sales in the garden center!

I personally have planted well into November in zone 5 with success. If the soil is well drained and you mulch at the base after planting you can get those bargains in the ground! 😊

Do you think covering inground lavender, rosemary, oregano plants to keep the winter moisture and cold off is best or would overwintering in my garage be better? I’ve harvested plenty but still don’t want to lose the plants. I’m only hesitant to move it because it’s looking so great but if I need to move it I will. Your professional opinion matters. Zone 8 Dallas, TX. Thank you in advance. 💐💐💐
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice 8 ай бұрын
In USDA zone 8, Dallas, you should have no trouble overwintering all of those plants outdoors without any protection. They are perfectly hardy in Dallas, and the winters are mild enough that winter wetness is unlikely to be a threat to any of those plants. ☺❤

Ok! You gave me several good reasons not to plant roses! Which I don’t have for the very issues you raised about not just moving them but pruning them. I know many gardeners who have these beautiful roses! And a hired gardener to care for them! Nice to see not for me! I have never heard you talk about tree peonies. Not sure pw has a species. Would like to know how to care for them. I have several. When I get a quart size perennial in fall I put it in my nursery section of my garden and move it in spring!

I have a hillside of Daylillies, can I add Cone flowers and Black-eyed Susan's in this area? The Daylillies are very established. I am wondering if the roots, rhizomes will kill the other types of plants? I too, am moving my plants around. My husband thinks that I am crazy, but I am not satisfied with the appearance during the summer months.
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice 8 ай бұрын
Great question! With your daylilies being so established, it does sound like it would be hard for the cone flowers and black-eyed Susans to compete in that space.

What about oberwintering lavender in pots on my garage?
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice 8 ай бұрын
The biggest threat to trying to overwinter lavender in pots is that the center will freeze and that can cause moisture to back up around the roots, leading to deadly root and crown rot. For best results, place the container in a spot where it won't get dripped on by a roof or tree line, and do your best to avoid wet soil during cold weather, especially in fall and late winter when the temperatures are low but the ground is not frozen.

So sad to see! The key is to make the entire window look like a barrier to birds, using things like window decals, some people use tempera paint or soap. ☺

Greeting from New Jersey. I have 3 Italian ice Oso easy roses… they all have fungal diseases. I have been spraying without success. I’m ready to take them out….. what else should I do ? I’m in zone 6B . Help… 😮 Thanks.
@youbetcha108
@youbetcha108 8 ай бұрын
Sometimes fungal disease comes from lack of aeration between the plants. That happens to my peonies. Maybe try separating them and giving them lots of dry sun. But try not to use chemical sprays. If you have to do that I would take them out. I do not like to do chemical sprays. If I have spraying done it’s only by a professional. My garden plants are not sprayed.

This is good advice - we'd also add that it's a good idea to clean up all the foliage once it drops in autumn, as both powdery mildew and black spot spores will overwinter on the fallen infected foliage, where it can readily reinfect the plant the following spring when the new growth hasn't yet developed its protective cuticle.
