It was recorded LIVE she was there doing motion capture, no rules of the first take were broken, she sang live with no filters or edits just her voice in one take, many people criticized this without knowing, they tried to make Suisei less for being a Vtuber but they were not complaining about her singing, she is a great singer and she deserves to be there and be the first Vtuber to do it, Hololive is full of beautiful voices.

To answer a few questions: Yes she is in a mocap setup that also have face tracking. Her agency is mainly a tech company for designing stuff for Virtual entertainment, and 3d tracking is something they've done for a while now. So yes, everything you see animated is reflective of her real self. While normally she has a 2d animated model on her streams, there is of course this 3d model that she has for lives and concerts, which she has quite a few available to watch on her own youtube. Also, as far as the fear that comes with "the first take", after the premiere she hosted a twitter space answering some things in regards to the recording. Apparently she never knew it was actually "one take only" up until before she got on the mic. She was nervous, especially as she was concerned with the pressure of being a "virtual singer" among all the other well known artists on this stage, but her management recommended she go in and skip the warmup and just get right into the singing to "shut up all the negativity with your voice", and judging by your expression it did well enough to blow away your expectations from the get go. Funny enough the guitarist, who's also the music composer for the original, was even more nervous as his guitar was also a live recording.

For the lyrics, she wrote it herself. The guitarist is a famous Japanese producer, Taku Inoue. Inotaku-san also act as her producer. Her 2nd album, Spectre, will be dropping soon on January 25th. She's already a big content creator with 1.7mil subs, had several concerts, and definitely a big name in the vtuber scene. But for a vtuber to be invited to The First Take, that's such a big deal.

Suisei is a vtuber who can do anything. You name it: games, drawings, singing, chatting. Due to this trait that she has had a harsh past as the IRL-idol agency deems her as a "jack of all trade and master of none" which is why she became a vtuber to persue her dream in being an idol. Props for being one of the few to immediately recognize that it was mocap! Recommend you check out the original MV for Stellar Stellar, it's a lot more orchestral and has some crazy instrumentals. Suisei has a pretty large discography, would love to see you listen to some of her other songs.

Welcome new friend! Suisei wrote the lyrics and the gentleman playing the guitar wrote the original and this special acoustic instrumentals. He was actually worried he would make a mistake and mess her up. Suisei didn't actually think it was truly one take until they were there about to record. Hence the nervous breath at the start and end.

She smashed it. Vtubers are becoming more popular because, quite frankly, people care about privacy more now and also you get a bit more artistic freedom with a vtuber model.

Great reaction! Your comments on Suisei's range, pitch, and head vs. chest voice are on point. I also think the timbre of Suisea's voice is unique and perfect for the song. When she expresses emotion with that unique sound, it's amazing. She did a great job with the dynamics as well, soft passages vs. loud, as another way to convey emotion. Definitely follow along with the lyrics while she sings, since it's an emotional autobiographical story.

Before The First Take announced for Suisei's song, the Vtuber company Cover has also announced to corporate with Sony new motion capture system - mocopi, which just 5 sensors on head, waists and legs. The movement of Suisei from this The First Take video seem using mocopi. As you know Sony own The First Take which will provide technical support for this new technology.

Suisei talked a little bit about this performance on a twitter stream. basically she thought the first take thing was part of the kayfabe. They wouldnt risk all tose mainstream artists making an embarassing mistake right? So she was surprised it was indeed only one take. She wasnt really nervous about herself (her fans would just meme a mistake), but was afraid of badly representing virtual singers overall.

Suisei is great! Gotta echo the other comments and definitely recommend checking out the MVs for stuff like Stellar Stellar, GHOST, TEMPLATE. Might want to look into the new album Spectre and her upcoming concert as well. She's a very hard worker and makes some fantastic stuff. Also yeah the lyrics are super important. A lot of the songs are pretty personal. If you want to dig in beyond Suisei - her group Hololive has a lot of talent in it, original songs, albums of music, concerts in real life venues, crazy MVs, etc. I'd recommend checking out "My Song" from Watame and Palette or FACT from Towa, but there are a lot of people in there beyond this. Like I said several of the talents have around an album or more of music. Some of them sing almost weekly on stream as well, so yeah it's really common in Hololive. (The one you saw streaming is Flare and she's in Hololive's 3rd generation on the JP side.)

Recently Sony release a new mocap tech called Mocopi, it's like just some bracelets/belt/bangle, you wear on your body, so you don't even need the whole body suit that we usually see in filming industry. I guess it's what they used here for TFT, consider TFT also under Sony.

You should listen to other vtubers' songs, they are talented, I have a recommendation for the song ALiCE&u by Ayunda Risu, she is in the same agency as Suisei

The funny thing is she really isn’t a ‘singing streamer’. She sings on stream, sure, but most of her streams are gaming. And her gaming skills are at times just as impressive as her voice. In particular she’s basically a Tetris pro and has proven herself as the best Mario Kart player in Hololive with two wins in their annual tournament, besting dozens of other streamers. That said, singing is of course a major pursuit of hers and perhaps the thing she’s most passionate about.

For this particular episode of TFT, it's important for Suisei because it's not just herself that she's representing. She's the first vtuber to ever appear on TFT, so she was representing the entire vtubing community. She knew this, and was nervous because of the fact that she didn't want to let everyone down with her one chance. Also, another important detail is that the guitarist is Inotaku, who also produced the song, so he was actually more nervous than she was. He didn't want to screw it up and throw off her performance. She also commented in a twitterspace that they skipped the pre performance warm up on camera because they all knew that she'd get a lot of criticism just by being on TFT. Management and the producers figured the best way to shut them up is with her music, so they went straight into it.

I'm glad you found the stunning voice of our cute shooting star, diamond in the rough, idol Vtuber Hoshimachi Suisei! While she is an excelent singer, it's not all she does, she also sreams live, plays games, goofs off with her friends that are part of the same company. So, yeah she sings this good while not actually being a full time "professional" singer. I hope you explore more of her music and the music of the other extremely talented members of Hololive.

Came back to comment that the Vtuber you noticed was live looks to be Flare. She is from the same agency as Suisei. Admittedly I don't know much about Flare (I'm probobly spelling her name wrong too) so I can't recommend anything from her specifically. But if you search Hololive music, you can't go wrong with any of the results.

Hololive is a bit different from other Vtuber agencies, because they do tend to pick up talent who are decent singers. This is because Hololive leans into the idol culture you find in Jpop/Kpop. Hololive puts on yearly concerts which feature appearances of all or nearly all their members, and some members also put on solo concerts. However singing is not the only skill they value highly. First and foremost their members are variety streamers, playing video games, chatting with viewers, drawing, singing and so-on. Many of the English members speak Japanese at some level (some fluent or near fluent, while others may not yet be able to hold a conversation), one English member's native language is German, and she also happens to speak Japanese fluently enough to translate for members. Their Indonesian members typically speak English fairly fluently along with Indonesian, and often Japanese as well. Many members are also accomplished artists. Several members have provided artwork for video games, for example. Suisei also has an exceptional story of how she got into hololive in the first place. Originally she was independent, using a model she made herself. If I recall correctly she was rejected by hololive several times before finally convincing them to pick her up. Typically when someone joins hololive, they must leave their old persona behind and use a new avatar, however Suisei was able to convince them to allow her to keep her persona (something nobody else has done). She was originally picked up as part of a music label under the same parent corporation as hololive, which had originally existed solely for another member Azki (who is considered a vsinger, as she did not stream much initially, and mostly recorded music instead). However it seems that the label was overwhelmed and unable to provide the funding or support Suisei needed to really release music at the pace and quality she wanted. Eventually she was dropped from the label and joined hololive directly. Later the label was dissolved and Azki also joined hololive as a regular member. Since then she has released quite a few original songs and covers, eventually catching the attention of Taku Inoue (seen in this video on guitar). He is best known for his work on the Idolmaster anime. He reached out to hololive to work with Suisei, inviting her to be a part of a collaborative project known as Midnight Grand Orchestra, and has also written music for her solo songs such as Stellar Stellar.

Modern motion capture suits don’t require the balls anymore. Modern ones use the dots printed on the suit making it easier to move and less of a hassle.
