To this day the best silk press i ever got was from my cousin, who was a big hairstylist in Chicago back in the day. It was about 12 years ago. He was no longer doing hair at that point except as a hobby as he moved on to a different career. We were all in town for his sister's graduation and I was the only family member that didn't have weave in or a wig on so when he said he wanted to do someone's hair, I was the only option. I tried to get out of it by saying I had soccer practices almost every day and would sweat it out in less than a week. He bet me it would last a month even with my exercise. I accepted that bet and let him do it. I called him a month later and let him know he won. It probably could have lasted longer but its rare I go a month without washing my hair (usually I did 2 weeks). He also used a hot comb and explain to me and my mom his process but I've been able to mimick it fully with the same results.

I love press and curls. That's all I used to get back in the day. On Saturday nights I would get my hair shampooed and conditioned. Then it would get plaited up & the next day it would be dry. Next step would be to press it out then curl with the marcels on the stove. It would be shiny & the curls would stay in for 2 weeks. Those were the good old days.

My grandma did my sister’s hair like this when we were kids. I remember she had a hot comb just like the one you’re using. Man, so long ago but so fresh in my memories. You’re very good at what you do. God bless.

Totally love how you know her hair. Most stylists don't take their time. They just turn the heat up on the blow dryer and flat iron and their clients still end up with an afro with minutes after leaving the salon.

Hi watched from Ireland found this fascinating , i have typical Irish hair fair curly and feisty ....my mum used to curl us girls hair like this every sat night for Mass on sunday ...my sister had beautiful auburn bouncy curls , i ended up like an Irish Shirley Temple!
