I usually pull from the side where the plate clips are.

Has anyone have a problem with the base??? The top part doesn’t fit in the bottom. I believe there’s a manufacturing problem.. am I the only one?

Yeah, it doesn't fit mine perfectly. But I've seen it fit for others. I think there's a defect in some of them.
