Hot Weather Riding Tips for Motorcyclists

It's summertime and the heat is on. It feels hotter this year than the previous and so i felt the time is right for me to pass along my experience of riding in one of the hottest areas on the planet, the great state of Florida. This week I offer tips from my experience and reasearch on how to ride safely in high heat conditions.

Trying to wear my mesh jacket, but, next trying to at least wear long sleeve( fishing shirt) w uv protection? Love summer, but melting sometimes!

I’m with ya. I rode with my mesh jacket the first 2 summers, now it’s my CanvasMX or similar with the D30 undershirt for same protection or an athletic fit undershirt if I choose less protection. Thank you for your comments.

You've got to explain the tires losing grip on hot pavement. You're the first person I've ever heard say that. Only time I've heard this, and experienced this, is at the race track. and those tire temperatures far exceed what you would ever experience on the road. And therefore, reaching even higher temps than normal on the race track. Strictly talking about tire grip, tires lose grip from the carcass not being up to temperature, air pressure, and the tires losing their oil from aging (especially in direct sunlight).

Most tire and brake issues in hot environments are related to improper inflation levels and deformation of the brake pad. Tire pressure can grow and a tires elasticity can lead to deformation. Because friction coefficient is changed in heat brakes can be less effective at higher temperatures. You should always refer to your tire manufacturer’s recommendations for care and maintenance. -source Dunlop

@KennyQuestShow Your statement in your video is quite vague and misleading, as you gave no explanation and education. Most people don't check their tire pressure. And most will never come close to a point of overheating their brakes on the road. Some clarification would be good.
