I remember taking my crackups to show and tell in first grade. I was nervous to talk in front of the class and cried a bit. But I loved those crackups.

Wow! I had COMPLETELY FORGOT about the 1 little car that would get "damaged " every time I launched into other cars, toys, or simply, the wall! Thank you RetroBlasting for bringing those wonderful memories from whence they were hidden. ... but with those fond memories came the memory of being spanked for chipping the paint & making tiny holes in the wall. Still, good times!

I think they somewhat revived this line in the late 90s too, I remember owning something similar where you could "crash" the cars and they would split down the middle to reveal molded damage.

If anything these could be seen as discouraging kids from crashing a real car. "See that damage? Would you want to be in there when that happened?"

I got given two of these as a kid growing up in Oman, a front end and a rear end, with plastic bonnet and hood not metal, to hold back the rotating metal "crashed" panels. I was so excited to get them as the latest addition to my huge toy car collection that I took them into school with me to show them to my friends. Unfortunately a boy stole them off me. I was obviously upset and told the teacher. She told me off for lying "because those are boys toys and you're a girl, obviously they belong to him." I was understandably distraught. Fortunately when my parents came to pick me up from school they managed to get them back for me and must have given the teacher an earful as well. They indulged my love of toy cars (which grew into a lifelong love of real ones) and never tried to persist in forcing me to play with baby dolls which I hated.

I still find that 1977 Smokey & the Bandit Special Trans-Am to this day it has made it through countless moves & storage spaces and considering it's age and just plain old being rough on my Hot Wheels as a kid it's still in pretty good condition. Oh yeah I even found that @ one time I had 3 of 'em each in different states of wear & tear! Anyway just wanted to chime in on this. As i got excited when you showed off your Old Hot Wheels that had survived your childhood! Stay safe guys!

Thank you so much for this video you have given me the satisfaction of finally knowing I'm not crazy and I did actually have toy cars that could do crash damage. The thing is I like almost every little boy had alot of toy cars but where I grew up in the UK we only really had matchbox or at a push majorette but I always remembered having a yellow car with red flames that you could crash and the door would flip. I just assumed it was an oddball nothing Chinese thing that was somehow amazingly good to play with but now thanks to your video I know exactly what it was and I'm buying one from eBay. Sorry for the long message but I do really appreciate finally knowing what one of my favourite childhood toys was. Retroblasting is never a disappointment. Once again thank you.

I remember them as a kid. Too bad they were pretty expensive back then and my parents didn't have the money to buy me all the cars I would like. So I took a hammer and delicately smashed a few toy cars I already owned like they would be crashed in real life. You couldn't "reset" them but I didn't mind. My parents didn't see it the same way thou. Fortunately my mom managed to stop me in time before i demolished my complete collection of cars :D and nowadays I am buying those toy cars from various sellers so I can replace my damaged collection for my kid. Fortunate for me they cost a fraction of what they used to be back in the days :D
