It's kinda funny, that you take old, beaten up cars and restore them to new look, and then take new cars and beat them up, to look post-apocalyptic :D Don't misunderstand it, I really love the look of these used, aged things, i'm in love with them, it's just the irony that i feel in this. Love your vids, i only found you, but i feel like you're my kind of youtuber

The reason it's called shoebox is because this casting is based off a 1949-51 Ford which were nicknamed shoebox Fords after their design.

I'm 63 now....my interests lay more towards outdoor pursuits and when indoors, decoys and general woodworking. But there was a time decades ago, my brothers and I would work model kits....in between playing with Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. In fact, I still have mine and all of theirs---close to 200 cars including original 1968 Redlines...I can't tell you how much I enjoy watching and listening to your videos....so calming and Zen like. Hmmmm....wonder if the wife would support me tackling this hobby? (I don't think I'll ask) Keep it up, amigo!

The term “shoebox” commonly refers to the full-sized Chevrolet sedans offered during a three-year period of 1955 through 1957. Chevrolet, through the top tier Bel Air and its corresponding 150 and 210 lower-trim models, made such an indelible mark on the current and future car culture, that the venerable shoeboxes of the mid-1950s survive today as popular as the ’32-through-’34 Ford roadsters among customizers, hot rodders and performance lovers.

A term first applied to the 1949 Ford (the first new major postwar car design) , "shoebox" denoted a body style with streamlined fenders that, from above, resembled a "shoebox".

I feel like the dent effect might be better achieved with some more primitive methods. I found that putting the body in a container with small rocks and shaking it can have a nice natural dent look, and gently bending the roof can make it look like it's been damaged without destroying the fit

Its called a "Shoebox" because it is a model of a late 40's early 50's Ford sedan that was nicknamed "shoebox".

"Shoe box" is a 1949 Ford. The 1948,1949,and 1950 Fords like these were called "shoe box Fords" because of the way they look.My neighbor owns a 1950 "shoe box" Ford.

Shoebox was when car styling changed from the late 30's and 40's having fenders that bulged out from the body, to the smooth sides, but before the tail fin fad kicked in. Some people liked it, others felt it lacked style. The term stuck with some models more than others.
