Hotel Review - Best Western Grant Park, Chicago IL

First things first, obviously the "horror movie" thing is exaggerated. Granted, the public areas of the hotel were in pretty poor shape and looked fairly creepy, but the portion of the video made to look like a horror movie trailer is just a joke. Anyway, back when I was in Chicago for a conference in February, I was provided accommodations at this hotel. I wasn't impressed at all. Along with the creepy public areas of the hotel, I was given a room that had an awful mix of musty, stale air and cigarette odor. I then moved to a second room that didn't have the cigarette odor (though it still smelled a bit musty). However, the second room also had some basic maintenance issues. Until they renovate the property (and the manager says that they're about to start), I'd stay away from this property if possible. That being said, it's still doable.

The water by the window would condensation. Creepy place but that bed looked very comfortable.

I stayed here about 6 years ago. It seemed really nice, then. The beds were indeed super comfortable. Love the location and views from higher floors. Sorry to hear about these issues. Maybe it has been renovated recently? Seems like someone else mentioned that. I also loved the old "hobbie building" view across the street. A throwback in time!

I suspect that the water is not coming from a leak, but rather condensation forming on poorly sealed windows and metal frames. This happens in my condo building when it gets really cold out. Sometimes the condensation will freeze and form a frost on the window frames. That is probably why the curtain was stuck in the first room.

After looking at some branding pictures form post-renovation, it appears that one of the elevators got removed completely. There's an empty spot where it used to be.

I often get so frustrated with Hotel owners minutes before checkout Calling Or Standing @ my door banging / YELLING "You've got five minutes to vacate or we're going to charge you for another night"

Well, if they liked Best Westerns then they should have chose the one down the street from me. It is SO much nicer then this one. (I'm dead serious.) As a whole, Best Westerns seem pretty unpredictable. I've stayed in some really nice one's and i've stayed in some one's that absolutely suck. And your awesome intro gave me a really good idea 'bout some hotel tour footage of a Best Western that's just sitting on my laptop as we speak, so thank you for that. Also I kid you not I remember we actually almost stayed here about 10 years ago. Glad we didn't lol! Nice fucking mini pillows too. Grade=C-

This is kind of a disappointment-and I'm from Chicago. I'm considering taking my girlfriend downtown for a show in December, and I guess I'm not staying here. Sorry you had a poor experience with lodging in my city!

What can you expect from Best Western? You should consider yourself lucky, that seems like a more upscale Best Western compared to the others.

i was very close to buying a room here last summer really wish grabbed the hampton cause the red roof in had so much mold that it irritated my tonsils where i had to go to the hospital 2 days later

The Essex Inn is only a block or two north of here, much nicer, and their rack rates are about $50 less. I wonder how this place gets away with this...

the water on the windows isn't leaking in its from condensation forming on the cold window and running down. likely they are old windows that are not insulated properly. In the first room it was so bad it was turning into ice and the curtain was frozen to it.

Ross Craig-Browne The exterior of this place looked terrible during the day, and I'd be willing to bet that the windows are original to the property (from the 60's). Wonder if they have any plans to address this issue when they renovate. It would be a pretty expensive fix.

JoshCraver9000 I was surprised too, but most of the recent reviews are in the 1-3 star range from what I could see. They've just let the property go too long between renovations. They really needed to renovate around 5 years ago. Place looks way too dated and creepy for the Best Western name.

+The Elevator Channel To my knowledge, Best Western doesn't have any standards. It is really a hit or miss on how the hotel is. That is why they are all over the place.

I am not a fan of the 4100U or ES I do like the 4004, 4005, 4006, 4002, 4001, 2001, and 4010, 4020, and 4208

Deangelo Harrington it depends on which one. Best Westerns are all franchises meaning they are all privately owned and operated. That’s why there is such a difference in different Best Westerns. I’ve stayed at Best Westerns, and they’re all very different.
