We've generally enjoyed our time with Alienware Aurora gaming PCs, including the recent Aurora R15. The previous model maintained Alienware's commitment to UFO-looking aesthetics but that's all changed with the R16. This time around, Alienware has gone with a much more traditional desktop PC look, filled to the brim with the latest CPUs from Intel and GPUs from NVIDIA. Great review ! many thanks for sharing. I've ordered the same config, but with 1000W PSU . It could be overkill. Unfortunately they were not offering 600-750W PSUs.

That's fine, it just means the PSU will be taking it easy even if the system demands lots of power when it wants it. A few days ago I ordered a similar R16 config (i9-13700F + 4070) and also opted for the 1000W with water-cooling - not because the system needs it, but hopefully the 4080 or 4090 will come down in price at some point in the distant future and I'll be able to upgrade to it if I want. The proprietary power connectors for the PSU to the motherboard on the R16 would make it a pain to source an upgraded PSU aftermarket, so it avoids a future problem. :)

Great Video Ben, this video is so good I have viewed it more than once. I ordered the configuration with 1000 watt power supply and 4070TI and 16GB Ram . Before it came , I ordered RGB Ram 32GB from Newegg. I thought I was ordering DDR5 5600. When the ram came It was DDR5 6400 (PC5 51200) (TeamGroup). I also ordered an NVME SSD 1GB for the second storage. The Aurora R16 from Dell and the items ordered from Newegg came the same day. When I saw the Ram was not what I thought I ordered (5600) ,I got a little apprehensive. Anyway I decided to install the ram before I turned on the PC and see what happens. It powered up and I was logging in Windows 11. Then shutdown and installed the NVME SSD (TeamGroup). Initailized it and shutdown again to bring over hard drives full of games from my old custom built AMD FX8350 PC . It was long overdue for me to have a PC upgrade LOL. I istalled a 5TB Toshiba 3.5 in internal bay . Attached are 16TB WD easystore, 4TB Passport. I am Happy with my Alienware purchase of the AuroraR16.

Everyone complaining are tech enthusiasts - pc’s like this are WAY past anything the regular gamer would need! I’m a developer and that’s a demanding process, and this computer is still top tier

No it’s not. Try to fix or replace any of its Dell proprietary parts with aftermarket. It simply not worth the investment on any of these PC towers. You can build one with better specs, cheaper and 100% looking better.

Living in the UK, there doesn't seem to be much of a premium to alienware compared to alternatives, ofcourse building your own will always be a lot cheaper, but for people like me who want to customize their pc and have a pro built it, it's a good choice, especially because nobody has top tier customer service like alienware.

Honestly Dell messed up really bad by changing completely the appearance of the original Alienware. They changed what differentiated from the rest and turned these into a XPS, optilex or Precision towers If it wasn’t because of the RGB on the side, it would just be another ordinary tower.

I need some help with mine after 3 month of use. Start getting me some troubles, games close and crash with no error on the screen browser lost connection, and some apps don open at all. Y check everything ejecutes all type of scan and all hardware was perfect i tried to reinstall the windows version and an another windows too but the problem still there. Someone can help me??

Not unless it springs a leak. Probably wouldn’t hurt to put new thermal paste on the CPU every few years though. I have a 10 year old Alienware cooler that I’ve never done anything to.

This is definitely an improvement over Aura. However, there are some things rhey missed that I consider major oversights at this price category. 🚫 RAM Heatsink 🚫 NVME Heatsink 🚫 Extra DIMM Slots I'm actually OK with the PSU, motherboard and case being non-standard. That just makes sense for Dell. They should reuse the tooling that's already at work for Optiplex etc.

I'm more worried about the history of reliability or lack thereof. Replacing a motherboard isn't a concern if you don't need to replace it...

Just got one today with a 4080 super. Trying to set up but can’t find that menu where you change the colours and also I connected an optical cable from the port to my Denon receiver but cannot get any sound and the pc does not find the receiver.. wondering why there is these sockets if I can’t use them. Must be a simple thing I’m not doing !

not sure but from experience i used a rtx 3070 for over a year on a 550w psu worked fine only upgraded it when i got the 4070

yes a 4060 will run fine just dont use max settings or lower the resolution on some games as its more for 1080p

I get it. But I did not have that much cash on hand to purchase parts, but do have 7000 credit limit from Dell so I got the Aurora R16 . Have not bought a prebuilt since I had an Emachine in the late 90's🤣🤣. I wanted to replace my old custom built AMD FX8350 that was long in the tooth 😁

You will need to add PSU an a good case. And cooling should be good enough (liquid based cooling is a must), otherwise your PC will be very noisy. In general, I do agree that it is possible to make some savings, but not a lot.

I bought a R14 about a year ago. I hate it. I'm 52, I have always been a tech guy but never got into gaming. I wanted to try DCS and love it. It's not really a game. When you have to read a 400-page USAF manual to learn how to fly, it's not a game. But I digress. My R14 works fine. I have the R 7 5800x with a RX6700XT and 64 gigs of DDR4. What I hate is the dell software cuts the performance of everything. The kingston 3400 ram is cut down to 2200. If you OC the ram dell only allows you to take it up to 3200. The cpu is restricted the same way. And if you go around the Alienware software you void the entire warranty on the PC not just that part.

Beware of the Dell RAM SCAM! If you did NOT receive your R16 with XMP ram, I suggest you give them a call and let them know that you're unimpressed with being sent sub-par hardware....I see they got you too!

@@Anth230 exactly...have fun setting up drivers, updating the BIOS, getting Windows 11 to work. My time is a bit more valuable than $200-$300 for "piecing it out and building myself"

⁠⁠@@EnglishVibes331also the warranties are on each specific part, so if there was a problem you’d have to go through the troubleshooting process of testing and diagnosing each part. I’m quite impressed by the R16 as it’s much better value for money than previous Alienware desktops. You also get a premium quality case, PSU and CPU cooler.
