Күн бұрынHi folks! Today I will be showing you the INCREDIBLE new Hotone Ampero II Stage! It is an incredibly powerful Amp modeller, effects unit, looper, and its optimisation for live performance. It has many more functions which I will show you in this video!
The Ampero II Stage is also Bluetooth ready now so you can edit the patches and parameters via your phone or tablet or via the desktop software.
It is an absolute powerhouse of tone and it has really impressed me with its versatility and tones! And for the first time on an Ampero, it has Scenes which gives you access to many more tonal variations while playing live and seamless switching between tones and effects!
In this video I will give you an overview of the unit, play you a track on which I have a very special guest playing some solos - guitarist extraordinaire Leon Todd! I will then show you how the Scenes work, how it sounds with my own favourite overdrive pedals, and I will even show you how to create press patches and scenes with the amazing touch screen!

Hey @jayguitar I was wondering if you had any ideas on how I can get my Ampero expression pedal to work with my Ampero 2 Stage? I’m using a TRS to connect, I’ve calibrated it a few times and I still can get it to work with wah or volume or anything. Do you have any ideas on how I can get it to work? I literally just bought this device.

Incredible unit, and of course once again incredible video Jay. It’s been a while since I’ve been interested in processor units, but this one exceeds any expectation that I could ever think that would be in a pedal board unit. Oh very cool! He’s a really awesome guy! It was fun working with him for sure. Yes intelligent pitch shift would be fantastic. There is a pitch shifter in there which is pretty good - a friend of mine has been using the Ampero pitch shifter live so that he can use one guitar during a set and it has worked for him. thanks for the review. For the older ampero II stomp users the major problem with this new unit is that a lot of its features were missed promised updates for the II Stomp. Those "future updates" were never delivered. Ampero II Stomp are waiting for scenes and gapless transitions effects for more than an year now. The terrible stomp mode switch that terrifies everybody that use the unit to play live are also a promised fix. Both units share the same DSP power but Hotone support was really bad and never delivered what is being promised.

Hey dude, I’m sorry to hear that happened with the Ampero Stomp! I had no idea and I can understand your frustration. Seems like they have integrated all of that into the Stage. Doesn’t fix the issues with the Stomp - but sounds like they focused on the new unit rather then updating the Stomp. Hopefully they will still bring those changes to the Stomp as it’s still a great unit and has the same/similar processing power 🤞🤞🤞Have a great day.

The Ampero II Stage and Hotone Pulze are total Home Runs. I've got both and they are best in class competing with units 2/3X the price. I've had the Stage for about 2 weeks and the thing keeps impressing. Finally tried a Mic into the 2nd Input and the Guitar & Mic works excellent

I purchased one a couple weeks ago. I’ve had a few of these types of modelers and effects units I play in two bands and have a recording studio with vocal booth and drum room We practice here quite a bit also. So I received this unit after already having the Ampero 2 Stomp. This is a very nice upgrade. I also prefer this much more than my Helix, which I just sold. The larger touchscreen verses the Stomp screen is nice as is the Bluetooth , included drums and metronome function The phone app is great, and on iPad also. The editor is much easier to grasp than HX Edit and I really like that whatever effect or amp you look at there is a description of what it is, what controls it has and what it was modeled after … very helpful. This unit for me anyway is the easiest and fastest unit I’ve had for producing great tones The effects also respond and sound as you would think they should. I have streamed backing tracks through the Stage and played along which is very easy with the Bluetooth. Hotone is getting better with updates also. One in Dec 23 for the Sromp and already one for the Stage this year. People bitch about how come no scenes for the Stomp in the last update. Well….. how come no additional snapshots on the HX Stomp to catch up with the Helix. Give it a rest. Two different pieces of gear in both cases. One was designed for this and the other for that. Ones a flagship the other is entry level.

@@jayguitarThanks so much J. The Stage continues to impress. I did my first patch yesterday with the band having an electric and an acoustic plugged into the Stage. I made a preset for acoustic and Hotone’s Acoustic Preamp is great. Plugged in my Martin and did a tune written by our singer , and she also plays acoustic Sounded great. Push of a button and onto the next preset which engages the electric guitar and off we went to doing an SRV cover So now I just figured out … and I could be late for the party but ….. electric guitar on input 1 … vocal mic on input 2 (XLR) and acoustic guitar going into the return jack of the effects loop. Now setting up presets that use either electric guitar and vocal or acoustic and vocal I sing a couple covers in the band but I’m not the best singer so I’m making use of the pitch correction in the Stage. What an awesome piece a kit !!!! Thank you J !!!!! Your video has such great energy and I love the thing with Leon also. Been watching him for awhile now. I also checked his vid on the Stage as well. Great video! But the only thing missing from all the demos I’ve seen is for someone to go through all the amps so we can hear how they sound. That’s the only thing stopping me from buying one at the moment

Hey dude, I do get where you’re coming from but very tricky as there are 87 amps, 60 something off cabs. The numerous combinations would make is too long a video. Then there is the gain level of each amp! Anyways, endless possibilities, which is why I imagine nobody has done it 😊🙏🏽🤟🏽 Have an awesome day!

Hey dude, thats a great Q - if you're looking for better tones with higher definition and more functionality then definitely its worth considering the upgrade. In all honesty, since getting the Ampero II Stomp, I haven't used the MP100 🙏 Hoe that helps. Have an awesome day!

Looks and sounds like an instant buy to me Jay! Is it possible to put 2 different amp blocks into one preset? I'd love to be able to go from a fender clean to a marshall dirty using scenes to avoid those annoying dropouts most units like this tend to have when changing patches traditionally.

It’s great! I am loving it! Especially the scenes. Yes, it’s possible to add two amps. I just tried it and set up the Scenes really easily. Fender Deluxe as one amp in Scene 1. Mesa MKIV in Scene 2. Then Scene 3 can be set up for the Mesa and a boost pedal, etc. You just have to make sure you add both amps in Scene 1 and then switch one amp on, one off, etc. Only limitation is the CPU power but like I said, I was able to set it up - I had the AI Gate, boost pedal, Fender amp, Mesa, EQ, IR block for cab, delay and reverb in my Patch. What's the difference between this and the 2? Because I'd like to be able to do some stereo ambient at home, some recording, and have some small live use, what is the benefit of the stage? Because I can get the foot switches either way, so is it one little computer in 3 different boxes? (Mini, Stomp, & Stage)

Great Q - well, the Ampero II Stomp and Stage share the same guts essentially (probably a few tweaks in the Stage) - the Mini is actually based on the original Ampero MP100 platform rather than the II platform so it has a different engine and sound set. Difference between Stomp and Stage are the extra footswitches, the Scenes mode which is only available on the Stage, and the extra I/Os. Sound engine is the same as the Stomp. Stage is more practical for live use. Stomp is great for live but has its limitations with switching and outputs compared to Stage. Stage has been optimised recently so that the IR and Cab block can be switched off at either left or right output so you can run it into an FRFR speaker or power amp and cab. Stomp doesn't have that function (as far as I know). Hope that helps. Have an awesome day.

Is it possible to one I/O in an FX loop & the other I/O in front of an amp simultaneously?

Good Q - the signal can be split off to different outputs (e.g. dual chain config with the first chain going to the unbalanced outputs and the second chain could be set up for the signal to output from the FX Send) so in theory it is possible to do. I have set the unit up like that but with a Y-A/B chain set up where one output goes to front of house, and the second output goes to a guitar amp/cab without the IR engaged. So i have a question . So there are scenes now on ii stage But my question Is also can set different parameter on each scnes ? Likr scnes 1 i want my delay 45% mix but in scenes 2 it reduces to 25% ? Or the scenes only works for on/off the effect ??

Did they improve the LOOPER? On the Amp. II you could only have one sound- so no Clean, then a Dirty overdub or vice versa. Drove me nuts. Returned it. Is the DSP and Tones improved over the II or are they the same, only more of them? I liked the Cleans on the II, not so much the dirty. On KZfaq it sounds good but in person not so much. I use studio monitors, not power cabinets.

Hey dude, I have no idea about the looper as to be completely honest I never use loopers 🙏🏽 the sound set is as far as I understand the same as Ampero II Stomp and DSP as well. It does start to run out when using a lot of effects. Hope that helps. Have an awesome day!

@@UTAH100Yes, you can use different patches sounds with the looper. Just make sure the pre/post switch is on "post". The Ampero II Stomp had this as well.

@@GallowayJesse I had not idea- thanks. So you can record a clean track, then dub over it using heavy distortion. Have you done this? Where is the pre/post switch located? Physical button or in the looping software section?

You're most welcome. Glad it was helpful. Try out the Celection IRs that are built in first. If you're looking for a metal tone then maybe the Celestion v30 IR - you can also try the Hotone Cabs, especially the Deizel, Mesa and Bogner inspired cabs as they might give you the tone that you like 😊 Hope that helps. Thank you for responding again. I right click on patch left click import, find the .prst. Won't load. Still stock. IDK, even saw it on a video. Ir's from several sources including the Hotone Christmas package lol. Might get a Boss ir-2 to mix with it. Or budget a Kemper. Have a great day!

Great review, great job! ....but the unit still sounds like a cheaper multi effects and its far behind equipment like Fractal, Helix, Quad Cortex...maybe the effects, specially modulation, are ok sounding but the amps and drives need to improve a lot. Again thanks for the good review!

Hey dude, my experience has been different. I much prefer the sounds of the Ampero to the Helix and I think it does sound higher end then the more cost effective units, especially the amp models. The Fractal, yes light years ahead of anything else that it out there, but I think the Ampero does a good job 😊 But I also appreciate that we all hear these units with our own ears. @@jayguitar Hey buddy, yeah, that a great point you mentioned in the end. I currently own a Helix and Fractal, never owned the Ampero so I'm only based on several reviews I've been watching on KZfaq and I do think the amps on it still don't sound up there with the best ones but I'll have to test one myself to get the right feeling of playing through it. I do think the project is great, touch screen and offered functions so there's a lot of potencial to develop.....Thanks man and have a great one!

Not true that Ampero 2 products are way behind A-Tier. John Cordy has videos of the Ampero Stomp 2 against the QC and AXE 3 and it's basically right there. I have a Kemper Stage and FM3 and they are a hair better, but by how much in tonal quality? Clean tied, overdrive tones 3 or 4%, that's it. Ampero 2 products are"A- Tier", scary close to my A-Tier modelers.

I was kind of interested in this unit but it seems like it's needlessly difficult to have an IR on one output and an output without an IR to run to a real cab unless I misunderstood the manual. For the price it kills the new Kemper that just came out though.

That's only if you want to run a real cab out of one output and the other output to foh with cab sim... another cool thing is dual input to dual or single output... u can have 2 guitar inputs and have separate signal paths and outputs on both , so 2 ppl can use 2 guitars at the same time.. as long as u dont go to crazy with the effects.. also with 2 input 1 output method.. u can have a guitar with peizo output and normal output with thier own seperate fx chains at once. Pretty damn flexable.. with this kind of routing you can also have 2 amps 2 cabs , 1 amps 2cabs, 2 amps 1 cab ect... u can also use like 3 amps on 1 preset and change amps per scene with gapless switching. @fuzzymuppet1990 foh plus a live cab is how I run things when I gig. And I have a Helix so I'm familiar with all the routing options I'm just looking for a smaller form factor for gigs. Honestly the most complicated thing I do is run a delay->reverb->ping pong at the end of my signal. But otherwise it's just an od into an amp into a cab

@fuzzymuppet1990 oh I won't get rid of the Helix. I have it set up to record with, unfortunately the HX stomp doesn't have quite enough power for what I want or it'd be perfect size wise. I've used a couple different power amps but honestly right now I'm just using a Mooer Baby Bomb into a 2x12 on stage

Thank you Jay .... Nice presentation but basically, it looks too much like advertising for Hotone. I just purchased the Stage and it's not without its flaws. Talking about it would be very useful because it would help Hotone improve everything

Hi Alain, Thanks and i hear you dude 😊 🙏 In many ways it is advertising as I am a Hotone artist and I love their products. You’re right, out does have some shortcomings - and to be honest I found out about those after I had done the video and from other users, e.g. the issues with the MIDI. In fact I had a conversation with somebody a few days ago and they gave me some feedback about the MIDI switching being global and not assignable per patch/preset. I didn’t know that as I generally don’t use the MIDI switching on these units. These are all good points being brought up and what I generally tend to do it bring it up with Hotone so I’m always open to hearing about people’s experienced and thoughts about these units. In my video I was sharing my personal experience. It has been smooth for me so far. I didn’t come up against any issues for how I use it and what I do. But I’m mindful that it is just one person’s experience 🙏 So, if there are any issues that you find then I’d be more then happy to hear about them and feed them back to Hotone 😊 🙏 Hope that helps and have an awesome day!

@@jayguitar Thanks for answering honestly. Criticism is always bad if it does not lead to exchanges and improvements. I think that the Stage is really excellent but that some functions have not yet been well developed. Since you are an artist recognized by Hotone, you will be able to give them more precise and better understood feedback. The editor has some bugs when using the mouse on the IR cuts. Some "clean" amp simulations lack precision. Using the looper is'nt operational if you want to synchronize it with the drums. The strength of Line 6 is that it has listened to users and updated their OS very regularly. You will be able to convey all this to them. In any case, thank you for your work and your kindness. Alain

@@AlainChatignon you're welcome. I agree with you - finding these issues and feeding them back allows the gear to improve. Without it nothing changes. Thanks for pointing out the other bugs! I appreciate it 🙏 One of the bugs I noticed with etc OS software was that it didn't show the I/O changes when I made them on the Stage. The changes showed up on the Stage screen but the software still had everything going out to the main outputs. Anyways, I will certainly feed back all of this to Hotone 😊 🙏

How do you know if it's clipping or not?

There are meters on the unit, but you’re best tool for that is your ears. I always listen out for any clipping on the output. Hope that helps! Have an awesome day!

hey dude, yes they should work on those platforms. Nembrini they definitely do as I have tried them on my Nembrini plugins. Neural I haven’t tried but they have loaded into every other plugin I have tried so I imagine they will work. Have an awesome day!

I just use one cab IR on my guitars. When I designed the IRS for my Hero Cabs pack I blended the sounds/mics that gave me the tone I wanted from a single IR. My go to is my Green1 cab (my take on the Greenback tone) from my Hero Cabs IR pack. I use that 99% of the time. My G12-80 pack is different as that is individual mic sounds that can be blended together.

How the comparison to Hotone Ampero MP-100?

Hi Robert, great Q. They are different sound and feature wise. The MP100 is more basic in its setup and effects chain. The Stage is much more flexible with the type of effects chains you can have, dual, amps, moving the routing nodes, etc. The amp models in the Stage are higher definition. Stage has scenes, the 100 doesn’t. Overall I would say the Stage is more advanced in pretty much every way. Hope that helps! Have an amazing day!

@@jayguitar Many thanks for that. The last question: how bout changing the presets (or scenes)? Just rough cut or smooth fading? Can I hear the rest of previous preset (or scene) when I make change to the next one?

@@Robert_Fordin you're welcome. The switching between Scenes on the Stage is super smooth as essentially it is the same amp and effects set up but with different settings, e.g. the overdrive pedal turned off, the reverb turned up, etc. You can also activate trails so that effects like reverb and delay carry on when you switch. If I can remember correctly, the 100 as trails as well - but its doesn't have scenes so you have to switch patches for another sound. It's pretty smooth from what I can remember (been a while since I used it) but not as seamless as using the Scenes function on the Stage.

@@jayguitar To avoid any possible misunderstanding due to the fact that English is not my native language, I will explain what I mean by pasting the KZfaq link below (sorry, it's in Polish). In this video, the guitarist says that he is finishing one preset, which, among other things, has a delay, and this delay stays for a while when he turns on the next preset. kzfaq.infocmf2k8cu7_o In Hotone Ampero MP-100, switching presets means hard cuts. How bout this II Stage?

I understand - you’re asking if there is a delay between switching and also if there is a stop in the sound between switching patches correct? On the MP100 yes there is a slight pause if I can remember correctly - I did a video where I used a Melo Audio MIDI Commander with the unit and I had to compensate when switching so that there wasn’t a delay when I was playing (which was a live playthrough in my studio). The Stage I haven’t noticed any hard stops between patches - and Scenes there are absolutely no hard stops for sure. I can switch between the Scenes really smoothly.

I totally understand where you’re coming from - but personally I prefer the expression pedal being detached from the main unit so that I can place it where I wish to. It would be awesome if it was sold a as a package - modeller plus expression pedal - but I imagine the price would go up as well. Anyways, have a great day.

PLEASE BE AWARE BEFORE BUYING A HOTONE AMPERO II STAGE: 1. MIDI OUT is not working (yet). I contacted Hotone about this but they can't confirm if this 'feature' will be fixed in 2024. 2. You cannot RENAME Scenes to 'Intro', 'Chorus' etc. It will just be 'Scene 1', 'Scene 2', etc. Just so you know.
