i find it interesting that early on, he had this fake persona, fake organization, fake people he communicated with, etc. and by the end, all of that becomes a reality for him. he's fighting horrible organizations, communicating serious conversations between his allies. it's a perfect parallel, almost as if his Hououin Kyouma persona was predicting the future. fitting for Okabe, Father of Time.

I thought this was going to be a wholesome anime. I was connected to most of the cast and felt like I was friends with them and an actual lab member. Once episode 12 hit, I was heartbroken. Seeing the true okabe made me really sad. When Kurisu didn’t get to finish saying she loves him before he went back made me depressed even more.

Hououin Kyouma is the main reason I was able to get through the first 9 or so episodes of Steins;Gate on my first viewing of the show. I immediately connected to Okabe as a character and his appearance as mad scientist Hououin Kyouma. I loved his mannerisms, nicknames for others, his eternal fight against the organization, and his concern for others. Edit: and energy

When I first watched steins; gate, I thought that this Hououin Kyouma thing was really cringy, weird, and foolish. However, as the plot unpeels itself deeper and deeper, I couldn't help but to wish that Hououin Kyouma could be back, his crazy laughter, his tone, his style, and his poses. Okabe's sorrow and hopelessness just made me feel...sad, how watching someone so dear to you dying and dying again, having no power to save them..how it cracked Hououin Kyouma. When Hououin Kyouma was back, I just felt a spark of joy deep inside of me. I am really glad that I found Steins;gate.

Steins gate for me is perfect, many people say that the first part is not good, but it is thanks to it that the second half of steins gate is so impactful. And Okabe is one of the best characters I've ever seen, a person who doesn't know how to interact very well with others, who doesn't know what to say at certain times and for this reason he ends up hiding in his narcissistic personality, following his story suffering so much for not being able to save the most important people in his life was something really sad, and then seeing him succumb to fate in Steins gate 0 was devastating, but in the end it was beautiful to see him smile again, and defeat fate

when i saw the link to this video on reddit i thought like "i like steins gate and i have nothing to do, i think i will see it right ?." there came the prejudice that a small channel and because it is an "old" video I’m just going to waste time ... so I started watching it, the first minutes of the material presented were surprisingly satisfying, and as I continued to watch the video those involuntary tears started to come out, which made me realize why I liked anime so much, as if it were "something hidden in my subconscious" even in that year that was so forgetful in my past. but what surprised me the most (to the point that I was writing this text) was that your words brought me to a reflection on myself that for almost a year it was taking me hours to think, made me see how much I changed and how it was a distance from me of my "houoiun kyouma '', from my current state, and where I want to go from. my sincere congratulations on the video ... and I hope you continue to do amazing work like this.

@@LeoVoid There are parts I don't get, I wasn't the average steins gate watcher I guess. I LOVED okabe from the very first episode. He loved Dr pepper, he had a CRT TV, (I love retro shit) he was energetic, I could tell he was putting on an act as well. I understood everything that was going on pretty much and the first episode immediately hooked me. This really helped me understand how a lot of other people saw the series. I did not understand how people did not like okabe at first. I'm glad I heard that you were not getting anything that was going on or whatever in the beginning. I tried to show my parents steins;gate and I purposefully showed my parents a different anime first to get them used to Japanese names a little bit. They did not get steins;gate at all and did not want to watch even the 2nd episode xD. So I'm glad even an anime watcher like yourself did not know what was going on either, saying that the narrative was all over the place. This very video was actually the reason I watched steins;gate 0. I clicked on it excited for an analysis then you hit me with the spoiler warning for steins gate 0, that day I set aside a weekend to binge watch the entire series. I did, and I am glad I did. When hououin kyouma did that laugh and came back.. omg did I go NUTS! That's probably the happiest I have been watching anything, or probably anything to do with media/technology, besides probably a speedrun I did after a years work of effort lol. It was so painful seeing okabe suffer. As soon as I finished steins;gate 0, I came to this video and I thought I was going to be disappointed because of how much I hyped myself up for it, but you didn't disappoint. I wish I could watch your other content but I haven't watched any of the other anime's you have talked about. I might watch them if I ever get into anime again. But, yes I really do. Initially it was bookmarked on my firefox because I wanted to watch it after steins;gate 0 and it has remained there just because I like to rewatch it every couple months. Reminds me of how much the series impacted my life. It's pretty good. I've tried to do an analysis video on something before and something always stops me or I don't know how to describe how I felt. Seeing something like this just truly amazes me how you were able to put it into words.

Such an impressive video and really surprises me how little views it has considering it. I honestly despised Okabe due to his Houoin Kyouma personality initially but as the series went on, you really feel so bad for the guy. It is such an amazing story and while I do think Zero has more flaws, both are downright masterpieces and deserve a read or watch for those who haven't seen it. Also, Kurisu is the only Tsundere I can tolerate as she is handled so well.

Im a lonely guy with a deep love for anime that stems from coming through a dark part of my life that took up all of my childhood years into adulthood, only to realize that I lacked any sort of real identity and I knew nothing about myself. My memories are all really hazy… sometimes I feel like I didn’t actually live those years. But I remembered watching my first anime with my cousin when I was young, and even if the fog of dark times I always came back to watching anime and finding joy in it. 15 years later, and I’m on the other side struggling to find myself with nothing to latch onto to keep myself grounded in who I am and avoid regressing to the man I was before. And I start watching anime again, it’s not much but it gave me a way to feel things again and something to look forward to on a weekly basis. I watched steins;gate again and came to the exact same conclusions you did and it changed my perspective so much. Then playing through the VN solidified those conclusions and illuminated more parts of the Okabe that get left out in the anime. Anyways… the point I wanna make is that I have no one I can talk about this kind of stuff with… and it makes me feel so heart wrenchingly alone sometimes. Seeing this video made me feel like there were some people out there who could understand me and it gave me some hope. I thoroughly enjoyed it, other than the horribly timed ad right around the climax of the video. I wish I had a friend like you to discuss this kind of stuff with. I hope I find more content like this.❤

Steins; Gate is my favorite Anime of all time (2nd is Fate/Zero with Kiritsugu's character for similar reasons), because Okabe is a fantastic protagonist. The Anime and 0 really build up his persona well, only for it to be shattered with Mayuri's death cycle. I've seen some comments (not here but in general) about how Steins; Gate's characters are lacking, due to the fact that they have little to no development (despite the fact I'd argue that isn't true). What people don't realize is that that's exactly the point; the idea that Okabe is the only one who remembers anything means he is the only one who CAN have character development (and what a character arc it is) and that's the genius of it all. Here's a fun fact: J Michael Tatum, Okabe's VA in the English dub, actually had a breakdown on set (specifically during the scene where Mayrui gets run over). His performance cemented this dub as one of the greatest dubs of all time to me (up there with Fate/Zero and Highschool DxD). I don't know if you've watched Fate/Zero before, but I highly recommend it. The entire Anime is all about different philosophies.

Thanks for such a wonderful comment, I do agree with you completely on the aspect of the side characters not having as much development, isn't as important as what they do for Okabe as a character (Much like I stated in the video) I've never seen the Dub in its entirety, but I know J Michael Tatum is a wonderful voice actor and honestly I was thinking of rewatching S;G in dub. And I find it ironic that you mention F;Z because the next video I made after this one was of Kiritsugu LOL

Thank you so much for this comment! Steins Gate honestly was an anime that I took for granted on my first watch, it's definitely one of those animes where it becomes so much more during your 2nd+ watch much like Fate Zero. Even now I'm streaming Steins;Gate Elite, and I'm finding more things to be cognizant of, small little intricacies that I wouldnt have been able to see without knowing so much about Steins Gate. Thanks again, I've only just started, but I'll keep it up to get more ^^ I hope to see more comments from you

Man this video is incredible, not only did you make an in depth and smart analysis on one of my favorite characters of all time, but you did it in a way that strangely moved me and it made me want to watch the anime and read the VN again, your editing is on point, the music is just right and script is impecable. You not only managed to carve into okabe's mindset and struggles but also in mine's, that helped a lot since i'm going through a rough time, i really needed those words you said at the end so much that it brought me to tears, thank you. Amazing video! You really put in words my thoughts on this masterpiece called Steins Gate. After this video, I decided that I will finally play the visual novel, thanks. And by the way, your way of talking about philosophy and use it as a base for your arguments is incredible. In the end, I have to say that, yes, Okabe was a escapist but he truly cared about his dear friends and thanks to them he was able to keep on with his mad persona till the very end.

Great video! Okabe might be my favorite character in any work of fiction and you did an awesome job breaking down what makes him so great. It's crazy because I read the visual novel first and I honestly almost dropped it because I thought he was so obnoxious at the beginning. For me, the main turning point was the flashback to Mayuri at her grandma's grave, where we see the Hououin Kyoma persona born.

Honestly right! It took some determination for me to look past what the narrative initially expressed his character to be, and saw what it truly was about towards the end And I can honestly say, he is one of my most relatable characters in writing

@@attacktitan9222 I honestly believe the underlying narrative of Re:Zero is a giant commentary on depression, I know people tend to discuss loneliness when analyzing Subarus character, but I personally think that the story touches up on alot of the subject matter of depression and how it affects us. Just look at Betelguese, Subaru, Emilia, Garfield, Rem, Satella. All of them have a mental issue of some kind that stems from an affliction from their past.

Great video, man. Steins;Gate's ability to constantly foreshadow and sprinkle hints of what's to come throughout the first 11 episodes is second to none. While the story doesn't have a wide list of characters, the few they do have are each developed so beautifully, not rushed or mishandled. Watching the narrative in chronological order makes Okabe return to Hououin Kyouma in Steins;Gate 0 feels so much more cathartic.

wow. this was an amazing watch, I watched steins gate a few years ago and considered it very good, but it wasn't until I played the VNs a few months back that I truly fell in love with this story. I have never experienced such emotion while consuming a piece of media that it would have made me cry, never. That changed with the Re-awake scene and song in S;G 0, shit made me cry like a baby The story, the characters, the narrative, the music, the sadness and the happiness, steins gate is by far my favourite series, such an emotional world that fills me with passion and motivation. Thank you for this video!! it made me love this show even more.
