I both agree and disagree. Scarlet Dawn is a sort of uncanny valley effect for me. The visuals, the gameplay, the boss designs, the story all feel like a natural evolution of HotD4. But 4 had decent voice acting, like genuinely B+ not bad at all emotion and inflection. Scarlet Dawn's voice acting would sound fine in HotD2 as cheesy zombie schlock (don't get me wrong, 2 is a great game and the schlock factor is not an insult) but I would never use 2's voice acting in Scarlet Dawn

Are you aware that Chariot is the first boss in the first game and that Judgement was based off of him? He's a returning character like Hangedman. This game is a massive homage to the first game.

Then again, I don't think Sega cares too since the PS5's Gyro motion has no sensor bar for reliable accurate cross hair/pointer aiming, and the series X doesn't even support gyro. Releasing it in VR(Using Quest 3 & PC, or PSVR2) AND PC using a OLED compatible Light gun would be great!

Temperance somewhat made sense tho conceptually speaking. He's a huge fat blob and bullets wouldn't be able to pierce deep enough to damage him. His head was his weakness since that's the least fatty part but it had to be a heavy hit still. I don't see why High Priestess would be invulnerable to attacks. It's not like it had layers protecting it like Temperance. Heck if anything, the mouth woulda been a weakness too. Somehow soft enough to burn and explode but bullets can't penetrate it like????

James himself at the beginning of Chapter 2 says: "I can't shake the feeling that things didn't end like we thought 3 years ago". Lastly, the intro to the HOTD4 Special explicitly states that the year is 2003. In Chapter 0 of Scarlet Dawn Kate says: "This is just what James said three years ago". That would mean that this game takes place in 2006. The timestamp is: 3:32. Aside from that, the HOTD universe is clearly a cut above on the level of technological advancement than the real world is. In 1998 Curien had already created Magician, in 2000 Goldman had erected an entire bloody skyscraper riddled with magic invisibility-noclip robots and lightsaber zombies, in 2003 James had a PDA to himself the size of a phone that packed enough explosives to destroy The World. Can't be surprised about the smartphones. Scarlet Dawn actually retcons the main plotline a little. The Japanese guide for HOTD3 states that the world of HOTD collapsed in 2003, and AMS was disbanded back then, but it doesn't seem like the world outside of the Scarecrow Manor here is all that different from normal.

Game was sets in 2006 while HOTD 4 is set in 2003. Also, in my opinion, Kate looks younger with her character model in Scarlet Dawn, but in 4, TBH, she looks a bit older.

I don't know if I could play this game at 4k or not, but the video was upscaled from 1920x1080. I used a Ryzen 7 5800X with a GTX 1070.

While both of those games are currently playable in TeknoParrot, they require a Patreon subscription. I haven't tried them yet, so I don't know if there are any problems with them. The Patreon requirement is removed from all games sooner or later.

I've heard it's usually around 6 months, but can't say for sure. As far as I know, if a game isn't fully functional, it won't leave Patreon. For example, Ghost Squad Evolution has been stuck in Patreon for a long time, but I think it still has some big problems. Regarding the light guns, have you compared the AimTrak with the Sinden light gun? I know the Sinden light gun is a little more expensive, but it's supposed to be more precise. I personally have the AimTrak, but that is only because the Sinden wasn't around back when I got it.

It's not for me to say what works better for you, but the thing is, if you're familiar with Wii remotes, that is closer to what you're getting with an AimTrak. The Sinden lightgun has a camera inside that points at the TV for added precision, so it's supposed to feel closer to what you get on a real arcade cabinet. What appears to be the worst thing about the Sinden lightgun is the border around the screen that is necessary for aiming. I only have a stereo setup, and I think it always sounded mostly normal to me. I don't know of a way to make it sound exactly as it should if you also only have stereo sound, although it should still be better than it currently is for you. This is one fix I saw on reddit, but I don't know if it applies to your problem. Also, I had amplified the voices in this video, because they were normally too quiet with the default settings. "You can fix it by running the game in windowed mode , open up your windows sound properties (right clicking sound icon in taskbar) , you'll find sound being sent through 2 devices. Disable the one that isn't your default output and the sound will be restored. Took me forever to find the solution to this but hope it helps."

There’s a translated interview with the designers for one of the HOTD 3 home releases where the English voice actors dub over the Japanese audio. They actually sound like decent voice actors during it, so it’s actually clear that the stiff and corny voice acting is intentional direction by Sega.

Not really. Only the second game's voice works were hilariously bad. The first is chessy but still decent. 3 and 4 both have much more competent voice works, especially 4. (Goldman went from sounding like a goof in the second game to a legitimate sinister creep in 4) Though it is surprising to see Scarlet Dawn having wonky voice works again. Might be an intentional choice on the developers.

The location test version of Scarlet Dawn actually had WORSE voice acting than in the final game. Ryan sounded way goofier and had this shrill voice.

The Model 2 emulator is the only way to play that game, I think. It boots on MAME, but last time I checked, it wasn't playable that way.

Funny you mentioned that, Scarlet Dawn actually had unused files regarding the blood and gore effects which was sadly never used to satiate Sega's hunger for a more "broader" audience.

I actually like the vampire-style disintegrations used here. It adds a bit of lore, like the virus that was used to create these monsters consuming them when they die. It's not for everyone, I get that, but for somebody like me who's a fan of movies like Blade, I think it's pretty cool.
