Aemma’s birth scene was intense and such a tragedy. When her voice changed from confusion to extreme fear and panic, was haunting AF. Her screams and expressions could be felt beyond the screen. Her body language…the way it recoiled and tensed up in pain made it all the more excruciating to watch 😭

It was absolutely barbaric what they did to her. They could have at least told her. Or given her something for the pain. I know they said they give as much milk of the poppy as is safe for the baby, but I think that only means if the labor goes on for longer. They could have put her to sleep. Or did something so she was not afraid and screaming. They butchered her. It's horrifying.

Daemon in the book is described as being both loved and hated in equal measure. If you are with him he inspires great devotion and loyalty.... and if you're his enemy as equal hate and fear. So far Matt Smith plays it perfectly. I also like paddy Constantines king Viserys. He's slightly different from the book. He's more of a tragic character in this, a good person but weak king. The crown sits heavy on his head. So far it seems they have done a great job casting all the characters.

Fire & Blood is an unreliable narrative from a maester & jester. GRRM has confirmed that the show - which he is heavily involved in - is the actual history as told by those involved. All that to say, just because the book says Aemma died when Rhaenyra was five, doesn’t mean she actually did. Just like we can only make our best guesses at what happened in our own world history when there aren’t too many records.

I already had hopes for this show because for one thing unlike got, hotd is a complete story. From the books to the writing of the show itself, it's all finished and waiting for execution. Now how the showrunners will execute the story is still a mystery, but the script is finished. Also having actors like Matt Smith who is faithful to Martin is a great start. The pilot was dark and gritty as hell like it's supposed to be, I'm curious to see how it will work in film.

It also helps that GRRM has complete control over this series down to his handpicked showrunners, Condal and Sapochnik who know this stuff inside and out. I have complete faith just knowing that GRRM will not let this go crazy. From what I heard, they might do a different period in Targaryen history after 3 or 4 seasons. This series should be fun.

The birth scene haunted the hell outta me, and I'm all for gruesome shit in GOT, it's basically its trademark. Red Wedding? Sad, fucked up. Ned's head getting chopped off? Fucked up. Theon getting tortured? Fucked up. But explicitly showing a group of midwives and maesters holding down a woman and forcibly cutting open her womb and ripping her baby out while her loving husband refuses to listen to her and tell her what's going on, harrowing screams and all? That's next level even for me, and is up there with Princess Shireen getting burned alive imho.

Fascinating how people get different views based on the same content. I didn’t see Daemon as the villain. He seemed the most honest. What he said to the king was right - all the council do think the king is weak and are manipulating him. Plus he does seem to care about his family. That being said my favourite character in GoT was Jaime Lannister so I clearly like the complicated ones! Mind you, I went off the king the moment he didn’t even think his wife deserved to know she was about to die. No choice over what happens to her body. I won’t be crying for him when he dies, which seems inevitable.

So on the Inside The Episode feature the show runners said that even though Daemon is murderous bastard and an all around prick that he genuinely does love and care for his brother and his niece. Which I did see. Yeah he want the Iron Throne more than anything but I think deep down he doesn’t want it if it means the cost of his brothers life. Also as much as I disliked the cutting between the scenes of the tourney and the birthing I understand why they did that. Emma said that giving birth is a battle, and she was right.

Viserys getting cut is a reference to the books, when one is cut by the Iron Throne it symbolizes the person is unfit to rule. It’s main GOT books everyone was cut except Ned Stark.

@xManAvenger
@xManAvenger Жыл бұрын
@@Teresa7087 well he never sat the throne as a ruler, simply to mock his brother that he was the upcoming heir. The books never mention him being cut tho, then again the book is written by a third party so there may not be that authentic. There’s even a theory by people in the book the maesters killed Baelon, but the reason goes into spoilers.

Cool fact, Princess Rhaeneryas is based off British Princess Margarat who had a similar circumstance where her father wanted her to inherit the throne but was opposed by other claiments on the grounds of Salic law, which only permitted men to inherit the throne.

I really loved how they made the iron throne more imposing in this, they raised it up with more steps and surrounded it with so many melted swords. It looks much more like it is described in the books and often portrayed in artwork. Even from the beginning when the show was great I never really liked the iron throne from game of thrones, it always seemed to small just sitting in the throne room it is supposed to be raised up and I never really believed it was made from the collected swords of multiple armies.

If you go back and watch the trailer I believe they do a jump forward, Rhaeneryas looks older in a lot of the scenes (the actresses look strikingly similar).. and even the Alicent character has a different actress portraying her.

I knew there were going to be 2 different actresses playing Rhaeneryas and Alicent, but I was thinking they were going to do flashbacks. It looks like they are going to jump ahead a little bit in a few episodes to show how close the 2 are for when they want to kill each other 10 to 20 years later. Should be a fun civil war

I'm a huge Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire fan and the amount of nostalgia and immersion I felt being back in this world and knowing some of the history and characters was something I can't describe! The foreshadowing for not only what's coming but even for what we know happens in Game of Thrones was an amazing feeling! Beginning to end I was engaged and interested in all the characters and the acting was phenomenal, that Viserys and Daemon scene was so raw to me. Everything about this first episode from the birth scene all the way to Viserys's speech to Rhaenyra was a sight to behold (which his speech gave me chills down my spine, combined with the music just struck a chord with me). So far I really love Paddy Considine as Viserys you can telI he wants to be a good king and an even better patriarch for his family but he's struggling to do both and he has the potential to do it but like Daemon said he is creating his own downfall in some aspects, he inherited the throne from the previous king who had a reign of decades of peace that he's still trying to uphold and I just love the struggle we're seeing with his character. I have faith in this show, the world, and the possible stories to be told and so far with this episode alone made up for Season 8 for me 😂 Can't wait to continue watching this along with you guys and seeing your reactions to how this story unfolds! (P.S sorry for geeking out so hard this world is just so detailed and alive and I enjoy how good George R.R Martin is at creating that very history)

I really liked Emelia Clark's performance in general, but after watching this I've realized how bad she was at speaking her Old Valarian lines. I know they've had several more years to develop it but this series have people delivering old valarian in a way that felt way more natural and it felt more like a fleshed out culture in this. Like whenever Dany did it, its was super dramatic and over the top. But there was so many regular conversations in this.
@roguechevelle

Well it's good to keep in mind too that this takes place many years before then and she moved around alot as a child, languages have different accents or dialects depending on where your from or places you live in influence your accent. Anyone who speaks a second language or that has lived abroad for a while can tell you that accents differ. They have a professional linguist that developed the language and works with the actors, it may have been a conscious choice to have the accents differ because of the difference in timeframes and upbringing. They also seem to speak it with more frequency being that there are more Targaryen's in existence at this time while it seems Dany was the last of her line (or so she thought) also it sounds a bit like her Dothraki influenced some of her accent in Valarian as well since she spoke Dothraki with more frequency.
@LS13.
@LS13. Жыл бұрын
Because the language was still somewhat around during this time within our characters. During danys time the language was basically extinct in Westeros, so they made it a point that she could speak it. And yes it wasn’t well developed then. She wasn’t bad at delivering, it was what it was then
@judigemini178
@judigemini178 Жыл бұрын
Dany didn't have the kind of security and support and accessibility of the targaryen empire & culture that we're being shown here, she was an exile being hunted & figuring everything out on her own. In GOT I believe valyrian is seen as an old & dead language by that time. She was surviving in a post targaryen world, if anything this new series has made me realise that her rise is kind of a miracle given all that context. I wouldnt really expect her portrayal to be that of a self-assured targaryen who is fully in tune with her heritage & roots. But to each his own, everyone's interpretation of it is going to differ.

The birthing scene was one of my favorite of the whole episode. I didn't feel disturbed by it because unfortunately since the beginning of time many women died exactly like that. It's a very sad scene, but also interesting and very well done. Also I've watched The Knick and nothing can compare to that level of intensity regardless pregnancies and women dying during childbirth.

Great reaction and review. I am very excited to see the reaction of people not as familiar with the source material. What you did or didn't like and the fresh opinions on characters I already know the fate of. Can't wait to see more! Keep in mind that there will be a flash forward in time. This story covers a number of years. If you paid attention to the trailers there is an older and younger version of Alicent and Rhaenyra. The voice of the actor playing older Rhaenyra ( Emma D'arcy ) is narrating the episode at the beginning. Prophecy is a very important part of the books and Got cut a lot of it out, especially towards the later seasons. Dany actually has several prophetic dreams in the books.
