I would actually say that Vhagar showed some restraint earlier during the chase. She bit down twice being nowhere near Arrax and tried to pick them up with her talons (which we know dragons can do without harming).

She was hesitant in backing her cause but after carefully surveying her behavior and strategy she knew she could trust her that's what I like about Rhaenys Eve Best did a fantastic job.

@@mygreentopiary That line isn't exactly glorious after the dance of the dragons. That line created 5 civil wars that plagued westeros and produced such fine monarchs like the mad King, Aegon the unworthy and Bealor the nutjob. That line also let the dragons go extinct and was responsible for the end of Targaryens in westeros as well. Besides that line itself is facing extinction.

The reason she also HAS TO side with Blacks is because both of her granddaughters belongs to Black section whether they want it or not cause Baela and Rhaena are Daemon's daughters who is King Consort of Black's Queen Rhaenyra. Not to forget that both girls are betrothed to Jace and Luke who are the heirs of Black section. There's no way out of it for the House Velaryon cause these girls are last of Corly's line.

Like prey trying to flee a predator and if the chase goes on long enough that is when the prey is thinking that he can't outrun the predator and so they have two choices and that is to stop and accept his fate and being killed or stand and fight.

Rhaenys already had an errand to patrol the Gullet. Daemon wasn't present with that last meeting so he couldn't go himself.

@@MukatutuLate reply but I like to think Vhagar was ready to kill even before she was burned. She tried to get them with her feet during the chase which surely would have killed or seriously injured Luke and Arrax had she been successful.

​@@spacepotato5524 I mean, that's possible but I prefer the reaction after being burned, it puts the responsibility of what happened more on both sides, both riders losing control of their dragons, their dragons having their own will and the combination of both issues eventually culminating in the result that occured. I don't think Vhaegar would have much reason to really want to kill Arrax before she got burned apart from being commanded by Aemond but Aemond did not have true intention to kill him, so it makes more sense that Vhagar got serious when Arrax burned her.

@@spacepotato5524 You can't say for certainty it would have killed them or just because it would have killed them does not mean Vhagar had the intention to specifically kill them. The intention to kill was definitely after he got burned, even Aemond noticed this and asked Vhagar to stop and obey.

I love how the show treats Aemond. I can still see the little Aemond in his eyes. He really didn't think that the prank would go wrong. He's regretted it. Yeah, I don't think Aemond himself is ready to kill his own kin at this time.

Exactly, Vhagar took two chomps @ Lucerys and Arrax before the actual murder. She could have bitten them in half each time. Aemond was out for blood, not just an eye. He took a nuclear weapon and chased a baby dragon and that sweet boy to their death. Also if you remember during the kid fight, Aemond had a rock in his hand and was going to bash Jace in the head with it until Jace threw sand in his face and Lucerys used the knife. Team🖤

@@lilysinfonia6457 He didn't need to do all that if he really intended to kill Arrax and Lucerys. All he needed to do was ask Vhagar to blow them out of the sky with her fire. Besides when Vhagar/Aemond suddenly showed up in front of Arrax in the storm, Vhagar easily could have killed that tiny dragon right then and there.

@@siran424 Cats like to play with their food before they kill. That's pretty much what Aemond was doing. Vhagar took two big chomps at Luke and Arrax during the chase, either one could have chomped them in half. Not buying he didn't intend to kill Lucerys. They changed the book to make Aemond look more sympathetic. Doesn't work for me.

This is true about the fact that Viserys never actually thought that Daemon would succeed him and his trust in Rhaenyra... But Daemon also has a point in his anger and his view of prophesies and such... Targaryen's dragon dreams and their devotion and wiliness to believe any dream or vision and to blindly assig meaning and grandeur to everything is one of the reasons for their downfall; how many Targaryen kings and princes went mad or made huge mistakes because they believe themselves to be things and they bought into this idea of them being "saviors of the world" Daemon is also pissed because while he believed for years that Rhaenyra was a bit like him, that she had the fire and that they had a similar view in the proper "glory" of the house of the dragon; he is seeing now how Rhaenyra is acting more and more like her father: Indecisive, weak handed and only acting of half measures, always scared to hit first and hit hard... Daemon is probably thinking that Viserys teachings and weaknesses are going to make Rhaenyra loose her crown and continue to dilute the straight of their house, and then he hears this nonsense about a prophesy and that the reason why Rhaenyra is not acting is because of it and what Viserys told her about a "dream"... Because make no mistake, while the prophesy is indeed very serious, the idea that it could be happening around the corner drove Viserys to make many mistakes as king and it's driving Rhaenyra to make mistakes, mistakes that might have cost the life of her own son... Which I think is a realization that she has at the end of this episode and that will drive her to take action in the future... Daemon spelled out a plan of action, quick and hard, with the goal of ending things quickly and decisively; whether or not it would've worked effectively is open for debate, but he is the military man... But the reality is that Rhaenyra decided to wait, she opted for diplomacy, and that decision ended up in the death of her son... All of shaped and tempered by this idea that the prophesy is around the corner and that she is "the one" to fulfill it; just like Viserys made so many bad decisions thinking that the prophesy was around the corner and that he was "the one" to make it happen

Let's not forget that viserys thought that he was going to get a boy (which died...) and exiled daemon just after before he could accept him (in his mind and heart) as heir and tell him the tale.... Maybe he did never thought of him as heir but we are (i think) overthinking it :)
