The main difference (IMO)between Daemon and Aemond is that Aemond is more calculating, and methodical with his plans, while Daemon is impulsive and overly emotional. This is why Daemon is messing things up for Rhaenyra's side.

Id say this episode proves it's all about being accepted and valued more by all his Targaryen family similar to Aemond but not as psychotic. Daemon never knowing his mother too is very significant to him, she died when he was 3 hence why he didn't know it was her until she said "My favourite son". The witch Alys is deliberately messing with him to ruin the blacks and make him do his own claim. Daemon and Targaryens arent into incest with parents, you see how freaked out he is afterwards & sickened by it, he fears sleep the next night. Daemon only knows hes the favourite son of Alyssa because Viserys used to remind him of that, which i think he clung to all his life. I think its all about not being good enough for all his loves in his life especially his Valerian wives. Even in the mother vision, she speaks alot about Viserys which is also a clue. No, that never happened. His mother died when he was two or three, so he would not even remember her face so that scene never happened for real. I think the woods which put that in his head because in a little bit in this scene or a few parts after this, she brings up his mother and the fact that it was a shame she doesn’t remember her, and that makes me think she’s the one that put that thought in his head. But no worries it did not actually happen at any point.
