Criston Cole is mostly reluctant because he is a Kingsguard, who is sworn to celibacy, and he really believes in his oath. Also, sleeping with the unwed princess is probably an executable offense by itself for anyone other than high nobility, which Criston isn't. So sleeping with Rhaenyra is like a doubly bad idea for him.

The loss of a noblewoman's virginity can diminish her possibilities for marriage. Which could be detrimental to her House, Westeros is based on medieval Europe where, as a general rule, a woman's chastity was a very big deal. That why Alicent was so pressed about Rhaenyra’s. Also due to her own situation when she’s been compelled to due her duty by her father. I totally get we’re she is coming from.

Okay just going to point out a couple of things here. In Westeros, marriages between uncle/niece are not explicitly forbidden, and are more of a grey area, even outside the Targaryens. In the books we know of two Stark lords who did it, and a Greyjoy lord who considered it. It's a way of shoring up succession to the throne and reducing the number of claimants. The Targaryens also already had an uncle-niece union just two generations before this show. In real life many royal houses have practiced it in the past too. The thing that is truly different about Targaryens is their custom of marrying siblings, which no one else does, and everyone is Westeros has accepted that it is ok for the Targaryens to do this. So you'll notice that the thing that really annoyed Viserys about Daemon's proposal to marry Rhaenyra is the fact that Daemon is already married. Because Westeros could not accept a man having multiple wives even for the Targaryens, and the Targaryens decided to give up this custom in order to keep the custom of sibling unions. Daemon marrying a second time would cause huge uproar across Westeros, much more than an uncle-niece wedding would.

Part of why Alicent was so mad about Rhaenyra was that from her point of view, she is giving her whole life to her "duty" as queen. She spends her days taking care of her babies, and her nights having to sleep with Viserys to pop out more. And while she was forced to sleep with Viserys, she discovers Rhaenyra is out on the town doing whatever she wants. She's probably a bit envious, hence her anger.

Targeryans marry in their family in order to keep their bloodline pure and therefore maintain that bond with their dragons...as targeryan pure blood is what keeps that magical bond with the dragons mostly..so it's natural for them... King viserys and daemon's parents were literal siblings...

The problem wasn't that it was Uncle and Neice, but that she was unwed and Daemon was already married.

It's worth noting that Alicent is also angry with jealousy that Rhaenyra fucks who she pleases and enjoys herself while Alicent had to marry the king out of duty and essentially never got to enjoy love/sex/freedom

Daemon has no design on the throne he just wants to be respected by his brother. Viserys should have named him hand over Otto. In episode one the roles Daemon held were all Otto’s recommendations, all of which Daemon went heavy handed with. The actresses confirmed they portrayed young Rhaenyra and young Alicent as having romantic feelings for one another. If the story is allowed to play out under this notion, Alicent’s reaction would make much more sense. Rhaenyra didn’t lie about her and Daemon they didn’t have relations however; Cristina Cole on the other hand…😊 Otto calculated Aemma would not survive another child birth so when she does die what does he recommend? Viserys supplant Daemon with Rhaenyra knowing the realm would hate it; meanwhile he would pimp his daughter to the king in hopes of a male heir. Once that happened, what was the first thing he whispered about? Supplanting Rhaenyra with Aegon. Throughout the entire time placing divisive thoughts in Allicent’s head stoking a fire between her and Rhaenyra to ensure a rift in the Targaryen family. Otto is not for the realm he is for himself and his family line to take over the realm. Daemon loves his family even though he can be very vile. That’s what happens when a spoiled child doesn’t grow up, you get the Rogue Prince. Unfortunately, the show runners allowed many of Daemon’s scenes to be cut which would show his caring side. Some of the creative team is upset that Daemon is a favorite character of many so I believe they cut the scenes to try and make him less likable. If you look up some of the interviews you will see where they creative team is puzzled by Daemon’s popularity. Alicent will be angry and petty because Rhaenyra lied about being a maiden which is none of her business. She kept her seduction of Viserys away from Rhaenyra and it does not matter if Viserys asked her not to say anything after the fact, she was already keeping it a secret. Remember Aegon Targaryen, otherwise known as Jon Snow did not have the Targaryen hair color, those from the north have stronger genes. Rhaenys has dark hair in the book by the way due to her Barotheon genes.

This episode and the following episode are like one isolated story covering Rhenerya's duty in marriage. It is done SO WELL. You'll notice that the music that opens this episode (4) is the same score that closes out the next episode (5) - AND ITS F*CKING PERFRCT ❤
