I work in the casino business as a table games dealer and this song hits much different than it used to. Over time I have realized that gambling is the exact same as taking drugs. Every time a gambler wins, their brain releases dopamine and seratonin as a reward response. At first it is all fun and games and sometimes you win money. But when you're an addict, it's no longer about the money; it's about getting the next win, that next hit of dopamine. I have seen many sad things occur in the business. People waiting for their check to clear the bank at the table. I saw someone win $10,000 in less than a few hours, and proceeded to play every single penny back, then later asking other customers for loans. They say if you see someone with a gambling problem, then let a higher up know. But they have to want to quit, and many never will. I have seen the ruin of many a poor boy, and I thank God that I'm not one.

There is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy And God, I know I'm one My mother was a tailor She sewed my new blue jeans My father was a gamblin' man Down in New Orleans Now the only thing a gambler needs Is a suitcase and a trunk And the only time he's satisfied Is when he's all drunk Oh mother, tell your children Not to do what I have done Spend your lives in sin and misery In the House of the Rising Sun Well, I got one foot on the platform The other foot on the train I'm goin' back to New Orleans To wear that ball and chain Well, there is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy And God, I know I'm one Songwriter: Alan Price, Traditional

This has only just found it’s way to me frank. So glad it did though. This song , good as it is, has been done to death, but this is the first time I’ve heard it as a heartbreaking ballad with such raw emotion. I don’t know where you are living Frank but hearing that it should be in the heart of New Orleans . Brilliant as usual

I like it mate, but you have a really nice vocal tone that you're not exploiting. I wish you would've maintained the whispering element but maybe sung a little more. That would've put your version in the same echelon as Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt
