If you extend and have a flat roof put a sky light in. It was the best decision I made. Don’t let companies tell you it needs to be done in multiple pieces - you can easily get massive one piece sky lights which look gorgeous! Excited to see what you do

We put one in our addition. Love it. Sun light, moon light....our kids lie on the ground and star watch. Definitely an idea to consider. My hubby and I installed ours. As long as you are careful with the flashing and take your time, it really is not terribly difficult.

Just a suggestion, maybe you could plant wild flowers / cut flowers in the empty veg beds? They are easier to grow, look lovely and you can bring them indoors too! :)

I like to walk into rooms and have that 'cosy on the sofa in a giant blanket with a nice mug of tea' feeling, while being a little more productive most of the time!

We are renovating our cottage and I know what you mean by everyone else seeming to do things really fast. We've lived here for 18 months now, and are taking renovations slow and getting to know the house and what we want from it. I have to remind myself to slow down too, and that its okay to take you time.

Ha my boyfriend is the same, he doesn’t really appreciate interior design as much as me. I feel like it’s so good for my mental health to be in a space where the decoration and vibe is just perfect for me. I find it really evokes such positivity and creativity in my life and I’m also farrr less stressed 💗 I look forward to seeing what you do with your lovely home ✨

I’m by no means a dog expert, but I have a retriever - we recently moved to a hot climate and I looked up whether or not she’d benefit from us shaving her. I read that it wouldn’t be a great idea for a long-haired dog like her because in some cases their fur actually helps their body cool in the heat, and if their fur is shaved too close, they are vulnerable to sunburn. Hope this is helpful and not overbearing - I was glad to find that info before I shaved my dog and then ran her around in the desert 😂 (and granted, we live in a desert, not Cornwall).

I'm still not really sure if this applies to all dogs, and what the threshold is in terms of climate and shaving them, but what I found was enough to put me off shaving my own dog at the time. Yep 100%, I was just about to leave this comment! I Have a longhaired miniature dachshund.. When you shave them their coat grows back thicker - almost like when you shave your own legs or whatever - so this will mean they're more warm once it starts growing back and they shed more! If you have a dog with a non smooth coat you need to know how to manage it - or if you "Can't be bothered" to treat it properly, you should take them to a groomer who's a professional and you're supporting someone who's self employed and actually knows how to care for the animal. This goes for wire coats too! they must be stripped and never shorn - just a side note as this is a thing my mum does to our family dog that really annoys me. Happy to spread correct info

@@ClareGak Woah, I don't think anyone here in the comments needs to tell Madeleine what she should or shouldn't do - sharing resources can be helpful but moralizing is not. They clearly care for their dog deeply and attentively - as was shown when Roxie was so sick, not to mention their many nature walks and cuddles. Who among us has not taken shortcuts to care for our pets in order to avoid high costs? I know I have.

For the garden you can direct sow a lot of vegetables. Beans, carrots, courgette, aubergine, squash and melons, kale and other greens, lettuces are good to try

I totally know what you’re talking about when you described your love for architecture and art. That’s exactly why I love older homes and we always go to tour them when we’re on vacation. I live about three hours away from the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina of the US and it’s one of my favorite places to vacation.

I agree that other than doing what absolutely needs to be done, take your time in thinking out your renovations. Live in the house for a good while to see how you use your space and what may need to change. You have a beautiful home as is, and I’m sure any decisions you make will only improve it. If you plan on this being your forever home, then really no need to rush and drive yourself crazy.

Loving your hair, so natural looking. I agree about houses and interiors, they are to me a reflection of your personality and that’s what makes them and you unique. I’m not in favour of trends or copycat interiors as I feel they have no individuality. Your new home would be amazing with William Morris wallpaper and colour. The bones of the building would benefit from that. Nice video, thanks.

You're not too late for the veg beds, lots of seeds can be direct sown later. I also use plug plants from a company called Rocket Gardens, they do year round veg patches too and don't use plastic pots. There's other similar companies if you Google veg plug plant deliveries. Really handy if you don't have time/space to grow seedlings yourself.

Excellent video Maddie!! I can relate so much to what you said about interiors, every time I come into an old house, I imagine all the storytelling around it! If I lived in a Georgian house like yours, I would probably imagine I'm a Romantic character from an 18th century Gothic novel or a character from one of Jane Austen's novels (probably Elizabeth Bennet because she's my favourite character of all times). And now that you said it had been renovated during the Victorian period, I imagine Elizabeth Bennet meeting Jane Eyre in your house etc. I absolutely relate to architecture being more than simply a matter of building style, it's about History and art and literature and our own stories as humans really! I think I got carried away, your video inspired me so much!!! Thank you again for all your creativity and your excellent content!

I think your home is literally my dream home too!! The gorgeous kitchen, bathroom, garden, and even wysteria!! Soo beautiful. So happy for you Alex, Roxy and the cats! Getting to know the garden is definitely a wonderful idea. When my partner and I moved in to our first home in December a couple of people told us to rip out our beds as there was only one twiggy looking plant - but by summer it had blossomed into a teeny fig tree, which somehow bore the largest figs I have ever seen in the UK!! Plus so many gorgeous wildflowers everywhere in spring/summer. Also I'm glad it's not just me who literally feels like a new person when getting a hair cut 😂

And yes, William Morris wallpaper!! Gorgeous idea!! My mum is renovating her old Georgian home currently (she bought it two months ago and it was completely neglected and unloved). Even the bathroom now has fabulous prints! It really suits the high ceilings. Love love your aga pad things too, so lovely. For picnics, etsy also sell gorgeous bamboo William Morris plates, bowls, tumblers and big pimms style jugs - delightful!

Beauty tip for applying moisturiser etc. Use 2 fingers horizontally, one over top lip and the other under bottom lip. Then you’ll get the area underneath your nose. x

Runner beans are an easy thing to start with...also local garden centres sell baby veg plants ready to plant...so no worries you’ve missed seed planting. Courgettes can be started in the south west now too .

It’s such a beautiful house and Roxy at the window was adorable. It’s perfectly normal in Australia too to get onto the property ladder with what you can afford. Some renovate and stay but many renovate and move on and let’s face it we’ve all been addicted to Homes Under the Hammer 😂😂 where we see most people do this 😂

can you recommend an area in Cornwall where we could potentially find a rural farmhouse. Coming from USA, I don't know what rural location will provide some isolation but be a close drive to community? We also are looking for a good local realtor, any recommendations?

Cornwall is small compared to the US, so most places even rural as reasonably close to community . Buying houses is different, so you don’t have a realtor the way you do in the US. There are shops called estate agents and you have to register with all I. The area you want. However there is a website called Rightmove that has all the estate agents s houses in it (also PrimeLocation) . Please bear in mind it doesn’t replace registering with the estate agents as they will let you know if new properties before they get to be online. X

@@djaneab Thank you so kindly. Yes its so different from the USA. Im British but left the UK as a child, and I have no idea about how things work there now.
