I was a house sitter for many years. I can relate to all of this! Another point I found challenging was home owners asking neighbours to keep an eye on you. Neighbours would pop around at any time to check up on things. I even had neighbours let themselves in with a key when I was in the shower! I often felt 'watched'.

Looking into doing local house sitting as a summer job before my first year of college. I'm mostly writing this comment to get my ideas in order, but if anyone notices something glaringly wrong please lmk. I'm thinking $14/hr without pets and $16/hr with, and offering garden/yard maintenance and basic cleaning (laundry, dishes, cleaning bedsheets, basic tidying-up, etc) as being included in the deal. It'd be a case by case basis, but other stuff may cost more. I'd offer 24hr sitting and custom hours. I'd also offer -$20/day if food is provided for lunch and supper (I'd bring my own snacks and I don't eat a lot) but only for jobs where I would be there for more than 6 hours in the afternoon. No children. But yeah. That's about it.

Oh oh oh What I will require of the homeowner! A list of what needs to be done everyday for the entire stay. A detailed explanation of what each pet needs, their personalities and boundaries, their quirks. Also a list of do's and don't's while I am house sitting.

LMAO,,,, this is absolutely brilliant. No non sense factual advice about a possibly aspirational life style I commend you highly x

Thanks for this video. I've been house sitting for over a year now and I'm completely nomadic. Although I'm sitting very local for a while to my family in the UK I plan to visit Australia again maybe the end of next year so I will look at those links for definite. I'm also in the process of starting my own business so the handouts will be great. I have my first paid client booked in for next year but all the rest are through and have been through trusted housesitter. So nice to hear your stories as they mirror mine completely. Not many people would understand what it takes and I'm learning all the time. Thanks again and take care, Zoe x

Thanks for your comment, Zoe. It sounds like it's going well for you. Yes, it can be a lot harder than people think, especially with managing the owners' expectations as well as the pets! x

Thanks for your upload, some good suggestions there. MOst of our sits have been great BUT theres been horrors as well. One last October has a wildfire rip through their 45 hectare property and the owner was absolutely useless.

No problem. Oh wow that's scary about the fire!

You have to learn to read between the lines, too. I recently saw an ad for a free 2 week sit and they mentioned they had a ride-on mower for yard work. Uhm, i think they should mow their lawn the day before they leave and expect to mow it upon their return. Or pay a kid to mow it!

Absolutely! What a treat to use their mower, ha ha!

Glad it helped with your decision.

Same. I've house-sat for family and friends a bit, but 99% of those situations had no problems. I can't imagine coming into a dirty house with an animal that isn't properly potty trained.

Have you ever feared for your personal safety?
@dreamingofdownunder5 ай бұрын
I’ve had a few dogs that are too boisterous and strong for me, but nothing too scary. The owners have all been fine safety wise too.

I was wondering also. I'm afraid of a weirdo possibly having a camera in the shower or something. I saw a guy on the news had cameras in the shower and bathroom in his Air B and B to record women naked. The women exposed him on Tik Tok and social media.

Can you work elsewhere like a normal job and housesit
@dreamingofdownunder10 ай бұрын
Yes definitely. Most people house sitting will be working too. Just make sure the owner knows in case they need someone who can be home to let the dogs out etc.
