On today's episode of Homeworthy we're taking you inside a Frank Lloyd Wright home just 35 minutes outside of New York City. It's the Socrates Zaferiou House and it sits on 2.5 acres of land. It is practically in the same condition it was when Mr. Wright approved the plans almost 60 years ago. You feel as if you're stepping back in time. Enjoy this special tour!

This has to be one of my favorite Homeworthy tours. Kudos to her for being such an informed steward of this important example of architectural history. I loved hearing how the ideas and principles of FLW were incorporated into each room and the site. She has been the perfect owner and the new things she brought to it and especially from Japan have made it even more beautiful and highly personal.

lots of respect to her for not changing the aesthetic. It is beautiful. Her restraint also speaks to her talent as a designer/architect, she was able to bring in some of her own elements and make it all work. What a treasure!

nothing matches, that long beautiful sofa sitting there with those rugs that do absolutely nothing for the room, nor does the other one. The furniture, chairs for instance are all such mismatched colors. I expected it to be decorated really nice but there's no rhyme or reason whatsoever.
@oltedders
@oltedders Жыл бұрын
@@badabing9143 Absolutely correct. This mismatched trend in decor is mind boggling. What's the point? What is there that's interesting about it? Nothing that I can see and I'm no stranger to interior decor, I've studied it for decades. Her interiors look like she emptied out a used furniture store and just piled it in. It's Crap!

What a wonderful tutorial on Frank Lloyd Wright by the homeowner -who is the exact person to own it. Even the circumstances around how she found the home to begin with is a bit of kismet! Her respect and admiration of Frank Lloyd Wright is clear in her preservation of the home. Thank you for this terrific segment of Homeworthy.

The house is beautiful n full of character n d fact that she changed nothing just makes it that much more appealing..I also liked that she focussed more on the architecture n build of the house n the mentions of decor items were minimal..that's how the house tours should be imo..

My mom grew up in the Frank Lloyd Wright house in Highland Park, IL. She has many fond memories of it! And the home was kept in fantastic condition with decor that emphasized the beauty of the home, from all that she's told me. Surprising she grew up to be an interior designer, isn't it? lol

Here in the UK we have listed buildings, I’m pretty sure you should have them over there too. You must get this house protected and make sure nobody can ever do anything to change it, it’s a fantastic place of history that many have tried to replicate in recent times but you’ll never truly get a proper flavour from a mock version.

I'm glad she has kept the house in original condition. There is a reason so many Frank Lloyd Wright houses have become museums: it's to stop people from gutting them. That house looks timeless to me, it doesn't scream 1950s. Eventually people won't be able to guess what period it is from.

I just finished watching this video on my home tv. The home is incredible. The layout is perfect. I too would not change a thing. Watching this video with this beautiful home owner giving the viewers such great information about her home and the architect that designed it was incredible. Most people in todays world don’t want their homes with this style from the past. I appreciate greatly the way things were built back then and how great the workers did there job. You get your floors or tile work done in your home now and in a few months or sooner something comes undone. Notice how this home on the video everything is original tiles and floors done to perfection to make it last throughout the years. The attention to the work in the past is like no other. And the first caretakers of this home loved their home and it definitely shows. It’s truly a beautiful home and it’s furnished perfectly. Love it.

The house has a soul and this makes it special! This proves that if a house is well built that it can last for a long time. This lady’s passion shows in her ‘restraint’ to preserve the house. I like that she talked about some of her personal background as well as the previous owners as one can understand all the thought process that went through the choices/the use of materials,etc. I’ve seen Taliesin West back in 2005 (I was visiting) but didn’t really get to appreciate it that much but now it makes sense to me. After watching this, I get this very satisfied feeling that I get when I watched a very good movie. Very nice presentation! Thank you…

I have an old magazine from 1959 that featured Frank Lloyd Wright, which my Grandmother kept in a drawer. Both my Grandparents loved his style and had this in mind as they had their lake home designed and built. I spend many summers in that lake home in Minnesota and have a soft spot for the style of FLW but of course they were not wealthy, and were frugal. It does not matter with the underpinnings of Wright's style and approach I think. I was told that he also believed that a home should not intrude on its surroundings and should respect and work with them.
