"Seeing how the light is different when your house doesn't have walls anymore can be very inspiring" is easily amongst my Top 5 maker quotes now. 💜
@KerryBenton
@KerryBenton Жыл бұрын
It's really true... almost no one gets to really see what their spaces would look like with maximal light and most of us can't visualize it really. What an absolute dream to be able to see and feel the light and ponder how to use it once the walls inevitably have to go back up.

That’s the architectural challenge, how to visualize space and enclosure simultaneously.

LOL. It made me want to get rid of some of my walls/floors. I've already been toodling on this idea bc when I was in high school, we lived in a house that had a trap door to the basement that I used to jump through. I was thinking I wanted to do that with this house AND THEN thought, "Oh shit we need that for laundry..." AND THEN I thought "Wait it should be an actual laundry chute..." AND THEN I started watching "The Watcher" and thought "No wait it has to be a dumbwaiter..." One way or the other my floors and walls aren't getting out of this entirely whole between my own thought process and Laura LOL.

Felix really needs to be recognized for their cinematography. Today really showed off how strong those skills have developed. Changing exposure when the neon was first turned on was great. The combination of wide and close-up shots during different tasks and effectively showing both the welding and the sparks inside the fire extinguisher were well done, too. It kept things interesting without becoming artsy for artsy sake. All of these things were integral to helping tell the story and keep Laura and Felix themselves highlighted. Great job, Felix!

Nice! ... and so much more!! I love, respect and admire your creativity and positive approach SO SO much, Laura! All of your videos (I've seen a lot of them and have no problem in making this absolute statement) leave all of us with something useful, and in so many ways. How to build, how to solve problems, how to get the job done, how to change gear and direction during the ride, and how to enjoy the ride, enjoy the end result, no matter it's not at all what you had in mind when you started!! All lessons we can use in our lives in so many ways; in our work life, our private life, regarding our choice of partner, how we raise our children, how we interact with our friends, etc. etc. NEVER hold on to an idea, a person or a goal after you realize it's not at all what you thought it would be, and it will not make you (or anyone else) happy. We change. And for sure our goals and our ways to get to the goals we set, change too. And it's OKAY! Mistakes are part of life. They are learning lessons. No need to repeat the same lesson over and over AFTER you've realized they are mistakes and how to avoid making the same or similar mistakes in the future. We have this life only, and it's too short not to find ways to enjoy every single day of it. If you have people around you who want you to do things that don't make you happy, that make you miserable, you need to remove these people and find people who support you and want to see you happy. And it's a lot easier to find good people when you are doing things that make you happy. Negative people inspire us to be negative. Positive, creative, loving, caring, etc. people to be positive, creative, etc. Your life, your choices. We're all given different tools to form and handle our life, and it's up to us to be creative and use these tools the best we can to become the best version of ourselves. With love and respect from Pia (60 years + a few weeks old... and damn, I wish I had taken these advice seriously 40 years, 30 years ago, 20 years ago, 10 years ago, instead of always repeating: "There is lots of time, I'll do it, for sure, ..... later ...." )

Many thanks (and happy to see you walking again)
@DavZell

She can only do this if she starts using PPE in all her videos. Once you take on an instructional role, you have a responsibility to demonstrate safe work processes not only in those videos, but all your content. I'm not harping on Laura - she may have no interest in taking on a role model responsibility and is comfortable with the risks she takes now (see comments on this video about not wearing protection for her eyes while using an angle grinder, for example). But if she started "teaching," she would need to take that seriously.

I'm a geotechnical engineer (I did a focus in engineering geology and geotechnics) working for a specialty deep foundations contractor in heavy civil. I have so little idea about foundations for houses, or even residential buildings, at all!! I'm watching this like... wait you don't have to anchor your foundations to bedrock? I've focused on areas with challenging geomorphologies (landslides, expansive soils, earthquakes, etc.), so only 1 cm of movement happening in 120 years to a house that isn't even attached to it's foundation is unheard of for me! This is really interesting to me!

I'm glad you are having some fun in the workshop and the progress on the house is encouraging! I'm also glad you are taking healing your knee seriously. As someone who wound up having to have two foot/ankle surgeries because she didn't take the first one as seriously as she should have, I can attest that it was very much unfun. Do not recommend! Mojo for great healing!
