For her, this is the opportunity of a lifetime, and she didn't quit no matter what was thrown at her, she also is not likely to quit when she has the lives of people in her hands as the pilot of a shuttle and things look hopeless, that is some Apollo 13 level of grit right there.

So that's why the thyroid stimulant caused her heart to race and induced the synesthesia. Pheochromocytoma is a type of tumor that produces extra adrenaline. Usually on your adrenal glands but sometimes the thyroid and lung. That's probably why she was a really good candidate for the job because the adrenaline helped her be super focused for long periods of time. Her resting heart rate would have been noticeably high all yhe time, though, not just during the test. When you're under stress, producing more adrenaline than ever probably sent her over the edge

So that's why he likes Taub. He found a way to give the patient what she needed and wanted at the same time. Does all of this treatment really only cost $50,000 though? I would have thought it would cost more especially for a sought after diagnostician such as House
@quillmaurer6563
@quillmaurer6563 Жыл бұрын
This took place in 2008, so costs/value of money might have been a little different back then due to inflation and medical costs rising disproportionately fast. Something off the books might be a little cheaper though, as the hospital billing department, profits, overhead, non-medical staff, and so on aren't considered. He did mention it as a good deal for the hospital though, so maybe it was still a net gain. There's also that the show typically seems to downplay the expenses in general, in most cases never mentioning costs even with low-income patients, and sometimes it's mentioned that the hospital provides its services for free.
@Hiraghm
@Hiraghm Жыл бұрын
@@quillmaurer6563 good point. I was once cited a price just for the operating theater for a gall-bladder operation, of $12,500. When they discovered I didn't have insurance, it dropped to $5,400.
@quillmaurer6563
@quillmaurer6563 Жыл бұрын
@@Hiraghm That's another factor - the pricing setup of all this is very weird and often corrupt. Much of the time I think the hospital charges what they think they can get, not what it actually costs. A common practice I've heard of is that doctors or hospitals will request a huge and totally unreasonable cost, the insurance will refuse to pay that much or a patient will be unable. The doctor/hospital agrees to a far lower price (what it really should have been to begin with, or perhaps still unreasonably high) and declare the difference a loss on their taxes. Often the originally stated price is several times what they actually get, thus their "losses" is greater than their income. So what it actually is in the end is tax fraud. I'm not aware of that practice being done in any other industry.

This is also a teaching hospital and house used her for "educational purposes". Prices in cash are also incredibly different than using an insurance as each insurance has a different deal worked out with each hospital or line of clinics and hospitals. The fact is that due to these major billing issues hospitals are required to supply people with a quote for hos much a procedure or scan like an MRI, X-Ray, etc. would cost at their facility so people can shop for health care like people shop for every other service available to us. Due to her being used for "teaching purposes" the money may have gone as a gift to the hospital to overlook certain things while the hospital wiped the bill for it being for educational purposes only as she wanted it to be "off the books".

No symptoms are shared; if they didn't keep saying "Tuberous Sclerosis": no one would ever think it was. The confounding thing is that they never needed to give it a name at all, but the writer picked one at random: and it was one which shared 0 symptoms.

Lol, if you ask me her trying to do all that without anybody knowing is extremely wrong. She's willing to put people in danger and put them in situations they don't want to be in just so she can continue flying. She has more of an ego than house.

Because it would've been so much trouble to wheel her out of the hyperbaric chamber before using the AED. Also, that is not how fire sprinklers work. They don't turn on until a plastic piece melts from the heat of the fire.

Tesla has a unit of energy named after him. He gets all the credit he deserves. He wasn’t by any means business savvy, he doesn’t deserve financial prosperity. Not to mention some of his ideas were straight up dangerous and insane.

Tesla was an idiot who claimed atoms didn't exist, claimed a bird was in love with him and thought ionizing the atmosphere in a way that would kill people very quickly was a good idea, among other insane things. He's not somebody to be taking seriously about anything

A hyperbaric chamber has more oxygen than the normal atmosphere. Oxygen is highly flammable. The sparks from the defibrillator, if they landed on her clothes or bedsheets, could start a fire very quickly in an oxygen-rich hyperbaric chamber.

@Andrew B Oxygen isn't flammable but it's highly oxidative. With that high a concentration of oxygen, anything becomes flammable though.

High levels of Oxygen in the air will cause just about anything to combust. And those paddles can cause sparks, usually so small you cannot see them (there is electricity jumping the gap from the paddle to the skin). With the Oxygen concentrated in that room, the hair on your skin would burn strongly.

Every other reply is wrong. The substance that incinerated is ligma. a hyperbaric chamber is loaded with ligma particles everywhere.

Let's be clear on this. Oxygen is not combustible nor flammable. Oxygen "supports" combustion but will not burst into flame on its own. You can hold a cigarette up to an oxygen line and the only effect will be the cigarette burning brighter and hotter. An ignition source and fuel are still needed. The ignition source being the electric current from the paddles. The fuel being the cloth, skin, or hair on her skin. Each of you before me had pieces but not the full picture.

Soldiers and people with high levels of discipline, or other types of result-driven people... they seem to love House every time they appear in the show. Which makes a lot of sense. Not saying I personally feel he is the best doctor ever, but he does deserve a lot of respect for his results alone.
