The main areas of my home I spend time in, my living room and bedroom, both have north facing, small windows, so are always dark other than first thing in the morning. The plants in these rooms are apologised to every day 😂.

My den and living room have north facing windows as well. They are tall windows, but our oak trees block a lot of sunlight. My zz and pothos are sitting on plant stands and are holding their own. They grow super slow, but they’re still alive. lol

I have north windows and grow all sorts of things. I just am lucky enough to have wider window sills so all plants are grown right against the windows and they thrive! I can even grow some succulents without them stretching out! Now if I tried to place anything not in the window sills they die a slow death but my window sills look like a jungle with a wide variety of plants in them.

I disagree with the zplant because they grow in bright indirect light in african countries.The lack of light is probably why yours grow so slow.They also like moist (not wet or dry) well draining soil (cactus and succulent mix is best.)

@@couch_philosoph3325 I agree.A friend who has been living in her private indoor and outdoor jungle for over 40 years and who manages a garden centre gave me the tip to get one of these multiple coloured plant lights. And it works well.No legged plants for over a year now :).I even tried it on my oldest two plants who are 40 years and these plant lights worked well with them.

Q&A: You always seem to do your own thing, when it comes to content & plant choices. I've noticed a lot of channels tend to put out similar content at the same time. Is this just people riding whatever trend/hype train for views/subs? Or, do grower/sellers reach out to creators to push certain plants/products? Have you ever felt pressured by a potential large sponsor, to make a video about something you're not into? Don't have to name names. But, by all means, spill the tea 🙂

Amazingly my Tiger fern (I believe it is similar to a Boston feern) is over two years old and is thriving. I think that I have it in a place in my home that it loves. It does need frequent watering.

About a zz plant. Mine stood collecting dust in my dark apartment for a year. It didn't die or look worse, but it also didn't grow. I had to leave for two months and brought all my plants to my mother. My zz was put in a corners of a room with two huge windows ( one east facing, one southern). It started growing 5 new leafs like in two weeks. And they grew super fast and super big. So it might be a good idea to put your zz plant in a bright indirect light location for couple of months a year. Mine is a zz raven.

Q&A: Are there guidelines around when to repot plants, and does it have any relation to the growing season? Are there also optimal times for fertilizing / when is it necessary?
@fredruss5058
@fredruss5058 3 жыл бұрын
Fertilizer in spring/summer so May-Sept. always use half the recommended amount when using liquid fertilizer. I cut the recommended dose in half and mix with water. About repotting, wait until the plant is really root bound. If it’s a new plant and you want to put it in a cute new pot. Put the plant where you want in your home, wait a week or two so not can adjust and then report. However, I have repotted right away because I’m impatient lol No real issues yet. I hope this helps :)

Q/A what are your thoughts on the succulent industry, particularly now that people have started taking succulents from their natural areas? Q/A. If there’s a plant at a plant small business, or a plant that is cheaper in Facebook marketplace, do you have a preference?

Hi Nick! Q&A: Since you've lived alone a few months now, do you miss having a roommate, and does Muffin seem more content without another cat around? This was another great video! I haven't tried it yet, but I'm so tempted to try a small ZZ plant in my bathroom with no window. I've had a couple of the Kangaroo Paw ferns, but lost them. I don't think I was consistent enough with watering them. I have a couple of Aglaonema. One has a lot of pink in the leaves and the other is mostly green (not doing very well). I'd love to find the chocolate one. I'd love to find the Pellionia pulchra, too. It's such a cute little plant. And of course, I LOVE my ZZ plants! I think a Q&A would be great! The other ?????'s I would ask have already been asked below and I gave them a thumbs up. Thank you so much for sharing!

From my experience with ZZ plant, I don't think it's really a low light plant. It just store lots of energy in its rhizome and react to low-light condition very slowly. Mine was putting out healthy new leaves at first, then after three or four months, his new leaves got thin and leggy, difficult to stand. Then after another a few months, he stopped putting out new leaves completely. I relocated his pot to a sunny west-facing window sill and it took 2 months for him to recover. Btw, very healthy zz plants have these stunning, almost patent leather like, very shinny thick leaves. The leaves on your zz plant didn't shine like they could.

ZZ watering tip: watch the "potatoes". Leave a little bit of the tubers out of the soil so you can see them. Water when the tubers get wrinkly. If it's been a month and the tubers are still plump and shiny, the plant is not thirsty and you should just ignore it. Come back and check next week 😂

For ur Q&A Video; If u could only have 5 plants in each room of ur Apt or house, keeping in mind which direction each room's windows face, what would they be for each room? (i.e. Kitchen, living room, master bedroom, guest room, bathroom, dinning room, etc...) Just curious, I know u seem 2 b partial 2 Hoya's & u do seem 2 change, or add to, ur list of favorite plants occasionally. 💖

Nick have you done a video about plants that are a no no for homes with pets? If not, that would be very helpful to me! I have all these species I want to get but I'm very nervous about what I should and shouldn't have with my extremely curious mischievous kitty. I suppose I could probably Google them but figured you might have a bit more insight and knowledge than boring old google. Thanks for your videos I've been on a binge for a couple days now! Loving your channel!!

Q&A: Do you think there is such a thing as too many houseplants? How do you (or do you?) regulate your purchasing habits? There are too many cool plants and I find myself wanting to try them all, which is not feasible in my little apartment

Oh Nick, I am so happy you made this video! I have several darker areas in my home that really need plants but, after much research, all I found was the same old stuff like snake plants, ZZs and Monstera deliciosa (go figure! 🙄). I’m absolutely delighted with the selection you gave us! And, I just picked up a Pellionia Pulchra last weekend (had never seen it before) so I’m already working on my low light game. Thanks Nick!! 🥰
