The main areas of my home I spend time in, my living room and bedroom, both have north facing, small windows, so are always dark other than first thing in the morning. The plants in these rooms are apologised to every day 😂.

I love how the ZZ is the survivor in the dark. My non-plant husband wanted a houseplant and he literally keeps his ZZ in a corner of the bedroom.

Yes!!! Don’t see a ton of people talk about aglaonemas but they are my favorite plant type! So easy, minimal light and water and they all thrive for me!!

Not so much Q.A. but another option for no light situations. I gave a fake succulant plant to someone and they thought it was real, watered it for 2 years!! 🪴🤣 it even had fake roots. I put my Scindapsus Exotica under a grow light for 12 hrs a day and it grows fast. I want mine to be bigger like one of the KZfaqrs (Harli) has on top of her bookshelves. I think hers is the best Exotica of all.

Aglaonema is my all time favorite genus! I have a ZZ next to (not even in) my North facing window. I live in Northern New England so light is especially low in winter. That baby put out SEVEN new stems this summer without any fertilizer!

Are there different care requirements for brand new plants depending on the season and are there plants that have better availability or will be in better shape if I buy them at a certain time of the year? Aglaonemas are my favorite. Out of my 85 plants I have 18 varieties of Aglaonemas including the ones you showed us. ZZ are great too. I have green, raven, and zenzi. I am a pandemic plant parent….just since June 2020. I have Pothos and Scindapsus also. But thanks for the info on the other plants. I was not aware of them being low light tolerant. 😀🪴

Love aglaonemas and calatheas, and though both have absolutely gorgeous foliage, they couldn't be far apart in care. One can survive a long time without water(aglaonemas) and the other need moist soil continuously (calatheas). I have them both, and I love them both.

I love zz plants because they do well over a wide range of light conditions. My zz plant gets a few hours of direct sun during winter (due to where it is) and it loves it. Have also kept it in super low light and it also did fine. Great plant. I'm looking for the Raven cultivar.

You have made my day. I have had a kangaroo paw fern for years, never knew what it was called and never could find it online for info. It has had 9 lives and recently moved from a north facing window in MA to a west facing balcony in TX so is completely freaked out. I love this fern, at its happiest it has been 2.5 feet wide so I am very grateful to finally know how to find care info. I'm not a fern person but this one is my pal. Thanks!

i moved and was exhausted, left a ZZ in the garage...BY ACCIDENT. totally forgot about it. 4 months later, go back in the garage. that sucker was fine. i couldnt believe it lol. shes still going strong today

I adore my Kangaroo Paw fern. She is four years old and rather huge. I also have a Blue Star fern that is thriving. Another fern that does great for me are my Staghorns. Amazingly my Tiger fern (I believe it is similar to a Boston feern) is over two years old and is thriving. I think that I have it in a place in my home that it loves. It does need frequent watering.

About a zz plant. Mine stood collecting dust in my dark apartment for a year. It didn't die or look worse, but it also didn't grow. I had to leave for two months and brought all my plants to my mother. My zz was put in a corners of a room with two huge windows ( one east facing, one southern). It started growing 5 new leafs like in two weeks. And they grew super fast and super big. So it might be a good idea to put your zz plant in a bright indirect light location for couple of months a year. Mine is a zz raven.

Some succulents can adapt to very low light conditions. Specially stuff like the aloe Vera. Seriously, that plant thrives in places where other "low light" plants die out

Speaking a light... have you done a video on grow lights? What kind, where it works best and what plants would like it or not.

I am going to put my scindapsus pictus on shelf in darker place now :) i was looking for good place and now i got idea. I would also add jewel orchids, they do best in my home in bathroom in northern window, but they like humidity.

I was having issues with my pothos exotica and you literally answered all my questions. I find it so cool how houseplants speak to us, I knew about dropping leaves needing water for pothos and philodendron. I didn't know leaves curl to show they need water. This was such a great and informative video. I would love a video in which you talk about how different plants communicate for a need for more sunlight or water or need fertilizer. You can discuss the plant species and the specific signs, that would be so cool.

Q&A: Do you have any plant that is considered easy by the community but you can't keep alive?

That pellionia goes so well with the piper ornatum in the background. I have and love both of them with pellionia definitely being such an underrated plant. It roots so easily with even one node cuttings. I'm now considering trying some new "terrarium" plants like marcgravia to see if they are as easy as pellionia.

Q&A! What's the secret to spider plants? Everyone tells me they're easy, and I love them, but mine always die. I've tried every combination of things.

I bought an Aglaonema last summer, forgot about it for about 10 months (it was the only plant I got because I wanted too see if I liked having plants) and then remembered it during the spring this year, it had like 2 leaves left and basically no roots. I replanted it and it is growing like weed, sprouting new leaves all the time.

I have Microsorom at work. On hudge NW window, Plant has biggest leafes toward office /away from window. So I confirm it doesent like a lot of light that much ;)

I love your honesty and I chuckle at your distaste for calathea, especially Ornata. I've had one for about 2 months and your right..its very picky like its too good to be in my house. It loses a leaf then gains a leaf. Makes no sense to me. 🤪

I find scindapsus are so picky for me! They're healthy as far as I know, but in low light their leaves are suuper small and they skip nodes really often. I know the leaves can improve if given something to climb, but I'm stubborn and don't wanna do that haha

I have cut back my aglonema many times and have made so many new plants that I have given away. My most prolific one is red and green. My green and silver one seems to be a slower grower

I spent some time in Costa Rica doing ecology research, and you can find crabs in bromeliad tanks every now and then! Frogs are much more common

I also have a kangaroo paw fern that stays on my patio all year - I live in Houston and only bring it in the few days our temps go below freezing

My first question is : plant collecting and growing has become a real and probaly the only sustained hobby of mine but I find that this is a really lonely hobby. Do you find that too or is there some way that you connect regularly with nearby plant enthusiests? Also a second question is : when I first started getting into plants i thought monsteras and sanseverias were the ugliest looking plants and didnt understand what the hype was. Hi Nick! Q&A: Since you've lived alone a few months now, do you miss having a roommate, and does Muffin seem more content without another cat around? This was another great video! I haven't tried it yet, but I'm so tempted to try a small ZZ plant in my bathroom with no window. I've had a couple of the Kangaroo Paw ferns, but lost them. I don't think I was consistent enough with watering them. I have a couple of Aglaonema. One has a lot of pink in the leaves and the other is mostly green (not doing very well). I'd love to find the chocolate one. I'd love to find the Pellionia pulchra, too. It's such a cute little plant. And of course, I LOVE my ZZ plants! I think a Q&A would be great! From my experience with ZZ plant, I don't think it's really a low light plant. It just store lots of energy in its rhizome and react to low-light condition very slowly. Mine was putting out healthy new leaves at first, then after three or four months, his new leaves got thin and leggy, difficult to stand. Then after another a few months, he stopped putting out new leaves completely. I relocated his pot to a sunny west-facing window sill and it took 2 months for him to recover. Btw, very healthy zz plants have these stunning, almost patent leather like, very shinny thick leaves. The leaves on your zz plant didn't shine like they could.

Q&A: What was the catalyst for your passion for houseplants?

You and Drew of Lone Fox need to collab. I dunno how or in what form, but the two of you in a collab would be hella cool.

ZZ watering tip: watch the "potatoes". Leave a little bit of the tubers out of the soil so you can see them. Water when the tubers get wrinkly. If it's been a month and the tubers are still plump and shiny, the plant is not thirsty and you should just ignore it. Come back and check next week 😂

For ur Q&A Video; If u could only have 5 plants in each room of ur Apt or house, keeping in mind which direction each room's windows face, what would they be for each room? (i.e. Kitchen, living room, master bedroom, guest room, bathroom, dinning room, etc...)
