That thing was deeper in the ground than most fence posts are above the ground.

That’s the standard way of setting fences with hardwood posts in this area in The Netherlands.

Also in Canada! If you don't dig it past the frost line then in the winter the water beneath the post freezes and heaves the post up.

@@Methodical2 bet it could, but the footing is close to the post. So if the concrete would bee underneath the footing of the post puller it wouldn’t work well.
