US: smaller landing craft for tactical deployment of sufficient number of armor and infantry for the theater of war. Russia: deploys an entire battalion. Jokes aside, the US clearly got more experience with naval invasion with the infamous D-Day in Europe and island hopping campaign against the Japanese, as well as the multiple naval landing done throughout the 20th century as part of international interventionism. Russia meanwhile is a land based power for most of history as it makes sense why they’d prioritize deploying large number of men and equipment at the same time aligned with their doctrine.

Are they sea worthy? I know the American hovercraft is used to transport things from ship to shore, but the Russian one is a ship of it’s own. Does it need to be shipped closer to where it get deployed or can it go anywhere it is needed?

@@Kishanth.Jif you mean autonomous route from kaliningrad to any german or sweden port its able to do it with full load. Same for a turkish shores from Sevastopol. This class of a ship was consructed for a mass landing operations in soviet doctrines. So they are. They are many of other hovercrafts in army not only zubr class. Btw zubr used by the greece army with same purposes for a future conflict with turkish army for the northern cyprus - fast and rapid island to island landing operations.

I know it has tremendous range for a hovercraft of that size but it still a hovercraft, so it range isn’t huge, compared to a ship, and it huge so transporting it looks difficult.

A good modern hovercraft should be sized and streamlined. which America has been successful in designing the piece While the Russian Hovercraft is a design stuck in the Cold War era or the end of WW2, however, I still can't help but be amazed at how immense the Russian Hovercraft is. It's like combining Hovercraft with a battleship. It was able to operate completely alone. It was like a demon of the end of strength creeping up from the ocean. It will frighten the opposers. It's pure will. Antique design will always impress you. Like the iowa's 406mm cannon, it is many times more impressive than modern cruise missiles.

They’re not as crucial anymore because of man portable anti ship missiles. Literally the Osprey aircraft are doing a lot of the same work for the marines and they got rid of their tanks. Now the heaviest vehicles are the fighting vehicles so the smaller hovercraft are appropriate.

The Zubr (the Russian one in this vid) is the just the LARGEST of the Russian LCACs in service and yes there are only ten of them. But they are augmented by many smaller classes such as the Aist-class, Gus-class, Tsaplya-class LCAC (most modern behind the Zubr, South Korea has three in service), and the Lebed-class which is the oldest.

не ну, у Американцев есть целый флот УДК и ДВКД, и таких вот десантно высадочных средств. Но у них и концепция применения флота иная, Америке просто необходимо иметь только флот, России же нет, мы сухопутная держава, и у нас ставки делались и делаются больше на подводный флот сдерживания. Хотя свои первые УДК уже строим в Крыму)
