Traditional prosthetics can cost thousands of dollars and need to be replaced as children grow. A group of volunteers is using open-source technology and 3-D printers to provide free prosthetic hands for children and adults who need them. In this short from filmmaker Charlie Nordstrom, learn about e-NABLE, the organization behind the idea. Hear from Kieran, a child whose life has been improved by the device, and see the whole process unfold at Autodesk, a creative workshop in San Francisco.

I love the look of them, neat colors and designs. Like they said, I agree and I think it's really neat how they purposefully don't make the prosthetics look like "real" hands/arms

Puts a beautiful shine on the phrase, "giving somebody a hand." It's amazing how much 3D printing has done and is capable of doing. From hobbies who print a million benchies to the medical industry doing stuff like this. It's incredible.

Our grandson has no left hand from above the elbow. Our son has formed a charity in Poland to build these 3D printed hands for children. it’s called “Hands on”. It’s partly funded by the Rotary club in Poland.

They said that it costs less than $100 to print. Factor in labor, electricity, buildings and other miscellaneous costs and it probably costs $175-$200. Even if they sold them for a profit at $300-$400, it's still $1000s cheaper than the alternative. They could use the profits to expand production and provide it to children worldwide, having more of these in the hands of kids (get it, in the 'hands' of kids). It's still great that they are doing it for free though.

my friend invented a stick for blind people that ’visualizes’ the surroundings by using a proximity sensor and vibration. He is a blind person 100%, first tests were successful, following two weeks he will be testing it in the metro stations to check the performance of the device in other life situations. Could be of help to all visially impaired people. Another invention for non-profit.

no its not solid weight suspension supported. its just a helping hand but if you want more protection well i recommend talking to a prosthetic engineer specialist to use from steel, stainless steel, partially aluminum, or layered from titanium to platinum to steel is also now possible but takes about two weeks for the machine to finish printing which is far more faster than sketching alone and designing with a doubt of success or failure which requires retrying all part designing and functions. also you would need to be a fairly good titled in a job to have a great pay to order the prosthetic custom of your liking. the price ranges from $10,200 per single prosthetic or higher price depending if its your custom of wanting to add a heavy prosthetic ofcourse heavy requires spinal support for the user and requires the user to be in a correct eligible age weight diet. to be able to use custom prosthetics. also some millionaires like buying these for their grandfathers that are seniors and need spinal support so they simply order a stainless steel exo spinal support suit. may be useful for some seniors but not all. some old people also tend to bitch about how technology is a disgrace to humanity. haha how utterly stupid are you people, if you want to live you have to survive if you want to survive you have to evolve if you want to evolve you need to reach your requirements. many people dont understand if you decide you dont wanna use the futures present technology that is helping hand for everyone. well appreciate mankind has created this for their and other species support in missing limbs or body muscle problems. well either you evolve with us or you can stay behind and not upgrade your life support. haha you people should know if you dont wanna take part in evolution well soon if you wanna or dont wanna you'll still strive in a forgotten timeline that for your eradicating mind against others you'll simply be to us a Ancient relic from a forgotten timeline. dont even bother protesting no one cares about protests thats why voting was created if you wanna protest well hellafuck are you doing in the street being a 7 year old chocalate selling brat that wants a forgotten glory to be relived haha not everyone is going to want to relive the past cause technology is helping us its not making us more stupid well haha Einstein was correct that this would happen well either way you cant stop evolution if you do every hard work life time or life giving for each project thats been successful and we've been living off of these brilliant people creations. why would you try wasting our time in a useless debate. haha our idea now is to say oh yeah yeah yeah ok lets go over here and we will take care of that. haha ofcourse the sarcasm haha you think were going to listen to random people over something that actually helps its own species. its like for example you people are all protesting against prosthetics and prosthetics helps people it doesnt kill what are you a 1 year old that says no to everything and thinks because if you cry youre able to convince others to give you what you want. haha please stop say no mas ✋. we dont act in letting protests do what they want if they wanna protest well go protest by going to a vote site. and lets see if you really want to let politics see people that are old are the wisest or nicest or patient. hah so many words to describe how some old people are nice now but some are very spoiled and react with bad manners. hmmm well evolution aint it a beautiful addition to all life forms. btw if you stay in the past not everyone is going to stay so think twice before acting like infant.
