How a K-Pop Obsessed Support God Stanned NewJeans So Hard He Won Worlds

Inspiration can come from all sorts of places.
Whether is CS:GO, League or Valorant, pros can be driven by anything by the desire to be the best to getting revenge on their haters.
But going into Worlds 2023, League of Legends superstar Ryu "Keria" Min-Seok had a little extra motivation.
Sure, he wanted to win, but he also wanted to meet his favourite K-Pop idols. NewJeans were performing at Worlds, and he was ready to push his limits, both to lift the trophy and to get his merch signed.
So, how does one of the greatest League players in the world go from crying on stage to stanning his idols before lifting the trophy? Why does League’s mechanical king play support of all roles? And did Keria get to finally live out his dream of hanging out with Kpop stars?

Last year's run for T1, "The last light of the LCK burns bright in Busan" is at the top of my list for me, folowed by "It is not LPL vs LCK, it is T1 vs the LPL and they like those odds!". The line "last light of LCK..." wasn't given the spotlight it should have, I PERSONALLY feel that line is ONE OF THE BEST in last year's worlds.

If he plays at about the same level he has in the last 3 years (averaged, not peak), he could win 0 trophies and will still be the best. Trophies matter somewhat but they don't make or break greatness, longevity at the highest level does.

@@blobitz9648fair enough, i agree with the longevity, but i do think a few more trophies will help. his skillset is just unmatched. hope he stays in form (and selfishly, in t1) for a long long time and becomes immortal as a support.

@@forg_tful. I don't disagree at all. More trophies can only be a good thing and they certainly show aspects of greatness like clutch factor. I just hope that if he plays out the rest of his career at his current stellar level and somehow sadly doesn't win, history doesn't ignore him as the Goat support because I think he'll still deserve it.

True, it’s crazy how Keria’s hard work to win a Worlds title is totally overshadowed by his side passion in the eyes of journalists and fans. Keria has always stated that his main goal was to win multiple World Championships and to be remembered as the best but somehow because Keria likes Kpop and NewJeans it has become his only narrative for western fans…

It's really unfortunate that Riot does not let World winners pick skins for champs they did not play at Worlds. I get wanting the skins to represent moments at that year's biggest event, but I feel like winners should be able to choose champs that represent themselves best. Not everyone is Faker who'll get multiple skins, for most pros this is a one-time-thing. They should be allowed to cement their legacy in any way they wish.

I disagree, that will make world skin less prestigious if players can choose any champ. But I frown at riot refusing some champ skin requested by player due to their skin future plan. It's difficult enough to win it, then they can't even pick what they've played.

It is a mistake to say that support doesnt require as much skill as other roles...supports then to use like 4 activation items, keep warding score, fight vision, score hard skillshots meanwhile giving space to the adc, I think its one of the most complicated roles to play
