When global leaders think about which industries can fuel economic growth, the arts are often overlooked. But filmmaker Mehret Mandefro says the creative sector actually has the power to grow economies -- while also helping safeguard democracy. In this captivating talk, she shares a behind-the-scenes look at how she's putting culture back on the economic agenda in Ethiopia, and explains why other countries would benefit from doing the same.
The TED Talks channel features the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). Look for talks on Technology, Entertainment and Design -- plus science, business, global issues, the arts and more. Amazing amazing, I definitely agree, cuddles to you doc and the team, indeed with out art the civic movement around the world wouldn't have taken flight. It's with such opinions that change is ignited. And I appreciate the fact that she's investing in the future generations which are the youth of our time. Thank you so very much for the great glorius impact in Ethiopia.

Excellent presentarion, and your argument makes great sense! The creative industry is really important for the economic growth but it needs support as well as it takes time to see tangible outcome~!

Not everything can be supported only in industry. The industry homogenizes and makes invisible what does not have a market and a good part of the arts and culture are not designed for the market.

WHAT IF, able/reliable workers lived near (assigned home priority) or "swapped" houses to be closer to their "permanent" fixed-site jobs to save gas or use none at all to get to work? Edit: I posted on two groups/channels. Like hermit crabs that swap shells

I certainly won't be a millionaire at the end of this bull Run, however I had 35k invested 6 months ago in Bitcoin, I'm sitting at 470k now with 50% in eth and 20% in other alts... So I'm very happy and thankful to Jessica Parido who made this possible, maybe next time I'll have enough to become a millionaire 🙃

Some nice ideas but I cannot help but to down vote a video about "helping economy thrive by helping sector x" without any metrics on how large the sector it talks about is, how many jobs could it create, or absolutely any sense of scale on how large a percentage of the economy are we talking about. Ok video undermined by a misleading title.

I don't think that diversity is preserved by people living next to diverse people. Diversity is created by clean borders and people who DON'T learn diversity but rather travel to see it and then learn. The fact that you and me are different is diverse, the more similar we are and the better we get along, the less diverse we are.

Why would she specifically reference the 2018 unemployment numbers? Because Trump lowered those numbers in 2019, and that doesn't fit into her narrative of oppression. How can we listen to people who manipulate facts.
