When buying a suit or blazer follow these simple steps to make sure you get the proper fit every time. If you're buying off the rack make sure to save $20-$40 for tailoring to make sure the fit is perfect. As always, we recommend going with a made to measure option if you can. Great video. I'm just getting into sewing menswear and there is so much I don't know. I've been sewing my own clothes for years but now my husband has interest in custom clothing, too. He needs a spring/summer blazer so I'm starting with that. He's tall and slim so most ready-to-wear mens blazers are too short in the arms and torso. The big and tall stuff mostly just comes in bigger sizes, and I'd have to tailor it anyways...might as well just make it from scratch! So videos like this are super helpful for me when I'm taking measurements for him. thanks!

Great vid. You should do a video on how to fit a suit to different types of bodies - I just got a job in a menswear store and I'm often coming across all sorts of shapes and sizes that don't fit jackets as well and I'm having trouble finding the right one and suggesting which alterations to do

I think the problem is not the tightness of the jacket, it is bad style. The button is too high on the jacket fastening with low rise pants. This gives a gap at the bottom which ruins the look of the outfit.

THIS. If you want to have a jacket with a high buttoning point, you need high waisted trousers. With a lower buttoning point, medium or low waisted trousers are acceptable.

I think you might be confusing the terms sport coat/sport jacket and blazer. Which are similar but different.

Thanks for the tips, clear and short. Have you thought how much you think fair for a suit, to be considered generally a quality suit on a budget. $400, 600? Also the shirt color is really nice, never thought I'd look around for one next time I'm shopping.
