"tragic mistake." Is that what we call war crimes now?
@namesurname9105
@namesurname9105 2 жыл бұрын
Missing a target due to faulty intelligence or mechanical errors (factors that are beyond the military's control) is not a war crime, purposely killing non-combatants is. The US military doesn't get anything out of killing innocent civilians so they're certainly not doing it on purpose, however we can all agree that these easily preventable "mistakes" occur way too often and are likely caused by operator fatigue and faulty intelligence.
@jessez8503
@jessez8503 2 жыл бұрын
@@namesurname9105 Would we accept "faulty intelligence" and "mechanical failures" as valid excuses if Russia or China did this? I doubt we would. We would be releasing statements condemning them and there would be some sanctions on the people involved. Who has been held accountable this time? This isn't the first time this has happened,at what point does something that keeps happening stop being an accident? Does the military have a culture that doesn't value non American lives? This an institution that let a man who took pictures with the dead body of a man he had tortured to death walk without facing any real consequences and i still don't know what happened to that gunman who shot a journalist from a helicopter and it's over a decade since it happened. The military might not have an incentive to commit war crimes but it has fostered the type of culture that has lead to wars crime being committed,and the only reason they're not called as such is because they control the narrative.

@namesurname9105 2 жыл бұрын
@@jessez8503 I'm not trying to justify the US military's actions, nor am I saying that because it was likely a mistake, nobody should be held accountable. Regardless of what the cause was, the wrongdoer must be punished.

@@namesurname9105 I think those are poor excuses. Humans make errors, yes, but if a leader does not implement processes to mitigate these errors--especially when the impact is the potential loss of innocent life--that's an abdication of responsibility. You can't launder wrongful killing by saying, "erp it was a mistake" especially when any reasonable observer would have low, if any, confidence in intel analysis that can't realize, hmm, maybe the man is carrying water jugs, not bombs.

Not trying to get political either, but it’s pretty well known that the Taliban/ISIS/and others inflate civilian casualties and often claim women/children deaths. Even if the persons weren’t associated with them, they will use them for their propaganda. Take everything with a gain of salt. *EDIT:* I’m not belittling what occurred, I only say this because the journalists are likely getting approval from Taliban affiliates in order to get this kind of access, therefore, it’s filtered through them.

Remember all those weapons of "Mass Destruction" that were never found. Just another example of how bad Military "Intelligence" is. what's the point of such journalism when their leaders don't care at all and continue doing whatever suits them , its another great tactic of America , attack a country in name of developing it , drops missiles and then let your journalism wash your hands saying " see how independent our journalism is" ,while the leadership don't even care , hypocrites , they scream about women rights , while countries like Pakistan, India , Bangladesh, had and have women Prime minters and presidents , America continues to be ruled by patriarchy , They shout about civil rights while being a country with worse civil disorder , abusing other countries for developing nuclear weapons and forgetting they are the only one who used a nuclear bomb and is responsible for millions of deaths , America created Taliban, they still eye on resources of other countries and thinking they have a monopoly on everything even the moon. why anything against American government is never reveled by any other international news agency ? because America don't let them ! This is their common practice making their own media question them before any other country try to do ! and if they do , just declare them terrorist nation and invaded and let your civilians think they are paying taxes because their soldiers are at war , in few years America will invade some other country because they need to keep the cycle running

This is literally no different than mocking someone with autism, and I find it *highly* disturbing that you people are trying to normalise this kind of disgraceful behaviour. If you're asking what "excuse" I have for Biden with this particular bombing incident; as the Commander in Chief, Biden is responsible for any and all military engagements that result in loss of life. Much in the same way that Trump was responsible for the largest single catastrophic loss of life since the invasion of Iraq, killing 278 civilians and injuring thousands more in a single airstrike in Mosul in 2017.

The New York Times does plenty of original journalism of top notch quality. What the military announces should be covered as what the military has announced. If you want to take that as fact, that's up to you or you can take it as not fact. It doesn't change the fact that the military made the announcement.

@@gonzalojimenezdequesada9443 Muslims are generally some of the chillest people you'll ever meet. You're just conflating all Muslims with some extremists. And what you said goes against the Quran anyways, Muslims are chill about religious differences. The Quran says to show respect to the ahl al-kitāb/'People of the Book' meaning Christians, Jewish people, and in modern usage, includes other monotheistic religions. For other religions and atheists, the Quran says "I do not worship what you worship, nor do you worship what I worship. I will never worship what you worship, nor will you ever worship what I worship. You have your way, and I have my Way.” The Quran also forbids forced conversion. "There shall be no compulsion in religion." Any quotes besides these are about the wars of the time, taken out of context, and mistranslated or misrepresented by both anti-Islamic bigots and Islamic extremists for their causes.
