I've learned how to bake delicious bread on the griddle top entirely w/o electricity - just in case we needed to when the power goes out during storms. Another reason why we love our stove.

One of the best (if not THE best) wood stove on the market. We love ours for may reasons, but the most important - it works! Top load, bottom ash clean-out, great looks. Best of all: Build Quality.

@Will Swift One of them, yes. Stove can be loaded either from the front (messy) or from the top (best option). This feature along with the bottom ash clean out makes these stoves the best (imo) on the market. That and the cast iron construction and the beautiful styling. They make other stoves look like ugly, square, steel boxes.

I can only hope our 2019 model will last us as long. Our old earth stove lasted 40 years. This is a better stove in certain ways.

I have a 1979 Resolute that looks and operates just like new. My homeowners insurance said I could get a small discount if I removed it. Not a chance!

i'm french; vermont casting had know kipping the design of old europe style (thanks) ; i have a "vigilant" ; it's wonderfull ! je suis français; vermont casting a su conserver le style ancien de la vieille europe (merci) ; j'ai un vigilant; il est magnifique !

I have the resolute acclaim stove. Everyone that comes to my house asks if that is an antique stove. If they see it in use then they love it.

Love my Vigilant. Heats A-frame wonderfully. Not sure what year it is, my parents had installed in 1985.

We own a defiant model 1975. It came with house. Getting new gaskets and a new paint job. Wish I can find some glass doors for it.

I love my 1978 Vermont Castings vigilant !a but...hard to get parts for it. The ash fettle has burned through twice. So sorry there was no ash drawer in this model...quite a chore running it 24/7.

I think the ash-clean out feature on the newer models (our Defiant is a 2019 model) is the best feature on this stove. We are able to clean-out the ash safely and quickly while the stove is still burning and heating our home. The stove does not go out for weeks at a time when the weather is cold like now (December). Build quality is outstanding, too.

Does any one have an idea of how was the enameling on the old cooking stoves applied? That was a very thick layer. I'm inclined to believe it was not sprayed, but could be wrong. I have read about a glass frit and slurry but there is not any literature on it. If someone can point me to some reading material I would be grateful.

5:41 Your driller has no eye protection, the Two men spray painting with no Personal protective equipment , Not even a painters mask .Whoa 7:17 smoke test ! Employee has no mask nor in vacuum chamber to remove smoke .. ??? I was told Vermont Castings are the BEST stove to buy today ! I need a new stove .. But I think you need to rethink the way your employees are working !! I may have to keep looking !!

Its such a shame that he sold the company and his quality stoves went down hill, the castings are beautiful and timeless but the VC internal components are less then desirable for the average stove owner, re-factory that breaks and very expensive to fix, plus for the lack of better terms the new company does not have good customer service, they just want money and product to go out the door.

@Will Swift each stove has its pros and cons, for myself I run a BK princess free standing stove, for a new stove, I'd like to see traditional stove casting, thermostat ran hybrid, loading N/S 20" splits in the 3.5 cu ft fire box, ash pan setup like woodstock progress w/ convective jacket and blower setup.

The Radiance is not a wood stove. For the record just saying. The Radiance is a large direct vent gas stove, and used to have a vent free cousin.

Bought an Encore model, had almost a year. Vermont Casting is NOT the quality it used to be since the company was bought out. Literally falling apart. 100% NO support if you try to contact the company, not even an email contact. Insulation, glass on door fall off as they are poorly attached. The bypass lever on the right side does not work properly. Almost all the nuts, bolts, screws were loose when I received it. Buyer beware, they are just throwing theses stoves together as fast and cheap and expensive as possible.

BRANDMADE.TV Not this model in particular, but any of the Vermont Castings cast stoves with sheet metal parts were a pain. The Paris, KY factory was not equipped with the correct tools to properly manufacture the parts. But Hearth and Home Technologies (that owns the VC brand and the Monessen and Majestic brands) did not want to buy different tools other than what Amada machines usually use.

You know how to make these? I think I just botched a refurb of a Intrepid II because I took it apart too much trying to make it light enough to lift. The fire box is now completely disassembled and I am searching the internet for how to properly seal it when putting it back together. Can the rope & cement gasket kits that are sold for the doors also be used to seal the firebox?? Or is something else entirely required? Any info would be appreciated!

@@spiggity8 So I just got the notification on this comment. I only knew how to do the sheet metal firebox and not the assembly process. I don’t work for that company anymore as they relocated and I didn’t go with them over six years ago.

@Will Swift So the exterior was cast and coated in an enamel paint. The interior was thin sheet metal (22 gauge at the thinnest, 18 or maybe 14 gauge at the thickest.) They made several models at the plant I worked at and we didn’t start doing them a lot until a few months before it was shut down and the product moved up north six years ago. There were a lot of safety implementations they made before the plant closed, and I’m not sure how they worked, as I was mostly in the sheet metal bending department. There was some kind of screen that became mandatory on the glass that allowed you to touch it for so long before you could feel any heat to get hurt. It was mostly for people with small children, but it became standard across all models.
