I measure and correct basic runout in two of my adapters. Other error factors such as linearity and taper angle can also affect the result. This is a brief overview. Camera: Nikon L820

Note: I was very surprised to see that Banggood have an extremely limited range of Morse taper sleeves and arbor tangs - unexpected for such popular items. So looks like no review will be possible. Cheers Rob

Hello Rob, Great video and you are completely true about the possibility of compounding error... and ways to minimize the errors... thank you... Take care. Paul,,

My pleasure Paul. I have always been very wary of using sleeves as there is a lot of potential for errors to occur if poorly made. Cheers Rob

Everything you stick in a spindle is subject to being wobbly. If you need to be accurate then you have to check every time. Thanks for the video Rob.

Got all my tapers with the old lathe, finding the same here, but had to have a new spindle made. They made a good job and most error far reduced. Thanks for this, and expecting more good stuff from you.

I have checked mine out Rob , And only one of the adapters I have is bad . The others are pretty good ! Great share ...ENJOYED

Hi Shawn, I visualised a stampede of viewers out to the workshop to check their adapters ;) At least you know which one not to use. It would be interesting to try and rescue it. Depends how hard the metal is. I've never corrected a sleeve, but I have done a Morse tang and it was so hard even carbide would barely look at it. I had to use a tool post grinder on it in the end and it came up 100% perfect. The tricky bit was gripping it because of the tapered faces. All doable. Cheers Rob

Well demonstrated Rob, exactly what is done in industry with ER collets for long and demanding setups (and that's with the quality gear). In my dim and distant past, we used to remove the tangs and replace with a cap screw to get the full 360 range for adjusting morse tapers, all ours at that time were pretty beat up though so it was a necessity. Cheers, Jon
@Xynudu3 жыл бұрын
Fixed tangs can be a restriction as you said Jon. It's interesting how tapers will even sit slightly differently, for several insertions in the same relative position. You could go paranoid over tapers :) Cheers Rob

Very interesting results, Rob. Definitely something to be aware of when using the reducing sleeves. The new-old-stock sleeves from quality brands are not expensive here in the States.

Hi Daniel, good to hear you can still get quality ones for reasonable money. One of mine came from CTC Tools but I can't remember which one. They ARE a handy item and you can see from the scuffed up faces that mine have done a lot of work, particularly sharing between several machines. I'm wondering how good (or bad) the Banggood ones are. Cheers Rob

Great video Rob 👍👍👍 Very interesting. I must confess that I've never checked my sleeves, I have a few that I use in the tailstock for small chucks. I'll add that to my to do list 🙂 Cheers, Alan.

I've never checked them before Alan, even though people say bad things about them. Always seemed to work OK for me and as it turned out the error factors are pretty small. Certainly nothing to be concerned about. Cheers Rob

I would be interested to hear how they clock up. I looked at reviewing some cheapies from Banggood, but they have very little available - surprising. Cheers Rob

Hi Rob, I just received my new Sumore 2129-II lathe this week. I am very pleased with the overall build quality and Sumore customer support. Thanks for sharing your experiences with these lathes. I would have never known about this brand of superior quality benchtop lathes.

Glad it worked out. I was considering importing a medium sized milling machine from them and wondered how total cost compares. I'm not expecting to save anything, just get a size I really want for reasonable money. They have a range of mid sized mills we don't get in Oz. Cheers Rob
@testyourdesign2333 жыл бұрын
@@Xynudu overall the cost savings were not as much as I expected but were still worth waiting 3 months. Be prepared as the cost of shipping and duties is at least as much as the machine cost if not more. I probably could have found a lesser quality machine for the similar price from a distributor in the states but it was definitely less expensive than a high-quality Precision Mathews or similar Grizzly lathe. I'd consider doing it again in the future given the excellent level of care and support that Sumore provided through the whole process.

Thanks very much for the follow up. I'm not surprised, as I looked into this several years back and the dock/landing fees in Australia were shocking. I will have to do some full on number crunching to be sure it's worth it. Enjoy your new machine. Cheers Rob

@@testyourdesign233 I could have helped you reduce your import/shipping cost from China. Companies making these do not specialise in shipping in cost effective way, it makes sense as they are in business of machines not shipping.
