The late singer Jeff Buckley's career was on a steep upward trajectory when he drowned in 1997 at the age of 30. Buckley had an amazing voice -- and he had musical genes. He was the son of Tim Buckley, the cult singer/songwriter of the early '70s who also died tragically young of an overdose at the age of 28. They are the subject of the new movie "Greetings From Tim Buckley," which stars former Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley in the role of Jeff Buckley. Badgley joins us to discuss the challenges of the role, and explain how music was his first passion.

Wow he really gets Jeff Buckley, the connection between his voice and the guitar. That describes it perfectly. Jeff's emotion comes not only from how he sings because there's a lot of great singers. But he was an amazing guitar player and his chords supplement what he's singing harmonically.

I think a film about Jeff should have James Franco playing him.

josh jaccard I thought the same thing. Franco would have nailed that role and I think he looks more like Jeff than Penn does. BUT! I do have to give credit, where credit is due. Penn did do a great job playing Jeff. Jeff was a very complex, metaphorical, deep, poetic, frail, socially awkward individual and I think Penn portrayed that in his performance.
