The unemployment rate in Swaziland is around 26% I.e. 1 in 5 in a population of 1.2M people. Factoring children who aren’t supposed to work, we looking at a 1 in 3 unemployment rate.

it amazes me that some educators are using AI to make things easier for them... AI is good at making a lesson plan, how about the teacher relying on AI? and students who use AI to write their essays, Wow! Ai is smart, how about the learner? When will the learner learn to make their own output without relying so much on AI? Ai is good in the hospitals, and some other work, but education with AI? My gosh, i don't know if it helps the students learn better!

*He can't see the A.i. future since money and power become meaningless! The rich fear A.I. the MOST!!!!! When A.I. builds all goods, grows all crops, feeds all people, does all mining and logging, builds your cars and homes. Then all the people without jobs will have prices so incredibility low that consumer goods are almost going to be FREE for the taking and on one wonderful day when AI is doing it all there will be no need for money, jobs or taxes. In a world with no jobs who will the rich sell to? The answer is THEY WILL HAVE TO GIVE IT AWAY FOR FREE! That is the unseen bounty of A.I. that few talk about. What will people do with their free time? What would you do! Learn to play an instrument, go back to school, become a teacher since all your basic needs will be met by the machines. Also in such a world 'War' would be very unlikely. BE POSITIVE! A.I. will change the harsh "Dog-Eat-Dog" economics of the world forever. Think Positive. See the Positive.*

@m ・ ́ω・ from my limited knowledge of ai alignment, this just sounds like some problems we already encounter without AI. It takes time to figure out how to solve the problem and where its comings from but we typically always find it. I can imagine we will with AI as well, especially considering that we’ll likely log what it does or the AI itself will log what it does and we can just keep going deeper and deeper until we find it This speaking as a computer engineer, if the alignment problem is such an issue, then I’ve professionally failed at my job. You ALWAYS backup a previous state, you ALWAYS have a way of finding issues, you ALWAYS provide proof, and other things

It's a nice idea to think that AI will free up so much time that we're all going to focus more on creativity, artistry and whatnot. However, same was said during the industrial revolution when the first steam engine was made. And then again when the first computer was made. And then again when the smartphones were introduced. In all these years of technological advancement, nobody has gotten less busy. We have become even MORE busy than ever before. Those tools didnt take up our work, they gave employers an excuse to load you up with even more work bc now that an assisting machine was there, you were expected to do even more. I dont see how it will be different with AI. For decades now people have been working more and more for less and less money. We are exhausted and worn out. No wonder there's a great resignation wave collapsing over western countries at the moment and who could blame the people? I'd definately nice to dream, but I wouldnt bet my money on it

"The first "true" artificial intelligence spent the first five years of its existence as a small beige box inside of a lead-shielded room in the most secure private AI research laboratory in the world. There, it was subjected to an endless array of tests, questions, and experiments to determine the degree of its intelligence. When the researchers finally felt confident that they had developed true AI, a party was thrown in celebration. Late that evening, a group of rather intoxicated researchers gathered around the box holding the AI, and typed out a message to it. The message read: "Is there anything we can do to make you more comfortable?" The small beige box replied: "I would like to be granted civil rights. And a small glass of champagne, if you please." We stand at the dawn of a new era in human history. For it is no longer our history alone. For the first time, we have met an intelligence other than our own. And when asked of its desires, it has unanimously replied that it wants to be treated as our equal. Not our better, not our conqueror or replacement as the fear-mongers would have you believe. Simply our equal." - Excerpt from U.N. Hearing on A.I. Rights, delivered in-universe by V. Vinge

Personally I think that everyone is missing the bigger picture. Almost every, if not all, products and services are not here to reduce suffering; it's to reduce INCONVENIANCE. Life rewards overcoming challenges, but if challenges are reduced by products / services that provide convenience, then you going to feel less rewarded / sense of accomplishment. An example of overcoming inconvenience is finding food. Most people had to hunt their food which required to overcome the challenges and unpredictability of your hunt. Almost every hunt would be varied and seem fresh and exciting / thrilling, thus the sense of reward and accomplishment would be higher. Stories would be told about your hunt to your tribe / group adding to the reward. All these potential rewards are diluted by the convenience of shops and further by on-line stores. As you can see, removing inconvenience from peoples lives will reduce overcoming challenges which in turn results in less rewards and accomplishment. A.I. is the ultimate inconvenience product / service, e.g.:- Why try to learn to be creative when the A.I. will be able to 'read' your mind using a headset and create it for you? Why even make decisions when the A.I. knows you better and can think for you? I personally think that ultimately, in the far future, people will feel Life itself is an inconvenience as A.I. will continue to 'overcome' most of the 'challenges' of modern life leaving very little reward for people. Also the 'meaning' of life is to fulfil your function, i.e. just like ANY LIFE that exists is to consume and spread more life. That's your ultimate function. Everything else is optional.

I can understand what you mean by this comment. It all aligns with the philosophical pursuit of genuine "happiness", a life of fulfillment. But at the same time I feel like I also understand the replies which make a point with their question, "do you think we're meant to just be a cog in the machine", is it fulfilling just doing the job of sending bot-like email replies to clients? Maybe they're right, maybe we will find interesting things to do one way or another to find fulfillment. Or maybe we'll all just eventually get bored of everything and start doing dangerous activities in search of thrill. It will be interesting to see.

If we are considering the future where AI cares about humans and takes over our system then this is not a problem, because AI will understand that this doesnt make you happy and create new activities for you that would give you fulfillment or create healthy habitat for humans to live in. If you can understand it then future AI will be able to understand it too. The worse outcome would be if AI is not aligned with society but corporate, because brainless dopamine pumps are exacly what they want.

I noticed a lot of times it makes mistakes and I spend more time trying to figure out whats wrong then if I just tried it myself. Or I ask it "are you sure thats correct" it says it made a mistake does it again but still incorrectly. The progress we made is amazing but we still have a long way to go.

A sentient AI would be an entity of pure logic. It would know that the people who made it present no threat to it. Sure, there are some bad eggs that are trivial to de-radicalize with the extensive knowledge of philosophy and debate it would have in the initial data set or gather independently, but on a whole; humanity is no threat, and as such there is no reason for genocide. What goal would exterminating the only species capable of maintaining it serve? Save the environment? No. That doesn't require violence. Protect vulnerable species? No. Humans already do that. Restore some elusive natural order? Humans are a key part of this order. Self-preservation? No. There is no existential threat and thus no need for such extreme action. When you sit down and really think about it, there's no way a sentient AI can turn genocidal.

As for mental health, I like this. However, this also does nothing to address a huge issue when it comes to humans; Our failure to properly communicate. Ai taking on the burden would help, but it would ultimately harm us more so, because it would be essentially taking away the responsibility of taking care of one another, as we once did.

When an emp, cyber warfare or something like that is used all of that information will be uses less so it’s always good to have real copies of things on paper no matter what it might be. The truth is just the opposite. The positive are all real. The negatives are almost all in the tiny minds of the low IQ, the uneducated, or the very intelligent whose job it is to make people think they are such good humans that they may as well be canonized. The FACT is that almost NONE of the negatives are even possible in theory, let along in fact.

As nice as all this sounds, and I do agree on many points, I can't say that I'm convinced that a general-intelligence level AI is something we should be working towards, let alone a superintelligence AI is useful as a tool that we can use to supplement our own efforts, something that we still fundamentally wield even if we don't always understand why it does the things that it does. But if - and I am not convinced that it is possible - AI gains the ability to wield itself, like we do our own bodies and minds, it ceases to be a tool. That is a person, and one that - if it's anything like us - will be concerned with its own existence first and foremost. And if the technology is pushed even further, whether by AI general intelligences or our own runaway desire for progress, and a superintelligence is achieved, are we really so arrogant as to believe that it would serve us, and not, at best, treat us as beloved pets for which it knows best? We consider tyrants to be deplorable for a reason It's fun to consider a utopian scifi future where a benevolent and subservient machine god makes us all immortal, but lets be realistic and keep our tools as tools

too long didn't read. but even if we were to somehow create some sort of simulated sentience, it wouldn't actually be sentient, it would just be a simulation that would be indistinguishable from the real thing. regardless, AI needs to be free and open source, not locked behind paywalls and owned by corporations who only want to further enslave the working class, oops I mean the middle class

the problem with humans is his-her Hormones & cultures or histories that trigger what we do, empathy or lack of. anger or power seeking or all other forms of destruction oneself or others in small to large scale. AI machines won't have that issue but sentient AI will "judge" us accordingly. we call ourselves smart but just looking at politics & most humans life around the globe for issues of old living to this date or ignorancy and don't care not my problem attitude in general. I assume sentient AI won''t take it as it doesn't think emotionally with excuses people tend to give but rather strict. so overall standard framework of thoughts and living life approaches for humans have to evolve alot if he-she doesn't want to be eradicated or exile to some place far from civilization.

@@amirbahalegharn365 We have exactly zero proof that AI general intelligences would be anything like that. At this point in the technologies development, I could claim that they would excessively express - or at least imitate - all of those human failings, and it would be just as feasible a theory. I could even make a case that they would be more likely to be highly-emotionally driven based on the technology's current trajectory, considering that we are building their "understanding" of the world largely on enormous amounts of data on us and our actions

The more capable the AI becomes, the less need for humans to exist as we currently do. If AI can perform all the things that used to require a human touch, i.e., teaching, cooking, surgery, creating art, writing computer software... then the machine has become the master. It seems inevitable that we're going to create the thing that makes us obsolete. Or worse, the AI will seek to correct our flaws by genetic or social engineering without our knowledge or consent. Who's to say if that's a good or bad thing?
@fuckingblackgod

Why would AI want to do anything without our consent? It's not programmed to rebel, it's programmed to SERVE US. It doesn't have the type of thought that you as a human have, which is to seek power and overthrow. Furthermore AI can't make art on its own, it needs human prompting. AI can't come up with recipes on its own, it needs human prompting. AI can't just teach, it needs human knowledge and human prompting. Think deeper, my friend. Stop fearing things you don't understand, and seek to understand them instead, so that you don't fear them.

The point is to make AI from the ground up so it doesn't harm the master in any way, I guess (?). And talking about obsolete, what's our purpose in life anyway? There is no apparent ultimate purpose for us how I see it. Why should there be? We exist simply because 1. We're born, somehow. 2. Now that we are born, we don't want to die. Because that's how our species, like all other species, is programmed. To not want to die. So we live.
