AFAIK behind the scenes, another reason for her 'descent into madness' so to speak was essentially due to her stay in Australia, and sadly in not in the meme sense: a combination of homesickness, difficulty in adjusting to a foreign country, her not quite rosy school experience, and borderline neglect by her relatives there meant she wasn't in the best state of mind at the time, leading her to make more unhinged content as the time passed. It's telling that she mostly recomposed herself once she returned to Japan, though she obviously kept up the momentum of her Haachama content for a while longer.

One thing I think Haachama doesn't notice is that she revolutionized the entire Vtuber industry in the field of storytelling After Coexist Arc, hololive, Nijisanji, Vshojo, and many other smaller corpos and indies started to invest more in lore development and presentation

Personally I don't see lore being important or part of a showcase anymore. Nearly all the recent big or growing fast Vtubers (non major company) don't care about any lore or staying in super character and it's been working out really well for them

@@MaxC_1 i think a major strength of vtubing compared to other types of streamers is the character that they can play as. look at suisei's latest transformation. think dr. disrespect but cute anime waifus.

@@williamadiputra2850 yep that is surely true. But in general lore barely plays a role in that. I mean for example in the EN sphere majority of the Big Vtubers with their whole Lore showcases treat lore as only an excuse often or just something as backstory. It is there but you only see glimpses of it for the theatrical effect. On the other hand however if a Vtuber actually wants to stay devoted to a character? yea the models and lore does allow them to fully create a whole world around it but thing is for most Vtubers it's not sustainable in the long term

Haachama was a way to let out her creative and wild side. Which in part of course was turned to 11 to test the limits, but also was a way to cope with her being stuck in australia where she didnt have a good time. Now she is clearly a mix of the two, but there is a reason she stuck mostly with Haachama and didnt go back to bein Haato. It leaves her more room for things and also seem to be closer to her confort zone as a performer.

I mean, she was one of the first Hololive girls to speak English during her streams. I like the idea that she’s sort of the Hololive En Gen 0 member. At least before Coco joined lol

I did end up liking how close the two seemingly got. I think Coco might have realized how hard Haachama works, and that is why she passed on the official meme review to her when she graduated

Fun fact about Coco, Coco actually watched Haachama before she became part of hololive. Haachama was Coco's oshi.

@@zer0stars I remember her saying that watching Haachama gave her the courage to try out for Hololive. You do get a surface level view when you watch someone. She got so much closer after she joined, which is why she handed off meme review to her

Lovely video Ven! I never thought that Coco may have occupied Haato's niche when it came to english speaking VTubers in Hololive. In retrospective, it makes a lot of sense that she would want t shift niches after that! Glad Haato and Coco were able to become such great friends till the end!

I was introduced to Hololive through Miko's GTAV clip and Hatto to doing rap God. Haachama very quickly became my oshi and now my friends are scared for me

I have always really hated feet so when i first got into Hololive mid 2020, i made it a mission to see as many clips as i could to learn who everyone was. The one that took the longest for me to warm up to was Haachama because all the clips i could find of her were feet related and kinda feared her. I eventually became a big fan of her after Holo Fes stage 2 and loved the horror and cooking streams

I'm very lightly into vtubers and Haachama is for sure one of the most unique that i've watched. Very creative and out of the box ideas. I love her for it.

Crazy to remember how I was actually there when some of those streams were done live and especially the R34 stream I couldn't not tune in just to see if she was serious or not as it was a truly unheard-of territory as far as a Hololive stream is concerned.

Love the video and the comprehensive overlook of the base storyline But there's something that has been overlooked by many people and it is my absolute favorite part about haachama and a big reason why i love her and that is the actual theme of her character which foreshadows her turn from the very start whether she had planned the whole thing or she made it work as she went along isnt clear but its respectable either way So hear me out her name means red heart which is the suite of the queen of hearts from alice in wonderland and in many older iterations of the queen her tendency to want to behead people is a literal sickness and i was certain of the theory akai was the red queen once she went so mad she beheaded herself And her current outfit and whole setup very heavily match the dark wonderland theme Most vtubers make some kind of base theme or lore and never actually expand upon it but haachama leaned into hers And again whether that was the plan or it came from her real life struggles she made it into her identity and her success and i love her for it haachama chama forever

Yeah it's hard to tell based on her lore if Haachama is a split personality or a completely separate character.

I saw a series of videos overviewing the entire saga a year ago (can’t remember any titles or names, sorry) and IIRC the implication in her final stretch of short edited uploads was SPOILER(?) She’s a twin with survivors guilt. Her sister died when they were young (car crash I think?) and the split personality is a way to bring her ‘back to life’ as it were. I say “she” cuz I don’t actually remember which was which, i.e. if the survivor was Haato who suddenly went schizo, or was always actually the unhinged one who’d been roleplaying the REAL (long-dead) Akai Haato for years before having a relapse.

as far as I know, The nickname "Haachama" first originally appeared in an English collab game with the other JP members, coincidentally Marine coining it first. The situation is Haato was the host of the game and Coco was the co-host. What happened was the host, Haato, who made all of the questions and translations for the game, made some errors. Coco, who was more proficient with english, noticed this and corrected her about it (multiple times). These turn of events made the other JP members (jokingly) question Haato's validity as the host. Now, this is where the origin of Haachama comes in, when Coco corrects Haato's translations, Marine, would shout "HAACHAMA?" in a bewildered tone, prompting the chat to type "Haachama?" everytime this happens. Moving forward, this stuck out in her other streams as when she does something questionable or weird, Haatons would respond "Haachama?" in the chat.

As for "Haachama chama" I remember her one Karaoke where she sang Snow Halation, and after that chat requested her to say "Nico nico nii~" but she then responded with "Haachama-chama~"

I always thought the Haachama thing started in earnest because all of Gen1 got new outfits and she went HARD with it. Do you know anything about when she debuted it and how/if it tied into the timeline of events? I was waiting for even a date to come up and don’t think it did. Granted I had this vid playing as background noise.
