How An Anonymous Engineer Made Sense of Voyager 1's Gibberish Signals from Interstellar Space. That’s right! Voyager 1 has broken its silence thanks to an engineer working at the Deep Space Network.
The anonymous engineer examined the code and was able to decode the unusual signal. They discovered that the signal contained a complete readout of the FDS' memory. The FDS memory contains encoded performance instructions and code values that can be altered either by changes in the spacecraft's status or by command.
Additionally, scientific and engineering data intended for transmission back to Earth is stored in this memory. To investigate the recent signal anomaly, prompted by a command from mission control, the team will compare this new signal with data sent to Earth just before Voyager 1 began transmitting garbled binary code.
Any discrepancies found between the regular Voyager 1 data and this signal prompted by the command will help the team pinpoint the source of the issue.

I was a computer and software engineer back in the 60's and 70's and it amazes me that either of these space craft is functioning at all. Big KUDO's for the NASA guys that originally conceived and then built these 2 units. Hats Off...

I was a new father when the Voyagers launched. Now I'm a great-grandfather. Amazing that we can still communicate with them at all.

Reminds me of watching the moon landing with my grandma. She was born in 1900 in rural Nova Scotia. And watching the first episode of star trek with my older brother. I had so many questions and he patiently answered them all until the inevitable "shut up and just listen yourself!"

Voyager 2 has always been my favorite for some silly reason. Underdog, I guess... I remember when they launched and couldn't imagine that they'd still be around much less, useful! I getting close to being in about the same shape as V1! ;-)

Voyager 1 has a golden record on board. It's other mission is to have someone find it and retrieve the record

No doubt that the Voyager missions are by far the most successful that mankind has ever launched.Let us hope that if they ever encounter intelligent aliens, that these are friendly and possible benefactors.

whilst i hope thats true, i very much doubt anything thats emerged and evolved independent of our galaxy is going to have our understanding of fair play.... hell, we as a species cant even do that to each other on the same planet..... i remember the quote, ".....Either we are alone in the universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying."

Some fool put a map to Earth on the Voyager. The Borg are ecstatic to get their hands on THAT piece of gold. Resistance is futile.

I'm pretty sure that evil aliens hardly need the Voyagers for directions to Earth! Alien husband - It's around here somewhere. Alien wife - You're lost!!! Alien husband - No I'm not!!! Alien wife - Yes you are! Look! there's a satellite! Pull over and ask for directions! Alien husband - Yes dear...

The V'gers (and the Pioneers and New Horizons) nowhere near "interstellar" space. The are not even close to the inner Oort cloud. They have to exit the Sun's gravity well to be truly "interstellar".

hmm, perhaps its core dumping ? bad if its repeating though

It would be good to read or hear a more detailed version of this video that hasn't been so simplified and discussed why that's happening. It might be core dumping because it was asked to, or because a certain fault occurred. Repeats might be intentional so the whole image could be reliably retrieved. Here's NASA's announcement though it really has only the same information, no additional details. blogs.nasa.gov/sunspot/2024/03/13/nasa-engineers-make-progress-toward-understanding-voyager-1-issue/

Eventually we will lose contact with both spacecraft but when we do the mission continues on ! Maybe found millions of years from now ! Hopefully nasa keeps the dashboard tho ! I like seeing speed and odometer readings ! Cheers ! 🍺🍺🍺

Amiable and high-intelligence extraterrestrial aliens fixed Voyager 1 by reprogramming, reactivating the aging system and redirecting the position of its radar dish toward Earth. 👍🤣👍

Maybe they create a type of signal receiver & booster-transmitter. Hitching a ride on a future launch. Getting just a bit closer, this shortening Voyager 1's ever increasing distance.
