@chaplainmattsanders4884 HI! I got it from watching Matt Fradd interview James McCann on Matt's excellent podcast Pints With Aquinas...his direct quote was , "we want to be called to Repentance, we want to be invited to a Larger Story." It explains it perfectly:) Check out the podcast but don't start with that interview as it's a little salty😂

Welcome to the Church. As a cradle Catholic my understanding and appreciation of the Church is greatly enriched by our Converts. There are so many treasures in the Church that we either take for granted or don't really look at in depth because we have always had them. As these people come into the faith they help us by seeing these things with fresh eyes and lead us to examine our own faith and understanding in a deeper way.

My non catholic husband (baptised an Anglican) regularly attended Mass as a family, with me & our 5 children. After 11 years he told me one afternoon that he MUST become a catholic. I told him "I hope you're not doing this for me"... he said no... on his way to work that morning, driving into the lovely sunrise, God told him he needed to take that step. He couldn't wait for the following Easter in 6 months, so had a number of sessions with our Priest, & was confirmed a Catholic 4 months later. He has been a loyal 'mick' ever since, & a Minister of the Eucharist for many years. Married 46 years, 10 beautiful grandchildren. Father God is GOOD. Jesus Christ is our Lord & Saviour and Great Physician in many of life's circumstances; & His Mother Mary is also our gentle & loving Mother. What a church to grow up in😊. Even with the attacks by satan within our church at high levels, we know it will survive and come out washed white as snow because 'the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.'

I remember that, too. There were 5 Mass times to choose from at every parish, and you had to go to the parish you lived in, couldn't go to Grandma and Grandpa's parish for Mass if they lived in a different parish, even if the priests knew you, because every Mass was packed. I was a skinny little kid, and the thing I hated most about going to Mass was that I was squeezed into the pew 😂 I was scrunched right up! Another thing I remember is that people would step into the aisle for Communion at different times, whenever they believed they were prepared to receive worthily, and sometimes it meant they stayed in the pew the whole time. People going up to receive Communion didn't know who stayed in the pew because nobody went at the same time. Not like today where there are ushers instructing the whole row of pews to line up all at the same time. One time, I had been traveling, and hadn't had a chance to go to Confession. I discerned that I had to go to Confession before I could receive, so I remained in my pew and bowed my head in prayer. In the church I was in, there were short pews off to the side, and I had purposely chosen one of those because if there was even one person sitting there, nobody else would. That was I wouldn't have to stand up to let someone through either going or coming. I was praying in remorse, when suddenly I was rudely and firmly tapped on the shoulder. I looked up to see the usher emphatically indicating that I should get in line. What a difference from the old days!

It was mentioned part of the reason for rejecting the deuterocanonical books was the language they were in - that they were only in Greek. That was a reason given by the 4 centuries post Christ Masoteric Jews, and the Reformers. But then along comes the Dead Sea scrolls, and parts of those books were found in Hebrew and Aramaic dating back to the time of Jesus. Turns out the Catholic Church was right all along.

@@rexweller3759Silly rabbit. There is the VATT, or Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope. Certainly doesn’t spell Lucifer. It was put there over 50 years ago. Since it’s a great place for telescopes, in 2002 a consortium of scientific institutes, which does not include the Vatican, installed the LBT. Full name? Large Binocular Telescope Near Infra Res Spectroscopic Utility with Camera and Integral Field Unit for Extra Galactic Research . If you leave out a whole bunch of words in the name you COULD use Lucifer, but that’s only funny because it would be sitting right next to the Vatican VATT E for effort though.

@@rexweller3759 you’re funny. A little research would have been helpful before you made such a silly and absolutely incorrect comment. But since facts and research don’t seem to be a very common practice anymore, I’ll help you. The Vatican telescope in Tucson is called VATT, or Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope. It was installed there about 40 years ago. Native born Arizonan here, we took field trips in grade school to see it. In 2012, a consortium of scientific institutions from around the world, NOT including the Vatican, installed a facility on the same mountain called the LBT, or Large Binocular Telescope. Its full name is “Large Binocular near-infrared Spectroscopic Utility With Camera and Integral Field Unit for Extra-Galactic Research”. Which would be abbreviated LBTNISUWCIFUER. You have to drop a LOT of words out of that secular scientific consortium’s facility name to make it to LUCIFER, but even if it actually worked out to make that acronym, that facility still does not belong to the Catholic Church.

I’m a cradle Catholic,who got sucked into American pop culture religion,had a metanoia in 2009 which lasted for about 2 years maybe, then went back to pop culture religion in 2013 then repented again in March 2019 and decided to go into Protestantism which lasted about 2 yrs and came back home in October of 2021. In the 2 yrs of Protestantism I churched hopped the entire time and everything seemed way out of what Jesus Christ taught. But God was showing me how he works even in Protestantism to bring his back home and how the Catholic Church is where he truly is,in the Eucharist. Protestantism for me was an emotional rollercoaster,always wanting Gods presence to be felt which is a good thing but I never knew how the demons manipulate our emotions as well. There wasn’t any confessionals or Eucharist and the welsh grape fruit cups with a cracker wasn’t cutting it for me. Things are in order now for me and my spiritual life has grown so much since that there is no way I’m ever looking back despite the scandals and drama unfolding. There has always been scandals in Gods church,Judas caused the biggest scandal in church history. Jesus Christ showed us that there will always be scandals in the church but the gates of hell shall never prevail against her. Amen

My father was of Scottish protestant heritage living in NZ with an older and younger sister. They moved for a time to Sydney and in 1929 as an 11 yr old, he got polio and could not move his legs and was confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Back in Auckland, he worked for a radio station 1ZB, where he met my mother of strong Irish catholic heritage. They fell in love but she insisted he become catholic to marry her. He did so, I don’t know how long it took, but God rewarded him with a girl, 2 boys, 3 girls & 2 boys, so even though I would think it quite unfair for a child to become a paraplegic at 11, that was God’s plan for him, and without that plan, I and my 7 siblings would not exist. Thank you God.

I enjoy reading and hearing about Protestant's journeys into the RCC. My niece is one such person. I'm 66, and I was born into evangelical Protestantism. Late in life I had my fill of it, not just the obligatory "DIY church of me", but the drift towards feminized Christology and posturing clergy, and progressivism, especially amongst the leadership (case in point, the Southern Baptist Convention). I walked away, was received into the Eastern Orthodox Church ☦️ (Antiochian parish), and never looked back.

I converted to Catholicism April 1972, two weeks before I got married. I was an Anglican, but didn't want any tension over religion if we had children. There wasn't much difference to me. Kneeling for communion, same creed, believed in Holy Trinity, only difference was confession & it also made me realize that communion was his body & blood. Such a rich religion, my family didn't give me any tension for my converion. I was very fortunate for having a very open minded family, no prejudices against religion or races.

The whole "I am the Light of the World" thing takes place during the feast of Dedication also known as Hanukkah which appears in Maccabees. So, arguably Jesus celebrated Hanukkah and used the symbolism to refer to what He was doing. Ergo, Jesus and first century Judaism at the least believed in the events in Maccabees.

It seems to me in John 6:68 when Peter says "Lord, to whom shall we go?", that perhaps if there had been another option (if John the Baptist were still alive for example), that perhaps Jesus might have lost the Apostles. I'd never noticed that in John 7:1, which immediately follows this incident, that Jesus was in danger of being killed. Thanks to Bryan for pointing this out.

But Peter also said, immediately following, "THOU hast the words of eternal life." Jesus would not have lost His Apostles, fir they already knew St. John the Baptist was *not* the Messiah, the "One who was to come."
@Davcramer
@Davcramer 4 ай бұрын
@@fairyspunfibers9098 Jesus lost nearly everyone. It's true that Peter said Jesus had the words of eternal life. He also denied Jesus three times. The Apostles didn't understand everything Jesus said, not even parables that seem pretty clear to us. They didn't understand what Jesus meant by eating his flesh and drinking his blood, they may not have even understood them at the Last Supper. The resurrection clarified a lot of things for them, things made more sense in hindsight. As john says, "he saw, and believed." (John 20:8). The Apostles were so invested in Jesus' ministry that they couldn't break free. But that doesn't mean they had a clue about what was really going on.

I left my faith for a very long time and since I’ve come back my life is clear and the desire to be thankful has intensified. My friends are Christian evangelicals. They are out of their minds over me going back to my catholic faith. They truly believe my faith is a cult which is absurd and the way they disrespect Mary the mother of Christ is pretty much unacceptable.

I converted from Anglicanism two years ago. Great interview! Thanks especially for airing the fascinating topic of the apocryphal/deuterocanonical books. I didn't know they continued to be printed in Protestant Bibles until the 1700 or 1800s, but it makes sense because they were in both the Lutheran and Anglican lectionaries for centuries. In fact, if you get the traditional Anglican Book of Common Prayer from the ACNA (Anglican Church in North America), which they use for their worship, you can see the dates in the church year that parts of the so-called apocryphal books are to be read. You would not know this history from modern Protestant Bibles. Even the ESV, far superior to the blatantly anti-Catholic NIV, fails to acknowledge in its huge Study Bible that in the very famous Romans 1:19-23 passage (about how God's eternal power and deity have always been made known to man in the things that have been made), Paul is unmistakeably summarising the first half of Wisdom 13 (especially verses 13:1 and 13:5-9). If he was quoting an ancient Greek philosopher, you could be sure the ESV would cite it, but it's pretends the book of Wisdom does not even exist. A notable Protestant exception to this is Michael Heiser, who specialises in Second Temple literature and is very familiar with the deuterocanonicals as well as books that never quite made it into any canon, such as the Book of Enoch.

@@tony1685 Well, the Catholic Church created the canon of all 73 books of the Bible in the 4th Century. Martin Luther removed 7 books because they didn't fit with HIS idea of "faith alone" that he came up with in the 1500s. If you are truly interested in the TRUTH of Christianity - not just hearsay from other Protestants, or what you've learned from poorly taught Catholics who don't practice their faith, you need to go back and look at how the very first Christians lived the ones who were taught by the apostles. Like St. Irenaeus, St. Ignatius, St. Justin Martyr - to name just a few. The church of the early Christians was the Catholic Church. They all believed in the Eucharist as the Body and Blood of Christ, Apostolic succession, celebrating the Mass as a REpresented sacrifice of Jesus death on Calvary - AND they used both the Old Testament and New Testament to show where God was pointing to His creation of the Church from the beginning of existence. The same Catholic Church that existed back then is the same one that is today. "To be deep in history is to cease to be Protestant." - John Henry Cardinal Newman. I highly suggest listening to Day 100 of the Bible in a Year podcast, if you are serious about your love for Jesus. You can choose from there where to go

I also was in the United Methodist church and saw where they were headed. The doctrinal divide was getting wider and I hated being part of a church that couldn’t decide on what they believed. That began my move to the Catholic Church. Btw the parts of the UMC that were against same sex marriages were the African bishops. Good on them for standing up.

Although it was Vatican II and the failure of the Catholic schools to provide a classical Catholic education including failure to teach the Baltimore catechism, the history of the Church, Catholic moral teaching, Latin, classical literature, philosophy etcetera that caused Catholics to be ignorant of their faith. I know because I was one of them and a had a burning desire to know my faith -- I only began to learn once the internet became available and I watched priest theologians on EWTN provide teaching on basics I should have learned in Catholic school.

I am a cradle Catholic, I was a luke warm Catholic as a teen as I had sone judgy nuns in Catholic school who didnt approve of poor people and we were so poor. Dad was custodian and boiler man for the school and church. Hecwas paid minimum wages the whole time fir a fourty hour work week. He actually worked way more hours he never complained, his kids got free tuition , 4 of us 14 were left. Sometimes he was there all night with that troublesome boiler. My brothers hand dug graves. And when he retired I had 2 years left and the church decided to let me go fir free. You know the head nun never let me firget it, I never even knew this, but she made me stay after and wash chalk boards every night after the bell! I never hadvtime to use the restroom or I would miss my bus and if I didnt meet her standards I hadvto do it all over again! I had an hour bus ride home. Never got to be a safety guard which ment I never got to attend a picknick sponsered by JR Ranch with horseback riding and such- No that went to a wealthy girl and boy. I felt always on the outside looking in. I never completely lost faith, a faith my ancesters left Germany to keep. After I married I found tge church I attended so welcoming! I got involved, we bought a house andvhadvto change churches and a very wise older lady took me under her wing. I no longer keep quiet or appologize for being catholic. These podcasts fill mecwith happiness and hope. I go outvof my way at my church to b welcome those who dont feel welcome and I host coffee on Sunday mornings! I wncouragevyoung families to come if they have no money to donate I tell them no problem because I usually bring the treats, you are always welcome!

So sorry you had a bad experience with the nuns. In my experience, some were bitter women which made them mean - I suspect unhappy, possibly made to join the convent for financial reasons too - the lot of many women over time. I forgave all the mean ones, as our family was greatly blessed by the nuns in our town. My mother had a serious stroke when I was 13, attending a convent girl's school with two older sisters, while 4 of my 5 younger sisters were at the attached primary school. Mum was away in a city hospital for months, and the nuns arranged a family table for us, to share a hot lunch each school day, with the boarders, i think it was for a whole school year. We were well fed, more food than at home, and it must have been a great relief to hard working dad, to know evening meal was less important to fuss over. Another example of being in a Catholic Church community. ❤
